Wezleylowski Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 Rothley Chippy - The Finest Yes i would agree much better than steves fish bar in sorrel . uuhhh
Nationwider Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 Haven't been there for ages (as I live approx. 170 miles away from it now).... But it was (and hopefully still is) King Of Chippies. I can't say I've ever sat in there. Usually just a take-out for NW.
Birdy Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 oooo 'The Time and Plaice' in Rothley, has to be the BESt fish and chip shop ever. The fact you can have free top ups of chips as you go is ace!!

Wezleylowski Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 with a recommendation like that how can i refuse??! what can i say, being one of gods closest friends i often wait outside his toilet and sneakily scoop out his excrement in handfulls when he goes into the lounge so get yourself down there and buy a cone !
lildave3 Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 Help yourself I might aswell pipe up for my local, which is the Markfield chippy. Tasty.
Scow Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 I had a chippeh from there tonight, lovely stuff. As Nationwider is a man of class and taste, his opinion speaks volumes.
Monk Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 Trawlers Catch in Loughborough is legendary Surely Rothley cannot beat it?
cisono Posted 28 February 2007 Posted 28 February 2007 Fried stuff is bad for you. I cannot eat it. I do not miss it.
James. Posted 1 March 2007 Posted 1 March 2007 I've sampled the delights of Rothley chip shop but whether it's just my territorial side saying this I always go for Birstall Fisheries. Living in London really gets my cravings going - it is so hard in the South to find a PROPER fish and chip shop that isn't just a nasty "chicken" (I'm still not convinced chicken are involved) place.
hairy Posted 1 March 2007 Posted 1 March 2007 Best fish and chips I have ever had was in Elwood, Melbourne, Oz cooked fresh to order while you wait. Second best was Holt Fish and Chips bar, near Cromer.
Geo V Posted 1 March 2007 Posted 1 March 2007 Brings back the bad old days . As a kid my dad owned a fish and chip shop called Andys Fish Bar on Ambassador Rd, Evington way. Ours was the best by far . God I miss the days when we used to chase the local prats away from the front of the shop whilst they set the bins on fire!! BTW, I agree with James the Blue, there arent many decent proper chippies down here in London. Those chicken places are hilarious. Dixie Fried, Dallas Fried and the funniest, Alabama fried chicken where you have all the Halal signs on the doors. I have managed to find one decent chippy in the unfortunately named Cockfosters (why??!!). The only chippy there almost opposite the tube station. The rest are pants.
Alexikokopops Posted 1 March 2007 Posted 1 March 2007 Went down Cleethorpes one summers day as a young nipper and my parets got me a kids fish 'n' chips. It was about the size of me, I shit thee not.
Finnegan Posted 1 March 2007 Posted 1 March 2007 As a (former) resident of Rothley, I can happily say that the chips are leagues ahead of anything near by. The one in 'sorrel is bollocks and I used to live in Syston, too, and I can't say I ever had great chips there either. I didn't realise how amazing, in fact, Rothley chippy's chips were until I came to London. You can't get a decent portion of chips here to save your life. Insane. Oh, I've thought of one that might be better. The Grimbo.
