Lennon leaving celtic

Forget Lennon, lets get Steve Corica back.

He's still going strong at the age of 35 and scored two cracking goals for Sydney tonight in the Asian Champions League

Lennon back here in whatever capacity? No thanks. Let's move on, not backwards.

the only way we could possibly go backwards was if the rumours on AJ and his advisors was false and that he was in fact in discussions about a new 3 year contract

Imagine this for going backwards:

Andy Johnson ahs today been unveiled as the new Player/Manager of Leicester City, signing a 10 year contract. He has brought in Rob Kelly as Director of Football. New Chairman, Milan Mandaric, has armed Johnson with a £5m war chest and he is expected to complete the double swwop for Craig Hignett and Steve Brooker later this week. City have also been linked with Trevor Benjamin and Steve Howey. Although a move for Benjamin is unlikey with Johnson revealing he is in talks to bring Graham Fenton out of retirement.

I would suicide bomb the press conference

The Trev coming back would be a shining beacon of hope. For at least getting some comedy value from the football. The rest of it would be painful.

If Lennon is available, it would be great to have him back, especially because like others, I'm not convinced on Wesolowski's ability to play a whole season.

The only question mark is Lennon's fitness. We all know how good he was in his prime and it would be a shame to spoil the memories of a great player.

It's not going backwards, he's still good enough to play in the Premiership.

If he comes back, then great if not then never mind. There's positives and negatives for him returning.

Lennon was a legend, Guppy was a legend we all know what happened when he came back. Why tarnish sweet sweet memories.

He is an all time great lets keep it that way. Id hate to sit here in 30 yars and say ohhhh lennon was one of our greats, and someone else posting yeah but when he came back he was crap.

Im sure he will make a top drawer manager 1 day but that day is not today or this week or next month.

I doubt CC PI etc would accept the leicester job without being allowed to bring their own back room staff in -hence not picking and mixing what we want (a bit of taggarts right arm, a bit of lennons head perhaps steve walshs left leg ect)

If lennon wanted to gain his coaching badges and asked the next manager nicely he may have a chance. to do it within a junior role here. Perhaps even taking a long shot he could be groomed ready to take over 1 day. IMO too many IFs and BUTs.

One of the greats while he was here, will be a top drawer manager one day. he is neither here or there at the moment. maybe in 3-5 years.

"one for the future"

Guppy came back when we were struggling in the Prem. Lennon would come back in the Championship. It would seem to me that Lennon would still have more than enough about him to play in the Championship.

Get him back in. We will need some experience to get out of this division, why not Lennon? although i imagine he will go to a premiership side so my post is kind of pointless.

Guppy was also told to leave Celtic Lennon was asked to stay and Captin the side, there really is no comaparison.

Yet someone still made it. Go figure.

Is that intended to be said with an american accent?. I like saying that phrase in a yank accent. Good post nibbles.

Would be a great signing if we could get him in. Still has it at the level he was recently playing at so hes definitly got another season in the championship.

Whether he would come or not though is a different question.

Seems exactly like an MM signing to me. He built the Pompey team around players that were old but could still do an excellent job in this division mixed in with some talent we'd never heard of...I expect much of the same for us and Lennon fits in perfectly.

It's possible to sign him for a year and then pay for his coaching qualifications or whatever but if we could convince him to come back and give us a season (possibly even two) then we should jump at the chance. I really can't see any reason why we wouldn't him, nothing said so far has convinced me otherwise. There is always the chance that he'll turn up and damage his legacy as one of our greats but I think it's a chance worth taking anyway. He has the ability to drive us on in this league, improve the attitude at the club, teach the younger players a few things and potentially then move into the coaching staff at some point.

Posted
You're probably right, there are bigger and better clubs than us that will be after him next season. I think he might be tempted with a role here though if it includes long term future after he's finished playing. He'd still piss this league and Wesolowski would learn a lot from him.

Can they play together? The move makes sense from every angle except that Weso needs games next year. A lot because if we ever get to the premiership in the next two years, we cannot rely for a whole season on a would be 36-7 year old.

I would go for player-coach role focusing on organising defensive frailties in our side. Besides his main value is the way he motivates players. The way he was helping over tired players against Milan to make an extra push is impressive.

Lennon would be a quality signing. He would be the experience that MM is looking for, who better to help weso in his career. I doubt either of them would be able to play a full season due to injuries. It maybe the step to help him onto a coaching role which would appeal to him. I dont think this is a step backwards but a sensible choice as he is still performing at a high level, unlike when we signed Keown.

I would not be surprised to see him heavily linked with us in the next few weeks and months.

The question is, do we go for him as player manager with an experienced Coach/Director of Football alongside him?

The possibilities are endless, but the fact is, he's still got what it takes at this level as a player.

Taggs/ Muzzy are both junior team caoches at the moment, I'd be suprised if was ahead of these two to be fair.

Taggs/ Muzzy/Walsh and lenny as a 4 man team would be the stuff of dreams.

But wortho is not the answer.
