I said the other day our opener need improving, sol budinger has one mode and it’s shit. So annoying. Does even have to fight for his place. Just gets in 11 every game regardless of performance.

This match has shown us just how vital Scriven and Ben Green have been for us this season, they add so much balance and nouse both in their batting and bowling. Mike isn’t it. Wright has served us well but he’s done now too.

While I generally agree with your point, Budinger has been much improved in his output this year. Patel has had a particularly poor year unfortunately.

If we can’t bat out three hours on a pitch where there’s been nearly 1000 runs so far then we don’t deserve it

Patel has averaged 27.8 with a ton and 3 fifties this season in the CC as of this post.

 

Budinger has averaged 32.5 with a ton and 2 fifties.

 

Interestingly they've both faced about 730 balls though Budinger's superior scoring rate means he's scored 618 runs vs Patel's 389.

 

Patel still in so may improve on the above.

 

Don't think either are good enough to be opening in Div 1 next season. Patel is hopefully having a poor season though last season he only averaged 36 with again a solitary ton and 3 fifties so is it a bad season or is this his level and his breakthrough season a one off. Budinger is a white ball player who is doing an ok job for us but not really good enough.

 

Some counties have had good mileage out of the likes of Jewell or Bancroft so wonder whether someone like Renshaw might have been a good investment of an overseas slot up top.

hopefully hasn’t turned into a different surface and the wet ball will be as much a hindrance to the bowlers as it will be the batsmen getting it off the bat 

 

good news is there’s a line of heavy showers sw of Birmingham with our name on them 

Approx an hour away  - hope they don’t dissipate !

Yeah if we draw and Middlesex v Derbyshire ends in a draw. Right now both results look 80% certain.

Looking at Lords Derby 138 in front and the covers are fully on by the looks of things puddles on the outfield a draw works for us and pretty sure Middlesex or derby don't want to lose
