HankMarvin Posted 16 August Posted 16 August (edited) Pearson drew his first away game 0-0 but he did win 7 of the next 10 so time will tell and that was with a club that had been round the bottom of the championship the previous 3 seasons Edited 16 August by HankMarvin

Everyone that has imitated him with playing possession football doesnt have the IQ or adaptability that he has and it has resulted in very very bad knock offs. Its just possession for possession sake and hoping it translates. Pep has adapted over the years very subtly but many of his admirers and imitators havent caught up or dont have the IQ to adapt as he has. Enzo i feel might be the closest and these next 6 months will either prove or disprove that. Pep’s Man City have been absolutely terrible to watch during large periods too. It’s a complete myth to suggest they are/were anything like the Barca or Spain teams of the past. Very few teams play an attractive style of football because over the course of a season it is unsustainable due to the number of games players face now. You either have to slow the game down with passes between your defenders and call it a ‘possession based game’, or make it ugly and call it the ‘dark arts’ with some prat on the sidelines taking credit as a set piece coach.
sm1 Posted 16 August Posted 16 August Systems aren't superior or inferior, it's the players that are trying to play them. Man City spent over Billion £s getting players that can play Pep's way. Can we do that, obviously not. Sadly for managers like Russell, their brain cannot process what their eyes are seeing. That's why he thinks guys like McCarthy, Okoli, Luke, Soutter, Skipp, Bobby, etc can play his way, its just a matter of time, when all evidence shows they can't. The money's not there and neither are the players, but Russell is delusional and won't face upto this reality. It's very sad watching KP destroy our club. 1

Thus far in the short period of time he's been here he's done very little wrong, and certainly not enough wrong to warrant the reaction of some of our brain-deads. Is everybody that disagrees with you brain dead? Because I think that repeating previous errors and expecting different results and appointing a manager that has failed comically badly, twice in his last two jobs is pretty brain dead. It is perfectly reasonable to despair of Martin's brand of sideways walking football. Personally, I can't stomach it. Edited 16 August by murphy

I think what’s been frustrating at this club for quite some time, is that we simply would do better playing a basic style of football. the tactics don’t make us better they have made us worse for a long while now. Enzo did incredibly well but theres even an argument that with the players on hand at that time …. Any old basic system would have also been too good for the league. I want evidence that a manager is actually making us better and not just working on a vanity project. Maybe this comes with Martin but I’m not yet convinced he will have players improving… if we had a big Sam I just don’t think we’d do any worse than we will trying to play this way. The fine margins it creates work when you’re the much higher quality teams.. that is true. But in yesterday’s showing “… we simply aren’t that much stronger than a team like notts county and this style will just lead to mistakes. The extra 2/3 chances breaking the press create don’t make up for the 2/3 glaring chances we are conceding by trying it Edited 16 August by Lambert09

Clogger_ Posted 16 August Posted 16 August Of course it's too early to judge Martin on results He is however NOT some unknown entity. It's OK to look at his character and track record and come to conclusions about the likelihood of him being successful with us My thoughts haven't changed. He's a bell. Of course there's a chance he could be successful, but he would have been nowhere near my personal shortlist for the job 1

I've stated that it's brain dead to be writing a manager and whole season off and to be booing players after our first league game of the season just because we didn't win it and win it convincingly, which I fully stand by.

If this was the start of a Premier League and even a Championship season you’d have a point but its the start of a League One season and we yet again just watched the team churn out a result and performance that landed us in this mess. 0% progression 100% regression. We dont have the luxury to be able to play 800 passes, have 70ish% possession but only make one or two meaningful chances. We need to get out of this situation fast and playing the same way that got us here in the first place isnt helping and it needs calling out. The time for patience and niceties is over, the future of the club hangs in the balance. 2

The only thing we as fans can do is stop being so passive to whats going on in the board room and on the pitch. They need to be held to standards and if they slip they should know about it and be held to account. The lack of accountability is one of the reasons the club is in the mess its in, fans have been too passive and in many cases have been more passionate (or even violent) in silencing what they see as dissenters. The bare minimum that should be happening is that Top and Rudkin are made to feel very unwelcome in the stadium on match days. Instead you still get fans now trying to touch Top like hes some sort of prophet. Edited 16 August by Dames 3

So he's done 1 bad job out of the 4 he's had. McCinnes who was lauded at Hearts is now enduring the same kind of frustrations thus far as Martin was. Ask Southampton fans if they think he was a success there. I think they would laugh in your face. 1

Please prove me wrong. Lowest position… after one game! After the next game we could move up and start the positive journey. I don’t disagree on the drop, the finances and the mismanagement of the club. But we have got rid of some of the deadwood, and high earners, brought in very capable players for the division (with a few more needed) and a appointed a manager that needs to be given time. We needn’t be so emotional after two fixtures where we’ve won and drew, regardless of the opponents. Any way, let’s support Russ and the team, and with more time, the results come in. Hate this with an absolute passion. We won multiple trophies and went on multiple european tours without KP. Without Nigel Pearson, Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh we definitely don't win any trophies or go on any european tour, yet they're overlooked like KP were investing Sheik Mansour levels of money. I'm sure KP had their involvement but our title winning squad cost 22m, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that any other owner in english football could have contributed that level of finance. KP if we're being honest had a negligible involvement in our trophy haul over the 'golden age'. Could it be argued that any involvement no matter how big or small couldn't be changed to create the perfect storm for our success? Perhaps. But KP should be absolutely nowhere near front and centre for the cause of our success. Any decent ownership doesn't have the club at the highest peak to their lowest trough in 10 years 1

Directing the irritation to those above i.e Rudkin and Top, absolutely on board with that as they've ****ed us over repeatedly for years. Directing it at someone who's been in charge for 2 competitive games and not lost, nah.

Were you this way inclined when Ranieri took charge after losing his job at Greece upon losing to Faroe Islands, or did you perhaps put aside your hesitancy and give him a chance? Not comparing the 2 in a managerial sense, but you can't always judge someone on their previous job, especially their most recent one. 1
