Nationwider Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 i have a fall album (best of......... ) and its ok, i got it because of mark e. smith being on the inspiral carpets 'i want you' and mark riley (of mark and lard fame ) being a member in the early days Snr Stez's post made me go all dewy-eyed and sentimental.... Hands up if you thought Mark and Lard's afternoon show on Radio 1 was the bestest thing on radio ever? And Hit The North, for that matter? Apart from the genius of items such as Mouse News, Fat Larry White and Craig & David, they put some great music on daytime radio and got me into bands like Grandaddy, Belle & Sebastian, Ooberman, Elliott Smith and Camper Van Beethoven. They are sadly missed as a duo, but MR's shows on R2 are still quite good - haven't listened for a while though.

But never really liked Mark and Lard. At least we can agree on the awful, car-crash radio that is Colin and Edith. I like Moyles and Mills too, although Moyles does more for me. Mills' show is funny but too scripted and pre-planned. Moyles' has the ability to turn up at 6.59am and just make it up as he goes along.

The best DJs at the moment are on 6 Music, the BBC digital station. They play some quality tunes in the daytime!

Edith's voice gets on my nerves and they play shite music , cept maybe the odd track.
Jay Posted 7 January 2006 Posted 7 January 2006 I don't really listen to Radio 1 anymore Mark and Lard were legends who rumour has it were forced out because they refused to stick to the Radio 1 playlist and wanted to play other stuff they didn't want to be puppets, like the rest of them on radio1. The boy lard also has a good show on 6music which is probably the best channel around at the minute Can't stand Chris Moyles I think he is a total idiot and not in a good way I also think he is a bit of a coward after he was on Buzzcocks the other year, went in a paddy refused to speak and then when he was back behind the comfort of his microphone he was more than happy to slag them off at every opportunity

Yep at work, I listen to Chris Moyles, Jo Whiley, put a CD on during Colin and Edith's show(Listen to bits of Colin and Edith's show normally), then listen to Scott Mills Radio 1 does tend to get abit boring, playing the same music, e.t.c, but I really couldn't hack listening to local radio...So corny and full of adverts.

That'd be John Peel Note the St Pauli shirt i liked john peel as a person (what little i knew of him off the radio and telly) but i could never listen to his show; there was to much dross i prefered steve wright in the afternoon to mark and lard, although mark and lard come a close 2nd. i bought a tape of the best of mark and lard breakfast show, only to find my best mate and his mrs were on the fat harry white bit

Sara Cox is s**t fullstop. As for Colin and Edith....don't get me started!!! Best music is on BBC Music 6 and Zane Lowe plays some good unsoldout bands. Time for a big radio one make over.

Agrees Moyles - Fat big time chancer who all of a sudden gets into footy when its cool to and Leeds are in Europe, I remember when he knew sod tout! and used to act stupid when Dave talked about Everton Whiley - Sycophantic kiss ass pain in the ass Two Celts - YAWN Mills - Pathetivc Local/Hospital Radio Jock 6M is the Way forward people!! Moyles is a dick. he just goes on and on about 1 thing, women or football. he knows nothing about either. i too remember when he never liked football but then it suddenly turned round and he sits with "normal fans" at elland road and even goes to away games so this makes him some joe legend now. Mills should be given the breakfast show slot.

I tend to listen to Virgin Extreme or whatever it is, now that I've got DAB at home, decent channel with unpretentious DJs who don't annoy the fock out of me.

Cat Burger Posted 3 February 2006 Posted 3 February 2006 I only listen to radio for Leicester games. Mills and Moyles were good about 4 years ago, I used to like Mills a lot when he wasn't full time. I use Myspace and Pure Volume if I want to listen to new bands other wise it's Ryan's itunes radio station.
