Time to crown the King

Indeed. Most players have trouble with the step from academy/reserve level to the first team and King was no exception.

But he did show signs of creativity in a lacklustre midfield and certainly deserves a place ahead of Kishishev or Chambers.

Whether he'll get it is another matter..

Chambers yes as he doesnt look right there but Im not too sure whether he should get in ahead of Kisha yet. I`d still have him as 4th choice central midfielder for now.

Dad went to the game and said that he didn't really notice he was there and the team looked as if they weren't trying to put him under much pressure and looked to get the ball past him rather than too him? He said he wasn't poor but definitely didn't look like he was ready yet.

Well if chambers had made his debut from the academy you would have cancelled his contract, based on a shocking display. King didn't really have a great game but at least showed that he can complete a pass, which is more than can be said for some of our more senior players.

He did OK. Obviously he was nervous and misplaced some passes and sold some players short, but he was no worse than Chambers or Kishishev.

I thought he started well, then as we became more and more turgid it was hard for him to do anything other than battle with anything that came near him. I was impressed with how good he is in the air, which is vital for us if we are going to continue to hoof the ball from defence at every opportunity. James Chambers and Kishishev didn't help him at all, they were horrifying last night.

I think he deserves another chance on Saturday alongside Clemence if he's fit and Iain Hume, who was superb when he dropped deep last night.

Chambers isn't a central midfielder. If we were still playing 4-4-2, there would have been no need to play him there.

This club is like one of those jokes that Nightguard posts. Tiresome and not funny.

Nothing special, he seemed absent from times, don't think Megson gave him much freedom.

He was steady.

Don't think he was actually absent - more that our defenders kept ignoring the fact he was there and punting the ball aimlessly. N'Gotty, who otherwise played well, was perhaps the worst culprit, yet ironicaly he is normally our best defensive passer.

In Reserves and Academy football King demands the ball and the team is used to giving it him. Last night he was very low key in that respect and seemed just to concentrate on not dropping a clanger - at least until the short spell when Hume dropped back to help and suddenly we were playing some football - not a lot but more than before.

One problem for all who graduate to the first team from our lower sides is that the approach is so different. Even in adversity, like the other night against WBA, the lower teams try to pass the ball quickly to feet.

Not just in attack but all over the field. In the first team defenders are under more pressure and the focus is on clearing the ball first and playing a bit of football if we can.

Wolves weren't like that. They passed the ball fluently throughout the side. To me failure to do that it is a major source of our problems and one which would have meant King being by-passed too often.

I was well impressed though by the Kop's reaction to King. Several times they gave him an encouraging clap after a neat piece of play and towards the end I think that encouraged him to be a bit more creative although the options created by Hume and Cort definitely helped in that respect too.

He was up against a solid bastard in Seyi Olofinjana and I didn't think he did too bad on his debut. He's got lot of potential.

It remains to be seen whether our pathetic home support gives him a chance. There were two blokes sat to my right last night at the back of the Kop who were about the last on their feet when the singing got going at the start of the second half who spent the whole match berating Mattock, calling him useless, not good enough, rubbish etc etc. I actually thought he did okay last night and he's looked about our best player in the two previous games.

It's because of morons like these that the atmosphere is poor and the players get booed off even when they've given 100% as Mattock did last night. It's not helping the team at all.

I have the odd dig at Thracian over the youth teamers and there are one or two I plain don't rate, but you HAVE to support them when they do get in the team. It's disgusting the way some of our supporters treat teenagers playing their first few games in the first team.

I haven't a regular part of the ground or seat that I go to as I usually get tickets on match day and just take it from there but I must admit that the amount of morons who don't know anything about football in all parts of the ground that we have is shockingly high. If its not ripping apart one of our own (that should always be saved for forums like this or the pub if you have to), its them wasting energy on some other moan which stops them from singing. What pi$$es me off even more is on the occasion that we do manage a goal, those very same feckwits manage to find a voice and sing. Its embarrassing to be sitting amongst these people at times but its a problem that they need to sort out and not us.

My son Ross and I felt we were in a monastery last night.

We were exiled onto the lower left side of the south stand. Ross likes to get involved (I am much more restrained ) and was joining in with all the singing and on the row in front was a mother and her two nippers who were maybe 10 and should have been in bed.

Mum wasn't into singing at all and judging by her looks will not be at all pleased having to explain all those new words to her little Johnnies this morning.

In the end we sat there like monks and felt our most animated when reading the programme notes.

And they wonder where the atmosphere's gone.

Sheltered little mites!

Encouraging words from last night's skipper on the OS:

McAuley was also full of praise for teenage debutant Andy King, who played a full 90 minutes.

"I thought he did very well and am pleased for him.

"He was top-draw, showed a touch of class, got it down and played when he could. He did the right things and made the right decisions.

"He has now given the gaffer a headache and hopefully he'll get a run in the team because he deserves it."

What else is he supposed to say?

Have just got round to reading Megson's views about King as well. Hopefully this means he'll be given a fair chance and it'll be Chambers who is either out the team or moved to right-back.

He didn't have to say anything.

Barber asked him "how do you think King played tonight". He's not going to say no comment, and he's not going to slag him off.

He could have been a lot more neutral than that though.

Did I ever say you were against King getting a chance? All I said was that if you wanted to champion someone else don't let me inhibit you.

As if he would let it inhibit him!
