You have to acknowledge it will be a very tough match for us.

It will but also their bowling attack is as weak as it’ll be all season and they were poor v Warwickshire. If it’s a flat deck however, I think we’re playing for a draw from the start.

Are we excited or terrified at the prospect of visiting the Oval?!

Both. It’s like playing an international side. Probably 10 current internationals playing for them.

Will be interested to see who plays and whether Ahmed is in as a batter or Budinger if Hill is dropped. Surely you will play both overseas and won’t want two spinners at The Oval? Doubt Surrey will play one.

Don't think they will or should drop Hill because of one bad game

Totally agree...Hill was our top champ run scorer last season! Rishi needs the chop and replacing with Sol.

My team...and with this batting order...

Budinger, Weatherald, Ahmed, Eskinazi, Hill, Holland, Cox, Green, Ajaz, Scriven, Hull.

I would be surprised if either Lewis or Rishi were dropped after a single game (unless there's some serious issue) because it generally just doesn't happen if you take man management seriously.

That said, we can't be too indulgent, otherwise we could be looking at relegation even by mid-May.

At least we now have some top order competition (Budinger) and another middle order option (Tattersall), compared with previous years.

Weatherald was interviewed at The Oval yesterday by cricket journalist Adam Collin for The Final Word podcast (Spotify, Apple et.al.). Episode summary is below and also available as a video via YouTube. Interesting watch/listen.

"Season 20, Episode 3: We find the Australian Test opener at The Oval, where he’s set to play for Leicestershire against Surrey in the county championship – a gig he only found out he had a couple of weeks ago. It’s emblematic of the 31-year-old’s fascinating and unconventional career so far, which has taken the left-hander far and wide from his Northern Territory home, all in pursuit of his Test dream. Now realised, the Ashes-winning opener has been backed in with a national contract, endorsed as the man to walk out with Travis Head across a 12 month period as exciting and demanding as they come for the Australians, starting back where Jake grew up in the Top End in August. He’s quickly become one of the most popular figures in the team for his willingness to share so much of himself with the public, and he’s another top guest."

Fair. My short memory had completely forgotten that….. I stand by it though in the hope he now goes and hits a double century.

Ballsy call to put a team with their top 6 into bat.

No idea why we keep doing that especially when today seems like the best day for it weather wise.

Some good chat about him on the Surrey comms as well. Said his kit was in Hobart, so he had to hop over there first before flying to Heathrow and was indeed jet-lagged the first day against Sussex. Big Geelong fan apparently.
