Thats what happens when all that possession is in your own half to briefly cross the hallway line on the left flank to then be back in your own half on the right.

 

I'm really looking forward to our home games this season .....i am finding it really hard to encourage my kids to keep going. And they love football. My 14 year old as laterally said tonight,  do i have to go to the home games this season, can i not watch it on tv? I asked why, he said its so boring. We have to drive 1hr 30 to leicester for every home game, i think the reward for effort is wearing thin. It cant be just my kids that are struggling.?

It’s clear our best players were the academy guys (apart from Thomas) and our young academy players have been snapped up. Does this not suggest we have better coaches and maybe even a manager somewhere in the academy set up. Over recent years everyone we have signed has regressed under our senior coaching/management. Maybe we should have looked in house at the academy team?

Not sure we had any real control, we scored against the run of play and the pattern of play stayed that way until they scored. At which point they then weirdly decided to back off and forget they were the more dangerous team.

Sounds like your lad is the sensible one to be fair haha.

I know .... but leicester is our team, and i have tried my hardest to not let them stray to the liverpool, man city, and whover is doing well, kids at their school.  They go to every home game (season tickets) but for kids more than adaults the last 2 seasons have hit them hard.  

I nearly did not renew this year, because they were morally low, and the effort and cost was probably not worth the battle.

BUT its the hope that kills you, and i almost promised them a great season, to get them back onside. ..... we have great players for L1, we will be favourites.....we have the biggest stadium in the division......we should win a good percentage of games.....we will be back in the championship next season lads!! 

My 10 year old cried when fatawu left, and said whos going to score our goals now!

Watching that looked like a pre season friendly, we never got out of second gear , we don’t move the ball quick enough, I know it’s the first game but we really have to step it up next week , Martin needs to get the fans on board quickly as he will soon be gone

One of the coaches has just been poached by Forest .

Agreed! Issue is this is Russell Martin’s style of play. Result is never the main outcome. Possession means more. We will give 2-3 chances per game playing out. This will not improve, it is his style. Let alone we don’t have the players to do what he wants. He will play always play this way regardless. 
I think the slow possession style restricts second gears. He will be like Brendan and Enzo, plan B will be to do plan A better. 
It is completely the wrong appointment but that is what Rudkin and Top have done for years. Poor decisions.

last time in league one Pearson built a team capable to win the league, experienced players, and people who will battle (Steve Howard, Hobbs, Oakley, Brown etc) Russell’s team do not do that. He wants to pass the ball and will have more technical players as we have seen with his recruitment of Cullen and Burns.

Out of all the youngsters I think Braybrooke has the highest ceiling…. Looks so calm and assured on the ball…

 

A pretty crap game and chances created stats are clearly horrific, but I refuse to shit the bed just yet…. We’ve got a proper #9 to come in and I get the impression we’re not done in this transfer window (Okoli simply can’t play in this system)…. Amongst the dross there were some impressive passages of play that no other team in this league could produce…

That is really sad mate. That from a season ticket holder since I stopped playing senior league football in ‘90, with an 8 year old football mad grandson who supports Man City! I keep telling him he’ll support his local team once he starts coming down with me, but what’s going to encourage him?

For me it's interesting that the reactions of so many commentators on here who are complaining about the same old crap happening on the field are replicating the same old complaints that they've been making since we won the Premier. Of course, it's become noticeably more toxic since the Rodger's regime ended with our first relegation, but it would be almost funny if the situation with the team and club weren't so tragic.

The academy lads are, at the moment, the bees' knees. I wonder when, if we find ourselves in a mid-table mire (or worse) those boys will become the target of 'supporters' ire.

I get it - the Club has been run down by incompetence - Top and Rudkin being the villains most selected for criticism - justifiably for me. We've been constantly frustrated and helpless watching this shitshow go on for season after season now. But the response has become monotonously tedious now.

No chance of me not following City after sixty+ years but I'll be focusing on Tottenham for now. Before you all start mocking, a close relative has just transitioned from their academy to the first team squad. That's a good enough reason for me to get a little positivity out of football now.

Can’t lie having watched the game, I’m feeling quite down about the season, we gave away more chances than we created, on a better day they could’ve had 4 or 5, and us 3 maybe at a push.

It doesn't need explaining again we saw how many goals came from Thomas's side last season. Both CB are going to make mistakes on the ball - Nelson's injury is a big blow. I'll reserve judgement on McCarthy for now after only one game but we need sort these issues - and fast

As expected, we had nothing up front, and looked shaky at the back, but I was at least expecting to see some energy, urgently, and to, in general, dictate the play.  Didn't see that at all though. That was the most disappointing part, there wasn't any evidence that we'd improved at all from last season.

After the mad first 5 mins we dominated that first half. If we score the couple of goals in that period like we should have the game is done. Only felt as bad as it did because we absolutely let Notts back in and pile the pressure on.

The biggest worry for me is that County didn’t look any different to a Charlton or a Stoke for instance last season. These teams are all fit and quick and once out of the Premier the main difference is chances being taken? Stoke or Charlton etc would’ve scored 2 maybe, Brighton 5 in the Premier?

Seeing Skipp, BDR having the ball nicked off them because they’re not quick enough is a big concern, particularly when Martin says we need a couple of old heads/ experienced players!

Good for you – and well done to the lad (I presume you mean Spurs men's team, as opposed to the WSL team). 

 

To answer one of your questions...

I think one of the persistent complaints you refer to has been that we haven't given youth a chance enough – or sold some talented youngster (or simply let them leave). Therefore, on that particular point, I don't think there will be disgruntlement or fan anger towards the ones we finally see on the pitch this season. It does help that Braybrooke, Alves and JJ were the best players on the pitch yesterday. But even if we do get into a mid-table, mediocre season, the blame for that can not be placed on their young shoulders. That would definitely be on the seasoned professionals around them.
