Seems odd in retrospect. But I suppose the thinking is that they have 4 bowlers injured, all of whom would have played above Wood and Singh, but how long are they all out for and what if another bowler goes down injured this game, then we need cover. Not sure there was enough time to sign a bowler on loan, or whether other div 1 clubs will loan us players now we are in the same division. Worc have just loaned Hannon-Dalby, who would have been good for us, but that is div 1 to div 2.

Saw Hull bowling looked ok, full pelt so he will come in..

Alex Green Crutches so not good.

Patel will be in next game.

Davey said it wasnt bad but who.knows.

Mike is always either injured or just coming back from injury.

So next game Hull and Patel for Wood and Singh.

I dont see Holland as a number 3 tbh and id rather have Budinger ( i know he is hit or miss than Hill)

Hill looks like he is still in hibernation get him some cricket in the 2s etc.

Budinger

Weatherald

Patel

Ahmed

Eskanasi

Cox

Holland

Green

Scriven

Patel

Hull

Ideally Davey for Scriven if fit

We’ll have Ajaz to come in as well won’t we?

In his interview after the game on Foxes tv, Alfonso confirmed that Ajaz will be in the squad next weekend.

Good performance by the Under 18s in their opening friendly today, chasing down Notts' 286 with 21 balls to spare and the loss of only four wickets. Will Macdonald 72* (64) and Arun Kalsi 55 (73) both went past 50 with good contributions from Usman Minhas,  Academy Batter of the Year Ronak Rajeshekar and Joshua Parsons.

It's been a long time since we produced a specialist batsman from the academy...fingers crossed.

Can't think of anyone since Lewis Hill of any note. Aadil Ali Tom Wells  and the sex offender are the only others I can think of in the last 10 years surely must be others

Sam Evans?

Was far too slow but otherwise a reasonably solid opening bat. Not a world beater but that's a tough job, 3 tons in the 21 season but not much after that.

What happened to Jamie Dunk? The Scottish lad we had from last year? Seemed to be an opening bat who played for Scotland u19s.

He was in the Scotland A squad announced a couple weeks ago, his club was listed as Whitstable so assuming he's no longer linked with Leicestershire. Played a seconds game for Gloucestershire at the end of last season too so assume he was looking for a go there.

I wonder whether we should have persevered with him. He had the mentality and ability to bat for long periods as shown by 4 tons at county level. He only averaged about 28 I think but his real problem was scoring at snail pace, I just wonder that surely the batting coach could have worked on that and added more scoring shots to his game. Mind you could say the same about Hassan Azad.

Perhaps they tried and he just couldn't do it but players with the mentality to bat long are rare.

Azad fell off fast I felt.

Always be remembered for batting with Harry Swindells in the 50ov final 👏

He played for Northants in '23, not sure what he's done since, but he was someone who could probably earn a lot more outside of cricket.

Be interesting to see who turns out for the seconds. You have these lads who are too old for the under-18s but not ready for the first team yet. Jay Madan was very promising and Dean's son, Raiffe Headley.

Would love to see us look at Jamal Richards who was let go by Essex last season.Looked very useful the few times I've watched him.

He's gone to Jamaica with the aim of getting a West Indies call-up...

Wush him luck but he's no better than any seamer we have on our permanent staff.

Dujuan Richards might be available. Just needs game time.

Would take him over Mike and maybe Scriven

The value and problem with both of these is that it's not really clear whether either is a better batter or bowler. Though I think on both counts Scrivo is a more reliable option than Mike who with the ball will be almost unplayable very occasionally but spanked to all parts the rest of the time.

In D2 it worked well as it meant we always had a long tail, especially with Holland, Ahmed and Green also contributing with both bat and ball. But in D1 it remains to be seen whether it comes off.

D2 success was built on that long tail of all rounders and an aging middle order engine of Hill, Handscomb and Holland.

Right now it's hard to see where the quality in our side is to manage the step up I think.
