Pathetic showing against one of the weaker teams in the league. Gonna be a long season.

Yep, this does not bode well. Don't think filling the team with all rounders will work in Division One. Are Rehan and Holland really top 5 batsmen at this level? We've basically gone into this game with 4 specialist batsman, one of whom has got 2 ducks!

Rehan is, not sure about the rest. Honestly I feel Budinger has been harshly treated to be dropped for this game and I’m not his biggest fan. You can’t afford any passengers at this level.

the more I think about it, the more we should swallowed our pride and given Van Beek a call once Maharaj had dropped out. He hadn’t been signed by Yorkshire at that point.

Sussex must be wondering if this shower are genuinely better than the fella that less than 2 years ago, took Ollie Robinson for 43 in one over on the way to cracking 243 in only 127 balls against them.

911 runs at 43. Deserves a shot but he’s obviously not good enough for div.1 or else he’d already be at another county by now.

I suspect he has the ability, but not the self belief. A 4 ball pair will not help.

I was earlier about to say that that throw was amazing; can't really blame Patel there, but Holland's was a loose poor shot and that I couldn't see us batting all day tomorrow, but didn't press the right button. Now at 4 down, we'll be lucky to make it to lunch. Then again, it's what realistically we knew we were in for. Not sure if Sussex is one of the weaker teams though - they came 4th last year, and I can't see a 12 point deduction being a decider - they'll make that up against us this game! Last season was extraordinary compared to the past seasons where a win was a major cause for celebration. Most teams get relegated back down again, and I'm afraid I don't expect us to be the exception.

Had a chance to join Northants a few years ago when they were Div1

If you're banking on Hill as a specialist batsman at this level, you're going to struggle. Weatherald has started well but again, if he's your marquee player, that's trouble. Last year everyone contributed and that's why we did so well, but to ask everyone to chip in every game this year against much better opposition is a big ask.

They are well coached, have some good young players and Unadkat will be useful when he arrives. Our bowling attack was just not strong enough for this game, which in turn has put the batters under pressure. It's not a 350+ pitch. If we had bowled them out for 250 first innings, we would have been in the game, but we are basically trying to compete in this match with two bowlers who aren't at the required standard. Losing Handscomb, is a big blow as well; aside from his captaincy, he steadies the middle order if we lose early wickets.

I’d have to disagree with it not being a 350+ pitch historically it’s been a pitch which has produced a lot of runs.

Sussex all basically playing to put themselves in the shop window for other counties after their recent financial news.

Arguably not a worse time to play them, especially a full set of seamers down.

The decision to sign and play Singh looks rather odd. A fifth seam option? With the benefit of hindsight Trevaskis would have provided more variety with the ball and potentially sterner lower order resistance with the bat

No "potentially" about it, the lad can bat.

Crane showing against Yorkshire what can be done in early April at a club that backs spin. Time for us to embrace it more too, I think.

Agreed. It was a crazy decision to sign Singh, the pitch is offering a little turn and Trevaskis would of been more useful with bat and ball. The days of green seamers in April are long gone (unless the Groundsman is instructed to prepare one) and this pitch would of had about 4 weeks prep so was always going to offer a little turn and stay a little low.

Seems odd in retrospect. But I suppose the thinking is that they have 4 bowlers injured, all of whom would have played above Wood and Singh, but how long are they all out for and what if another bowler goes down injured this game, then we need cover. Not sure there was enough time to sign a bowler on loan, or whether other div 1 clubs will loan us players now we are in the same division. Worc have just loaned Hannon-Dalby, who would have been good for us, but that is div 1 to div 2.
