We have a good setup but we are fairly average at pushing them into the first team. The treatment of Monga and Page last season will attest to this. 

Monga wasn’t treated badly at all. You can’t play a 16 year old every game, part of the pathway is protecting them a little bit. 
 

Page is going to be a beast this season.

People see the likes of Yamal and Rooney and think every young player should be playing regularly at 16.

Mad thing about this year is that we probably have a huge number of players that we would expect to loan to either league on or championship teams. Obviously a bit of experience is helpful in the camp, especially for maintaining standard and keeping calm during tough periods (or in theory it should be)

 

In terms of ability though. I wouldn't be surprised if we could name an academy graduate 11 that would be competitive at the top end of this league.

Mavididi wasn’t exactly pulling up sticks.

 

Also Nelson is another example. Jifuentes didn’t play him despite Okoli treating the ball like a bomb

potentially going off at any minute. 
 

They play elsewhere, or at least loaned out so they can.

It’s just a work around I guess for those who are considered huge prospects.  Big clubs will always find a way around the rules

Disagree. They were both given there chances. At the end of the day they were 16/17 and have a lot of learn and we where in a desperate situation. Not time to make mistakes.

 

The failure is in our senior players not doing enough, not managing our youth - particularly until King/Rowett who didn't really use youth at all.

I do think we are at risk of losing a generation of talent do larger clubs like Manchester City.
