I don't think Barnsley would drop that on a guy with no senior appearances. They last spent any money on player in 24/25 and that was about 200k!

Different skillsets.

 

Find local/regional kids that have potential where maybe 1 in 25 make it vs here’s £4m, find some gems globally

You look at someone like Coulibaly though and he would be a 3rd rate talent if he came from our academy. Someone who should be making his trade in league two or national league. Even Silko was better.

 

Yet we spent £3mil on him when he had one year on his contract.

 

Tommy Neale, who is probably our 4th best midfield talent behind Braybrooke, Page and Briggs outshone our £20mil midfield signing today.

 

The recruitment at this club is just atrocious at the moment.

It’s bad but it gets better with no Rudkin and Glover moved on. Promoting academy scouts doesn’t solve anything as we have structural issues that run deeper.

 

You can have great scouts and analysts but if the executive power lies with a DoF that has a manager or agent in his ear, the recruitment team is ignored.

 

I’ve no doubt the analysts would have vetoed BDCR, Ayew, Skipp but they don’t rule the roost.
