Daggers Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 Yes and I'd like us to sign a fit fast striker thats good in the air and can finish but unfortuantely WE'RE ON A ****ING BUDGET! And doesn't that just knock the whole thread on the head then?
Thracian Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 Absolutely spot on.Neil Lennon is a classy, gritty performer. He's the kind of player where personal pride would not allow him to commit to playing at a level if he couldn't manage it... he really would not give less than 100%. Remember, this is a man who stood tall and played on at a fantastic level due to huge amounts of press attention/support/scrutiny/criticism over the sectarian issue. Look at some of the players playing in this division. For anyone to suggest that Neil Lennon could not play 30+ games and perform to his usual standard in this division, quite frankly is ridiculous as they have NOTHING to base it on other than their expectations/experiences of players of completely different type, nature, personality and calibre. Neil Lennon would not dissappoint. The intellect of a lot of LCFC fans however, does. It's funny how views of the Championship change. You're now being dismissive of the standard but these threads are full of people asking how kids will cope with the fierce and fast demands of the Championship. How convenient. No-one's criticising Lennon at his best anyway. The fact is he's way past his best and if you can't recognize that then look to your own intellect before you worry about others. I've seen enough this season of players who are not fit enough and I've seen exactly what it's cost us. I don't want to think of Lennon like that and I don't want our season to go down the pan because he's a true legend here and because no-one will want to criticise him or accept the truth.

As you well know it is all relative, compared to youth team/reserve and Confernce/League Two football Championship football is fast hard physical and demanding. Comapred to Champions League Football, it's poor.
Jimmy Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 hmm i wonder if lennie had come through our academy if he'd be so set against it?
Master Fox Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 Do you know what concerns me most? Those damn Sasquatch
Thracian Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 hmm i wonder if lennie had come through our academy if he'd be so set against it? Not if he was 20!
Ric Flair Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 Not if he was 20! At last you've admitted it. You only consider whether a player's good enough for us by their age. This is a massive breakthrough.

Jimmy Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 thrac just because he isn't in his 20's doesn't mean he is not 4 times the player weso is, weso has a lot of POTENTIAL but he has yet to have a full season under his belt, this time last year people were saying stearman would replace g nev for england with in a few years now look at him

I've always been a bit cooler on Stearman than some - and when you mention Gary Neville the "four times" might apply - but even I still think Stearman's wasted this season and with the right manager and the right coach will evolve to be a good attacking full-back when he matures and gets his head down again. Weso's fitness remains an issue without question but I've already remarked on that.

Neil Lennon isn't as good as when he first played for us. I agree. But we aren't as good as we were we he first played for us, and the division we are in isn't a good as when he first played for us. And I really can't see what you're basing the concern about fitness and lack there of on. They players we've had this season, unfit? Yes! Neil Lennon, unfit? Err. No. And why would he suddenly become unfit just because he's 35/36? Is Gary Speed unfit? Was Gary McAllister unift when he played for Liverpool? is Claude Makelele unfit? Is anybody over the age of 30 automatically and unfit waster? Seriously?

If you want to get Giggs here or Scholes or Gary Neville no problem. I haven't heard anyone say they've lost their legs or have slipped off the pace. Furthermore none of those have anything to lose as far as our club is concerned.

Fine, if we're just talking about Neil Lennon, some say he's lost his legs, some say he hasn't. From what I've seen of him this year, I wouldn't say he has, but I haven't seen every game he's played. Is he going to play 46 games if he did here? I doubt it. Is he going to be able to make a significant impact in a majority of games? I think so. As for him having something to lose... sentimentally is all lovely and good. Yes it would be a shame to tarnish the memory if it went badly, but frankly, if he could contribute to something succesful for our club, I wouldn't really give a crap if the player isn't quite as everyone remembers. I still haven't seen why Lennon wouldn't be able to make a very good contribution to a Leicester side next season. Apart from some Celtic fans think he's past it, and you think he's too old.
Blue Bob Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 I have to say I am amazed at some of the comments on this thread. Neil Lennon is quality - no arguement. If we want to be promoted to the premiership our side needs to be a blend of youth and experience. At present we have weso, porter and stearman who have some unrealised potential. They are no way near the finished article so need someone with experience who can assist them on the pitch and on the training ground. We need a leader on the pitch ,which we dont have at present, who can get players performing when the are having a crap game. I believe Neil Lennon could do that job. I agree that he is coming to the end of his career and he has lost a yard of pace, but his reading of the game is excellent as is his positional play. We are going to sign some older players whether you like it or not. So if we are, why not Neil Lennon? I would rather sign a former player who is likely to show more commitment to the club then just seek a final pay packet - e.g. Keown.

You're now being dismissive of the standard but these threads are full of people asking how kids will cope with the fierce and fast demands of the Championship. How convenient. Then some other bo llocks. I can't believe you're trying to turn a 'shall we bring back Neil Lennon thread' in to a 'let's play the academy, they're much better' thread again. Don't even try comparing Neil Lennon to say Andy King or Tommy Tejan-YourBoyfriend.

As an over 30 himself one has to wonder whether he realises the irony of this.
Louise Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 I love how we can argue for 9 pages (and counting) about something that is almost certainly never going to happen.
Lord Nibblington Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 I love how we can argue for 9 pages (and counting) about something that is almost certainly never going to happen. It's the principle of the thing! That and I'm busy trying to find other ways of not doing my work.
Zingari Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 I love how we can argue for 9 pages (and counting) about something that is almost certainly never going to happen. a bit like discussing who we would rather have in the sack; liz hurley or beyonce , but it doesn't stop us
The People's Hero Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 a bit like discussing who we would rather have in the sack; liz hurley or beyonce , but it doesn't stop us Errrrrrrr........ both!
The Reverend Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 I can see both sides. He's still got it. No question. But would he hamper weso's progress? I dont think so. Would he teach weso enough to turn him into a brilliant player? I think so. Even if it is just for a season. Then we can shift him into the coaching side of things.
Zingari Posted 26 April 2007 Posted 26 April 2007 wasn't lennon supposed to be prone to deppression or something , is he more likely to succumb to this when his playing career ends would we want him as a coach

That might be worth humouring were it not based on further evidence that you never let anything you quote get influenced by what was really written. You'd do better in politics than insurance. You'll be saying I'd turn down Liz Hurley next!

I've bought my friends Patsy Kensit and Heather Graham along as well for company!" Thrac: "Sorry love, I've got to sit on Foxestalk all night and fight Louis Dodds' corner, he's gonna be the next big thing you know!"
