Graz Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Fine but the problem I have with a few posters is that they are using last year as an excuse for poor performances this year. RK did brilliantly last year so he is above criticism this year. Not so. This is a fresh slate this season and so far he has only bad marks on that fresh slate. Okay, but so far so do Andy Ritchie, Geraint Williams, Phil Parkinson, Nigel Worthington, Jim Magilton, Tony Pulis, and Gary Waddock Pretty sure the fans of all those 7 clubs won't all be calling for their managers heads just yet! We're a very negative bunch. It's easy to get carried away after the first game of the season, and I'm sure if we'd won 2-0 today people would be saying we were gonna get promoted (although I think they'd be less of those than there are the defeatists now).. People just need to calm it down a bit though.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Couldn't agree more. Today we've learned just how many two-faced, fickle, so-called "fans" still attach themselves to our club. Look how soon they've rushed to join the lynch mob. Have they forgotten what happened in the early months of the MON era? It's ONE game FFS. If we'd gone 10 games without a win THEN I'd be worried.

Problem is I have learnt from last season as I was saying something similar at about this time a year ago.
Daggers Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 It is largely irrelevant what anyone thinks about replacing a manager (no matter how ludicrous after only one game) seeing as the club is not in any position to start doling out severance packages. Not only are we 'in it together', we're all in it together until the end of the contractual obligations.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 But Kelly is NOT Levein Mark 2! Stop pressing the panic button and pretending that he is.
chili_con_carne Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 This is stupid people are over reacting. You are allowed to lose at least once in a season. Reading lost on the first game of the season last yr and look where they are now.
Thracian Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 I see Ultra's offered the thumbs up so that means what you've said sure won't quite add up, starting with the fact that no-one's said sack Rob Kelly. But your point about changing the team is relevent...but only once you've got a balanced team in the first place. What's the point in sticking with an unbalanced team? Ours isn't balanced by a long way. And if you can find alternatives to affect the changes necessary outside the Academy/Reserves, with no money, fine. I've no objection. And as far as the sexual iunnuendo is concerned I think it's you who needs to look at why you're so keen to keep your experienced big boys in the side, cos it sure as hell isn't anything to do with football. Nor is this about one game as you pretend as a means of defending the indefensible. The shortcomings aired on here tonight have been apparent for ages and to anyone who cares to look. It is just whenever anyone's suggested changes its been "Stick with the lads who saved us, don't change a winning team, we're not safe yet, and endless other put offs." You have to constantly develop a football team otherwise everyone around you overtakes. Explain where we've developed? Name one position where we're stronger? It's not defeat I'm complaining about. It's the manner of defeat. Our system was so effective we managed one serious shot. And all you can do is mock the team that played at Hinckley and won 5-0 with a bit of swagger. Well I know which I preferred watching - and it had nothing to do with your suggestion though if that's the way your cesspit of a mind works nothing perhaps you should examine your own preferences.
BartonFox Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 But Kelly is NOT Levein Mark 2! Stop pressing the panic button and pretending that he is. If you want to keep deluding yourself that is fine
BartonFox Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 This is stupid people are over reacting. You are allowed to lose at least once in a season. Reading lost on the first game of the season last yr and look where they are now. Oh great another "Reading lost their first game arguement". Difference is they had decent players and manager.

Well I know which I preferred watching - and it had nothing to do with your suggestion though if that's the way your cesspit of a mind works nothing perhaps you should examine your own preferences. Oh for crying out loud, turn it in about the Hinckley United game, they were a sub standard opposition for any professional team. You only have to look at the goals; hoofs up front and defensive calamities all over the shop. It's very difficult to look poor when you win 5-0 and are vastly superior in fitness to a bunch of amatuers. Every time you bring this Hinckley sham to the table anything you offer immediately loses any respect.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Couldn't have put it better myself. We lost today in part because we had too many lightweights in the team, who were unable to compete with physically stronger opposition. Neither Sheehan nor Porter would have changed that.
PAULCFC Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Was at kenilwoth road today. Can't go allong with all the doom merchants on here.I'm as dissapointed as any one at not only the result but the manner of defeat. But it's only the first game. Will be at the walkers on tuesday and saturday, then i'll be worried if we play as badly.Surely we can't.

We lost today in part because we had too many lightweights in the team, who were unable to compete with physically stronger opposition. Neither Sheehan nor Porter would have changed that. What crap, too many lightweights!. Luton were hardly a marauding team of hardcases. And most of the City players out there fought the battles of Millwall, Burnley, Preston, Reading etc. Luton won because they passed the ball better, had more penetration, better balance and fewer weaknesses.
Tommeh Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 The depression on this board is unbearable, we have lost one game. One game!!!!!!! Who's with me for being positive???
Matt Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 The depression on this board is unbearable, we have lost one game. One game!!!!!!! Who's with me for being positive??? Nah Kelly Out But if we win on Tuesday he'll be god again. If we win on Tuesday we'll have won the league or at least secured a play-off spot...knowing some fickle fans on here....
Tommeh Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 surely a defeat on tuesday will seal his fate, its not like he saved us from being relegated to the 3rd tier of english football or anything!
Loake Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 I thinkits more the performance that everyones down about, even our good players played poorly today.
Benji Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 I've not read many posts but today was sh1t. You cannot deny that and there are no excuses. That said there are 45 games to play, the reality is you can be the most optimistic fan in the world yet if we play like that it's going to be one sh1t season.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Yeah. We all know today's performance wasn't good enough but starting to ask for Kelly out at this stage of the season is laughable. I also read that Thracian thinks Stowell could do a better job due to him winning a pre-season friendly at Hinckley... As if Kelly had no input as to who played in the Hinckley match and like Stowell has no input into what our first team does! I'm still confident about this season despite today.
PAULCFC Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 I was there today.Dissapointed, but we all have bad days at work!Give it a few more games then we'll all have a better idea where we're going
Bert Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 The reason for this is - we got so excited about how good Kelly did for us last season, we were unbeaten in pre season so this got us all hyped up about the new season added to the excitement off regualr football again - we were expecting good things, and when you expect you get kicked in the balls.
Darren27 Posted 5 August 2006 Posted 5 August 2006 Todays game was a poor result, but lets remember that Luton could be one of the teams to do well this season. We're rebuilding (I hope) the team and losing to one of the better teams in the league is no discrace. We cant win every game this season, so lets not start to get all dispondant just yet.

I can't see that, they're not close to being one of the better teams in the league, mid table at best. They've just lost their two of their best performers in the last couple of weeks in Howard and Nicholls so they're a worse off side than the one we beat towards the end of last season. The difference then was, our team set out to win the game and the players were determained enough to acheieve that to get out of the mess we were in. Welcome to Foxestalk by the way! I wouldn't say we were all hyped up either bert, alot of fans were worried previous to kickoff and half expected that today.

I don't see to many threads before the season with the fear of what happened today.. Ah?! Fans there not fickle but they only tell you about the worries and fears after its happened..Must be coincidence I remember Wigan being given not much of a chance, Prehaps Luton may follow in a similar way, Not saying they are not saying there not, just comparisons... I know theres big differences between Wigan and Luton (Money for one example) but the point i'm making its Wigan were wrote off and proved everyone wrong, Luton have won today but does that means they'll do well this season? No not necesserilly, so are Leicester gonna do well, No if they have proformances like today, but on a whole no not necesserilly.
