No offence but I think that's a pretty ridiculous quote. The best it's ever seen? Based on what? Half the team are academy graduates. The other half are journeymen. Leeds and Man city have been at this level in the last 20 years ISH I'm sure they had good squads. They're will have been other teams that smashed the division with squads that were built meticulously and with care. I'm not saying we shouldn't be doing better, be should, but I cannot get my head around anybody claiming we have an amazing squad. Expensive, yes. High quality? Yet to see any evidence of that.

Ok maybe not THE best but certainly up there and I don’t think the squad that Pearson had in this division was significantly better than this one.

Do you really think anyone in our current squad is going to get numbers anywhere close to this? Let alone 5 players on double figures of goal contributions?

Easy to say with the power of hindsight but the Pearson League One team won the league, went half the season unbeaten and only lost about 3 games (only once at home all season). Even just mentality wise, they're clearly far superior.

Fryatt who had flattered to deceive at a higher level.

Howard? We have Riis.

Lloyd Dyer would walk into this team, yes.

Oakley? Any better than Lundstram? Hmm.

Andy King? Footballs moved on from him IMO.

Gradel and Cleverley at THAT time were no better or proven than the likes of Watson, Alves and Howell.

Dickov? Yeah he would be in our squad.

Hobbs of course but he too would look sh*te in a RM system.

Same with MM.

Bruno Berner, same again.

The rest? Gilbert better than JJ and Aluko?

Mattock never really stood out.

Nicky Adams was pretty ineffective for us.

I do agree on mentality though but most of that came from management.

Riis has the definite potential to get fryatts numbers if he gets more crosses and chances.

And didn't we get straight into the championship play offs the next season? Wasn't that the kermogant year?

I think you're trying to find an argument to support your view. At this moment there's absolutely nothing to back up the ascertiin that our players have really any level of quality about them. Certainly King, Davies, Tunchev, Fryatt, Howard, dyer and Dickov would all walk into our team.

Could you explain how I’m trying to find an argument?

Absolutely nothing? You sure?

Riis is a proven championship striker, more than Fryatt was. Are you absolutely certain Fryatt would start over him?

Gradel and cleverley for example had done nothing more than say Watson and Alves had at that point?

Read and look up stuff before you naturally just disagree with my posts 👍🏼

I agree with everything except for Braybrooke being 17th place in the squad and the similar implications with Alves.

Both have been in our top 5 players this season. It's fine if you think they're not good enough to be the best players on the team and carry us to promotuon but we have 6 other positions to improve in the starting XI before we get to those two.

If every position in our team was at Alves/Braybrooke level which is a 4-5/10 half the time and an 8 out of 10 the other half of the time we would be fine. Instead we have a team full of consistent 3/10s.

I'm not saying that they are the 17th best players in our squad necessarily, but more that if they were, that would be OK for me. You don't need to pad your squad out with expensive squad fillers, they're about the most cost effective way we could pad it out. I've never understood why people would want to just get rid if they aren't our best players.

Wilson-Brown is a good example. He's gone to Stockport (who, predictably, look a lot better than us) and is their 4th choice CB - that would've been fine for us, we didn't need to sell him to go and piss the proceeds on O'Hora.

More than good enough regardless of pace.

We still have some quick players like Howell, Watson, Aluko and JJ. They just aren’t used correctly.

Id say it’s still the best squad this league has ever seen, despite the change, transfers and decline of our club.

Do me a favour 🤣🤣. Our league 1 side under Nigel Pearson is levels above this one without even considering any other team!

If you've ever watched L1 football before I doubt you really believe this. With the best will in the world, we'll struggle to make playoffs this year!

FWIW, just one example: Birmingham side that got promoted was LEVELS above our squad

I think Fryatt would yes alongside Howard. Riis is probably the only possible argument though at this stage I'm not sure he's done enough to really have a conversation..

I didn't mention gradel or cleverly. You've ignored all the other players I did mention.

It’s largely a management and coaching issue, the squad really isn’t much different in quality to the previous league one squad we had.

Like I’ve already said:

Riis is better than Fryatt for a start.

The goalkeeping situation? It was loans last time we were L1.

MM and Jack Hobbs? They came here with nothing behind them or below championship experience.

Berner? Yes he’s better.

Gilbert? No better or more proven than Aluko or JJ.

Oakley? Any better than Lundstram? Really?

Dyer. Yes.

Cleverley and Gradel. I’ve made this point twice already in prior posts.

This squad we have is the best in the league at present and one of the best this tier has seen.

I concede it isn’t THE best.

I agree that we should use the academy more to fill our bench options but I don't think that applies to Braybrooke and Alves who ideally would be part of the starting XI alongside better players.

I agree and would not put them as low as I was saying there. But I've not been bowled over by either. Neither have been bad. Neither have been great. But they're both players I'd persist with and there are far more I'd get rid of first. Well for the reason I said, they're two of the last I'd be looking to move on.

Keepers- jakub is about league 1 imo , others not promotion winning levels

full backs - wouldn’t swap JJ for anyone tbh,  but the others I wouldn’t say are above the level,  I think you can get by with them if used well, I think aluko had tons of potential but he’s not there yet so hard to say he’s this level at this moment.

cbs…  souttar, Nelson easily championship players. Kanga has promise… potentially the best we have

okoli, not suited to England.ohora league 1 will be his level.

cm- lundstrum proved already he’s a lower champ mid. Sammy and page both still learning but easily could play allowed champ football in the right sides.

wing- Alves I think is a very good league 1 players… jury’s out if he has the consistent output to push in to be a championship player. Burns, as a squad player in this league should be okay, Doyle looked promising, Howell not ready for senior football yet. Watson … no idea but looks like  this would also be his level at best.  Cullen he’ll score plenty in league 1

Striker- riis likely the best striker in this division. Bristic … hadn’t troubled league 1 defenders so no he’s not this level yet based on what we’ve seen.

all in all,  I’ve identified that we have an 11 either better than league one or at this level … it’s clearly no the ability of players that’s holding us back.

it’s tactics, it’s attitude and it’s mentality. All 3 need drastic fixes. And we desperately need a left back who’s not luke Thomas

There is a team within this squad.

We need a manager who puts players before lunatic tactics and can mould a team and team spirit over a few games.

Easily good enough to stay up from what I've seen with the players we have already.

Need to cut the obvious shite .... McCarthy, Thomas, Okoli, O'Hora, Reid, Cullen, Burns

I'm excluding the academy players with the exception of Thomas but so far the only player that looks good enough for this league is Riis.

Most of our experienced players aren't fast, athletic, fit or strong enough to play any other type of football than the slow laborious shit we currently have.

We might be OK when Chaplin back.... dunno why I feel he is the missing link...

However..... we can't be a 1 man team.

He has been coming back from injury since last year 🤣🤣🤣 back next week.... back next week ....

That's our problem.... we don't put crosses in , and give the attacker the service.

His goals seem to come from his own perseverance (Riis)
