What's the rules with these subs?

Saw Somerset made 2 subs and a few others have made changes too. Surely they can't all be result of injuries?

Players can be subbed out for a 'like-for-like' replacement during a game if they're injured, too sick to continue or if a 'life changing' event happens in their personal life.

Injury & sickness replacements have to be signed off by the Chief Medical Officer. Think the life changing event replacements have to be signed off by both teams CEO's.

The Somerset subs during this round were Smeed for TKC (TKC suffered a bad hand injury taking a slip catch on morning of Day 1) and Vaughan for Goldsworthy (Goldsworthy did his hamstring on Day 2 I believe).

Smeed wasn't in the squad that travelled to Essex either - he had to travel over from Wales as he as playing in the 2s Vs Cardiff Uni the 3 days previous.

Interesting trial by the ECB - few concerns about teams potentially exploiting it. Personally I like it.

With 18  Counties sides always have scope to blood young players. If your main argument is that OS players take up a place that could be given  to a young player why don't you have the same problem with sides playing guys pushing 40 who are also taking up a place of a young player

I've never liked Darren Stevens tbf.

We received little credit for providing England with Broad, Taylor, Gurney, Wright. We are here to put the best team together for our supporters.

Ask Broad how much Leicestershire gave him and he'll tell you Oakham gave him a lot more. It's not a Leicestershire thing per se but county crickets role in producing Test cricket is overstated in my opinion.

Cox has been an incredible signing, Mr Reliable for us.

To think a fair few (guilty myself) were questioning whether he was a worthwhile signing after Swindells' exploits in the Cup final.

Bloody hell you're cobbing some unpopular opinions about today! What's next, "Knock down the Friends of Grace Road's cake shop"? :D

My next suggestion is that Leicestershire take Smith on loan for the sake of the test team. He could bat 3 and keep.

I definitely appreciate your argument but I just disagree. I love watching England play and especially when we beat the Aussies and Indians BUT the success of the county championship is how it’s tied to the county identity. I am a Leicestershire fan first and foremost. Otherwise if we want a direct England pathway, we need another level in between county and international. County cricket is one of the big success stories and I think history shows us that having overseas players in the league makes it stronger which indirectly and directly makes the England team stronger.

Really nice to see that one we haven’t just folded away at the biggest club in the country after a massive total and two we’ve shown that we aren’t there to make up numbers.

Taylor came from Worcestershire academy

Not entirely the whole story.....was in the County young age groups before moving to Worcester private/boarding school before returning to us after A Levels

Broad does mention this in one of his books. We just saw him as a batsman believe Frank Hayes  at Oakham worked on his bowling

Played a few age group matches when he was 12\13 but was never in our academy.Decided to join us instead of Words because he rightly believed it would be easier to break into our side.

Played a lot more for Shrewsbury. It's part of the problem with the system. Look at most of the young county cricketers coming through and the vast majority will be from fee paying schools. I hope that changes over time and the counties invest more in it.

Gavin Griffiths sat with the Leicestershire faithful over the weekend.

If he's still around, has his spikes and we can rustle up some kit, we might concoct an accidental concussion to sub Hull out of the second innings? (only joking)
