Newell Decision

Recommended Posts

I know what, there's been precious little help for the fans from the OS as usual.

It is past 1-00pm. The Newell story boke at 12.30 and we had updated it twice by then including taking in the Luton chairman's comment.

But at 1-08 there was not a word from City or from the OS.

Nor was there a word from the club about Lee Morris when I enquired.

The fans are concerned about what happens now Newell has said no.

Does Kelly stay until the end of the season, do City now follow up on other options.

There are great implications from all this but a simple statement might have been a start.

Well Thracian all I can think is that the board are as shocked as we are .... I bet they thought they had their man, and I mean I bet it was us that leaked the story that he was on his way and well now he isn't its a case of what do we do now .... I would expect something later :(

I reckon you should release a story Tharc which slates the communication between the club and the fans.

Come on get real people, this is a business we're talking about albeit with involving some underhand stop at nothing people.

I don't believe for one minute that LCFC have leaked anything about their recruitment plans, who is on or not on their list. For them to leak anything about Newell or any other applicant has been, is and would be counter productive.

As for making a statement now, you name me one example of any decent business where they announce that someone hasn't got the job before they complete their recruitment process. The only reason they would do that is if they haven't got anyone suitable left on the list and are relaunching their recruitment.

This publication is all to the advantage of Luton and Newell it does us no good publishing details of what we are or are not doing.

Yes we all want a result but I'm amazed at the criticism of the club in this respect..

The board have already stated that they won't comment on speculation or anything like that. Just as they haven't with Cotterill, I doubt they will with Newell. As far as the board are concerned there isn't any proof that we offered him the job, just asked to speak to him and then spoke to him. Like we tried to do with Cotterill and Davies and have done with Holloway. I doubt the board will say anything until a decision is made.

The appointment of Hollway tomorrow will be the first we hear from the board.

Agreed, the fact that the board have directed attention to big names like Newell, Cotterill and Davies in the first place is a great credit to them for having high ambitions. It would be unprofessional to announce that Newell has rejected us as it says to 'all the other candidates' that 'your not first choice we'll offer you the job because Newell didn't want it'. What sort of an incentive is that to the new man?

For those that don't know, Napoleon was the third choice for leader of the french revolutionaries... he didn't do too badly for 10 years ;)

More frustration than anything, I hate being in the dark. Even RK pleaded with the club to keep himself informed of the developments, so it seems the club were even keeping him in the dark at one point.

That's also standard practice in most businesses so I'm not surprised.

Dunno if it'll be on our OS really, unless Tim wants to make a statement. The Cotterill story wasn't on our OS, or the Billy Davies one.

Or the reserves report for God know's how long, or any news about Lee Morris which fans are forever asking about. Leicester are notably concerned about preserving the advantage that their official site enjoys over other media which is all very well so long as they keep people informed. The Luton OS carried this story minutes after it happened.

Well the board are probably having meetings, enjoying there tea's and biscuits to bother givin gus a statement. The guys looking after the OS are probably surfing the web looking at porn, rather than updating it!!!

But it was in their interest Thracian, it would serve us no purpose at this stage in the interview process, indeed it could well work against us if we announced anything. Whatever they say would have to be guarded and would therefore pose more questions than answers.

As for the reserves, Morris and other infromation I'd agree they are pretty poor, but in this instance I firmly believe they are doing the right thing, we all know how stories are twisted and once these things start nothing you say will alter peoples' perceptions of a situation, far better to keep stum until you've got something concrete and positive to say.

Rob Kelly at leicester City isn't like some spotty geek behind a till at McDonalds though.

I never imagined he was but having been in Senior Managerial position myself when something like this has happened, which was having very big affect on my position you're still told FA. Kelly is just an employee of LCFC; the directors' have no real requirement to keep him informed, he hasn't even expressed an interest in the job. Yes they could tell him out of curtesy, but for all they know he could be applying for the Derby job. ;)

lol. booooooo

Said it once I will say it again. For me, staying up is about instilling passion for LCFC in the players. I am all for Kelly and have been since the QPR game. I want to Lennon in the close season. Yeah OK we have debated Lennon. But for the moment, RK is our man.

"Regretfully Mike Newell has declared himself disinterested in the City manager's job. As a result a) we will continue with our efforts to find.... or b) we have therefore decided in the interests of stability to allow rob Kelly etc.. It isn't hard. Same with Lee Morris and lots of other examples I could mention.
