Over the last 10 years we are £87m in the red with transfer fees, The big issues are obviously wages and allowing Tielemans, Söyüncü & Perez leave without a fee who all generated fees on their next moves 

Also the £42m spelt just on transfer fees for Ghezzal, Benkovic & Danny Ward plus a years wages for Davide Lorenzo in the 18/19 window

Mahrez at 60m and Kante at 30m (granted the latter was a release clause) is still a disgrace. Both players were worth much more.

Losses are far higher overall but £87m is the loss in just transfer trading over that time period using figures published online

The two biggest silent killers that offset this are the number of players we paid money for and then lost on a free and the somewhat related figure of how high our rolling ratio of wage bill vs revenue has been over that ten year period. 

 

We make big, splashy sales, occasionally sometimes for huge profit (Fofana and Maguire are eye catching) but the bucket we put that cash in to is absolutely full of holes so most of it trickles back out before we get to spend it. 

 

Then, to continue that metaphor, the deals we do with Macquarie are like buying a load of extra water to throw in to our bucket to top it off but paying for it with metal from the bucket so the holes just get bigger and bigger. 

 

What you end up with is a situation like the last two windows where even if we make money selling, we still can't spend anything because the bottom of the bucket is now pretty much one big hole and anything we put in falls straight through.

Totally misread this bit as 'paying for it with a metal bucket'. Thought what an earth are you on about . 

 

Though, to be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody sold Top and Rudkin a metal bucket for all that loan money and they thought it was a great deal.

I vaguely remember that now - tbh thought it was a foxestalk myth. 

Probably not worth including a years wages for him as hopefully on the back of being a waiter we paid him accordingly.. oh wait rudders at the wheel, prob got £20k a week.
