Craig Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Just had a little crash in my car. Stupid woman thought it was a good idea to pull out of a junction and drive across the road about 5 metres from me while i was doing 40. Slammed my brakes on, sounded my horn, made no difference tho. Went straight into the side of her. Made a right mess of her car, mine has minimal damage really, i'm a bit shaken and pissed off though, and she's cost me a nights work too. She admitted she wasn't looking properly, yet she had 4 kids in the car; one that wasn't hers and one that was a baby. How irresponsible is that?! Could have been fatal. Stupid cow!

She may have cost you a nights work, better that than your life eh You'll get over it

Thracian Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 There was a women did exactly that at a junction near my house recently and knocked a teenager off his motor cycle as she entered a main road from a side road. The kid really was lucky to survive and she said she'd been signalled out into the road by a transit driver who was turning left. Stupid sod. Anyway the kid wasn't badly hurt (could so easily have slid underneath an artic) but his new moped was damaged. Instead of getting the kids dad to send the bill and being thankful she didn't kill the lad she since denied it was her fault. The kids insurers then cancelled his cover and he was left without transport for his first and new job. The kid had been riding at less than 15 mph p[erfectly safely. What a miserable cow. I hate the idea of going to court and getting involved with anything like this but I'm so livid I've told the kid I'll be a witness and if there's any justice (which I don't suppose there will be) I'll make sure the smug bitch gets all she deserves.

My Dad took photo's of an accident in our village, when I was young, where a neighbour on a motorbike got knocked off and lost inches from one of his legs. The car driver threatened to kill him unless he handed over the film...he was an Army copper, whatever they call them. Started off with pigs heads on stakes in the front lawn and went up from there to full threats of death. The silly old bugger stuck to his guns, made copies of the pictures and gave a set to the lads family and a set to the coppers. I've always taken my attitude from him that whenever you see injustice or someone needing a hand you act, no matter the consequences. Good on you Thracian.

Sorry to hear about the accident ... at least with some honest form filling you should get your car as good as new and maybe a sun-filled 2 week holiday to boot
davieG Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Not as serious and in some ways amusing, my brother was stationary in the off side lane indicating to turn right into a minor road when he saw a driver attempting to reverse back onto the main road. Assuming that she'd made an error in turning into the road and feeling sorry for her, he could see the road was clear of all traffic and signalled for her to reverse out. I'm sure you can guess, 4 lanes of road, no traffic in sight, he sat there in disbelief as she reversed at speed across two straight into the front of his car smashing the wing and headlight. He's not quite so curteous these days.
Benji Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Least you'll get money for your car wont you as she admitted not looking?
davieG Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Least you'll get money for your car wont you as she admitted not looking? The insurance companies will still try and go knock for knock, this way both clients lose their no claims, if they have it and the insurers claw back some cash in the mean time through extra payments. Well that's what's happened to me on more than one occasion in the 11+ times I've been the innocent victim of shunts, hits, bumps etc.
Head Honcho Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Least you'll get money for your car wont you as she admitted not looking? Don't matter whose fault it is your always out of pocket! *Looks over shoulder to make sure the missus isn't looking* Women drivers

He's not quite so curteous these days. Your brother went straight into the back of her. I was reading something stupid the other night about how some people are actually setting up accidents to claim large sums from insurance scams. It's the new trick apparently. Should any passengers in the car in front start looking behind at you, slow down and make sure you don't go into the back of them when they emergency stop on an open road with no witnesses about (except for the passengers in their car). It's amazing the "injuries" someone can sustain when making insurance claims.
Daggers Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Don't matter whose fault it is your always out of pocket! Depends how you fill in a claim form
Guest Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Craig, you make sure you tell your insurance that she said she wasn't paying attention, then it stuffs her insurance company if they try knock for knock. Someone did that to me, and I had my excess back from his insurer before my insurance company had sorted their paperwork out (if it's 100% her fault, you can claim your excess back).
Head Honcho Posted 24 July 2006 Posted 24 July 2006 Depends how you fill in a claim form .........................or get some compo for your whiplash which of course you have Craig! Yes Craig you do have whiplash believe me you do
Dellyjo Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 .........................or get some compo for your whiplash which of course you have Craig! Yes Craig you do have whiplash believe me you do I worked for an insurance company & it's amazing what people will claim for. If you have injuries then by all means claim, unfortunately fake injuries are what increases everyones car insurance each year.
macbeth Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 here's the old chestnuts.........well it is the silly season ACTUAL STATEMENTS FROM INSURANCE CLAIMS The following are actual statements found on insurance forms where car drivers attempted to summarise the details of an accident in the fewest possible words : "I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law and headed over the embankment." "I thought my window was down, but I found it was up when I put my head through it." "I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way." "A truck backed through my windshield into my wife's face." "The guy was all over the road. I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him." "I was on the way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way" "To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front I struck a pedestrian." "An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished." "I saw a slow moving, sad faced old gentleman as he bounced off the roof of my car." 1st Place: This year's runaway winner was Mrs. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, (from an OU football game), having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back & make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mrs.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising her in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually do this. The jury awarded her $1,750,000 plus a new motor home. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons around.
Katy Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Don't matter whose fault it is your always out of pocket! *Looks over shoulder to make sure the missus isn't looking* Women drivers Blokes can be equally as stupid when driving (if not worse) I have first hand experience of this Glad you are ok Craig, its a nightmare but at least you are reasonably ok. Kids can be mega distracting when driving but that's no excuse.

If you have injuries then by all means claim, unfortunately fake injuries are what increases everyones car insurance each year. If insurance companies didn't stiff people on legitimate claims then fewer people would be incliuned to be *ahem* creative with their claims. On my bike, valued at £1600, I was given £650.00. Nothing for the lock and chain, nothing for the damage to the property and nothing for my increased costs afterwards. I HATE INSURANCE COMPANIES

Craig Posted 25 July 2006 Author Posted 25 July 2006 Just rang her insurance company up, cos they left me a message. Said she'd admitted blame and they wanted to know how much i'd like to claim. I said £400 for the front damage, even tho the garage said it'd be £350ish, and also said i'd lost a nights work that cost me £30. Within seconds she said the cheque was being printed and would be with me in 2 days. Lovely people
Rincewind Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Tharacian, I'm no driver, cyclist or expert but isn't it stated in the highway code that you should give way to traffic upon entering a major road at a junction? Or do motorbikes not count as vehcles?

So what your saying is that if less people claim my premiums will go down? Like bollox will they! They may not go up as much but go down they will not!
Matt Posted 25 July 2006 Posted 25 July 2006 Unless it was a major problem for me, and really expensive to get fixed there'd be no point in my claiming, because I have to play £400 excess in the first place. i.e - My first quote for my paint job on my car as some chavs chucked a brick at it was £500, most people possibly claim for that right? Whats the point for people of my age? When we have to pay around £400 excess to gain £100???? Eventually I got the paint job down to £300 still alot of money and still money I had to fork out for.... If it was legal I would go uninsured, It'd be a risk but a risk i'd be willing to take. Although my insurance is finally on the slide, £1700 in my first year - Did pass plus got it a refund for £200, £800 in the second year - Got my new car got a £40 refund, Third year? I can't see my insurance dropping as much next year the main drop is in your 1 st year of driving, Although soon i'll be able to start looking at all the companies that claim "If you have 3 years or more no claims, we will beat any quotes".......yeah i'm sure. Glad to hear your ok Craig. (Touching wood) Over 1 and a 1/2 years driving and not a scratch for me....
