Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Goal or no goal, the bloke is still a **** for that whinging press article! Not sure I agree there. Elvis worked really hard close season, improved his sharpness, did well in the friendlies, but got very little opportunity in the first team and when he did - despite our best win of the season - he was soon out. And it's true, he doesn't look elegant. But good things happen when he's around which is more than can be said for Hughes and Johnson generally - yet these two get selected all the time and have had far more "chances" than ever Elvis has had. I've already mentioned Dodds. He's an understated person on the football field but, despite his huge rack of goals in recent seasons he gets overlooked even for Sylla. In the end, anyone who wants a career is going to open their mouth and say something. Kelly has a problem because he's got 20-odd players for 11 places and most of those who seem to be his biggest pals (including his signings) are amongst our worst performers. Furthermore there's the wages versus prospects conflict then, doubtless there are agents bleating into his earhole. Not easy. And less easy today to put two fingers up to the lot of em and select the best team without fear or favour. If it was then certain people wouldn't continually get in the side when they're playing so badly. Hammond stood up for himself cos no-one else will. And while everyone takes the piss he's already scored more goals for City this season than O'Grady and Fryatt in fewer matches and against arguably the hardest opposition and, shame to say, is joint top scorer by my count. It's not a strong case admittedly. But while the likes of Hughes and Johnson are in the team it'll do.
lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 As I've said elsewhere... the fact that we're even discussing whether Elvis should or should not be playing for us shows how far we have fallen. It's also annoying that his childish outburst has been in some way vindicated. Unprofessional. Would you rather he (/we) didn't score yesterday? I agree it wasn't terribly sensible to go to the press like that - but frankly it's partially the club's fault, I reckon. Without a proper reserve team (not the current play-once-a-month lark) half our fringe players are being left on the sidelines with no means of keeping themselves properly match fit. That's bad for the players, it's bad for the team as a whole - especially if we ever need to call up the likes of Dodds who never seems to play at all any more. Perhaps if Hammond was getting proper games - either first team or regular reserve, he might not have bothered bitching about his situation. We had an ideal oppourtunity to get together with say 4 or 5 local-ish teams such as ourselves, who were expelled from the Premiership Reserve leagues, and form a small local reserve league. I'm sure there'd be a few clubs keen on the idea - games for players returning from injury etc... We failed to take it, and that's a shame.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Yep, and he's still crap The problem now is that because he got a goal from three yards out to salvage a point for us everyone will now think he was completely justified in what he said. Even more worrying some fans now think our goal scoring problem has been resolved as Elvis looks is business. No-one thinks that but his goal at Hereford wasn't from point blank range. It wasn't quite a Didier Drogba turn and whack but he chested the ball down on the edge of the area with a marker up his arse, turned and whacked it in with emphasis. When has Hughes ever been near the edge of the f.....g box this season. It wouldn't matter anyway. as Boy Genius observed on another forum, you've only got to fart and you'll blow him over. Elvis is not elegant but he does fight and he does persist. Like I said last week - I'd rather have one Hammond than any number of Hughes'.

If you are a footballer who is pissed off then either: a)go see the manager and explain your sentiments or b)go see the manager and request a transfer Carping to a journo (no disrespect intended) saying how you're not going to carp about it simply looks pathetic.

Agreed. Elvis is a plank

Bingo. Not blessed with much tact/brains is our Elvis.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Hughes was near the edge of the f.....g box when he scored against Ipswich. In football terms, that's almost like saying you remember King Canute trying to halt the tide.

People react differently when they're pissed off.

lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 If you're over 20, no chance. Sorry Thrac, I'm 21. Still, I could probably show a few of our players (first term) how to play for the shirt. Even if I am a crap footballer.

lookwhaticando Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 That last line might just be the clincher! I'm better than Hughes and Johnson. Combined. I'll show 'em how to pass.
Ultra Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 Goal or no goal, the bloke is still a **** for that whinging press article! How much of that was down to him though? Couldn't it have been a journo trying to twist his words? Anyway, with Fryatt definitely out for two months, we're going to see a lot more of him whether folk like it or not.

The People's Hero Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Of course, none of your innumerable posts have EVER betrayed the slightest sign of immaturity... Innumerable? Hardly - check the post count. Seems to be a number to me. Immaturity? To use your favourite phrase. Pot-kettle-black?
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Oh FFS, if Mandaric really IS our only hope we may as well give up now!Or do you really want a paedo to run our team? After all, that's what Mandaric tried at Pompey!
Master Fox Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Is that quote from Ultra by any chance Manwell?
The People's Hero Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Is that quote from Ultra by any chance Manwell? Probably - but we're all immature!
Master Fox Posted 2 October 2006 Posted 2 October 2006 Probably - but we're all immature! Well we must be if Ultra said so.
