Lineker's Left Foot Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 What do you lot think?? Does the current plight of the club need to get worse than it does better, obviously through worse results on the pitch. I remember a Villa fan on the box, only a year ago, saying that "The fans hope Villa get a lot worse, just to force out Doug Ellis and his cronies". It hasn't done them any harm. On the other hand, F*rest went down and they're still down there - although riding near the top this season and with a new board I think (?). Even they've invested in players i.e. Nathan Tyson for £750,000 and retained Kris Commons. What do people think, will continued bad results force the board to go through intensive fan pressure ???

Daggers Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 What do people think, will continued bad results force the board to go through intensive fan pressure ??? The worse the position of the club, the cheaper we will be and the more attractive a buyout proposition we become. It's like one of those 'unique lowest bid' auctions - only without any bidding. ...Or it being an auction. What a crap analogy
Thracian Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 In some ways... I cannot bring myself to wish a bad result never mind a bad time on anyone but any optimism I get about Leicester get's washed over by despair because our team never looks to be blended. You cannot watch Leicester and think "you can see what he's trying to do." It's there in our other teams but the first team seem to be a jumble. Youthful parts, older parts but no unity, no pattern of play, no joy. Our team is disjointed. Players stand in a position waiting rather than moving and making things happen. Levi adds a bit of buzz on the ball but generally there's no instinctive football, nothing that smacks of a statement being made. There's too many players who don't do much wrong but don't do much right either. It's almost pure communism. Almost as if everyone is equal and no-one more equal than others. The forwards are equal. The defenders are equal. And the Berlin Wall's been relocated to run between the two. And Kelly's a mirror image of his players. He doesn't do too much wrong considering his circumstances. But since we escaped relegation - which was never pretty, he's not done much right either. His signings aren't hopeless. But they're not good either - and no better than what we had. His teams pick up a point a game - dead average. His players are consistent enough - consistently ordinary. His selections - consistently ordinary and unimaginative. His substitutes - the same. Sylla instead of Dodds at Hereford was typical. His pre-match routines. Always the same from what I see. And the atmosphere - neutral to disappointed. Rarely ecstatic. The phrase putting a man out of his misery comes to mind but when I think that I also think RK's quite intelligent. Everyone says he's a good coach. A good bloke. The guy who saved us from relegation. He deserves a fair chance. And who can argue?. But then he picks another team and even before the kick-off I'm utterly flustrated. it's a Jack of All Trades team. It won't disgrace. It won't excite. In all probability it will draw. And I say to Rob. For God's sake don't do an Eriksson. For God's sake don't lose your job for the want of having the bottle to attack with your head but most of all with your heart. Don't draw or lose when you could so easily have picked the best players - and won.
lildave3 Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 If we go down look at the players that would leave. The likes of Hume, Fryatt, Stearman, Kisnorbo, Williams etc. i think would not want to play in league 1 so we would be down their for some time. Forest have not won for 4 games yet are still top which i find quite odd
Daggers Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 In some ways...It's almost pure communism Good pint was it?
Thracian Posted 27 September 2006 Posted 27 September 2006 Good pint was it? It need to be more than one with our team right now!
Chrysalis Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 Thracian you are deluded if you think the board has no problems and all out problems are down to a bad manager, The club has no feel good factor kelly is probably depressed due to a crap budget and it has rubbed off on his squad as well.

DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 And consistency is one of the best things Kelly can do in trying to manage with his hands tied.

Why should he be depressed?. He's got a manager's job he probably didn't expect and wouldn't have got if we'd had the funds to get a higher profile boss. Opportunity knocked - and all he had/has to do is take it.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 If it gets much worse we go bust surely?
Monk Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 Don't draw or lose when you could so easily have picked the best players - and won. (I wont quote it all) Great post Thrac I must say, very true. The only thing I can add and I have said this a few times is that we lack a figurehead who will get the team motivated. Walsh was never a fantastic player, but the motivation he gave the players and the attitude he gave the fans were what made us Leicester City. I really do think we will struggle until we have another player of similar qualities. Even with people like Elliott, Taggs, Lennon & Muzz long gone we have not one single player that the fans can look to and say - its OK that we're 1-0 down because we've got <insert figurehead> and ANYTHING can happen. Part of why I feel so dissappointed to watch or listen to Leicester now days it that I dont feel that anything can happen, I dont feel there is one player that is always sturdy & reliable & inspirational. Would Nils keep hoofing those balls if he had Taggs giving him an earful each time he did it?? Would Fryatt move more creatively if we had someone with VISION in midfield like Lennon? Where is the passion? I often feel it left with Muzz a few years back.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 In reply to Monk, the only player at our club with anything close to the energy, creative spark, passion, crowd pathos and enthusiasm that you mention was on the bench for our last game. In my humble opinion of course.
Chrysalis Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 if I remember correctly kelly isnt hungry for the job and prefers coaching roles.
Thracian Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 if I remember correctly kelly isnt hungry for the job and prefers coaching roles. Perhaps that's the answer. Starve the guy and say he only gets paid/fed if we win. I bet we'd get some goals then. In fact that whole approah might be good for football because a report has just come out saying that gates are still falling and that peopleare fed up with high ticket prices and lousy, defensive football. And someone paid for that report.....

In fact that whole approah might be good for football because a report has just come out saying that gates are still falling and that peopleare fed up with high ticket prices and lousy, defensive football. And someone paid for that report..... That's my main gripe, the players tend to give it there all, but IMO, it's the tactics, and ethos that let the team down, OK we don't have midfielders that can play killer passes but to be so toothless has to be a concern, which the managemtn has not resolved!!!
Finn Claw Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 It seems to me that to not get relegated rather than to win promotion is our aim this season. This negative approach seems to be reflected in our team selection and style of play that I do blame RK for. However I can’t really blame RK too much given that the board have given him no money to work with and with a rolling contract no real faith in his abilities. Given his task last season was to save us from relegation, I think it is a bit much to ask RK to cut the wage bill and sign the right free transfers to balance out our team and create a side capable of winning promotion. Some good free transfer are/were out there but we are far from the only club looking for them. We have no money and no one willing to put money into the club, unless we somehow attract a very very shrewd manager we are in this position for a long time, I also think we are still probably losing money as the attendance to the games is unlikely to be high enough to service the debt on the stadium. I’m becoming increasingly pessimistic because it is hard to see a way out of the cycle of debt, no money and selling your best players (which will start to happen if we can’t repay our interest payements).

Monk do you have an amazing memory or a referenced library of old thread links? This wasn't a particularly memorable thread even at the time!!
