BartonFox Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 I am curious as to what people's expectations are for the following season as there is a lot of stuff on threads that leaves me gobsmacked. Things from potential player lists (God love FM2007) to how we should play to what people think of our current mob listed or not. If you think back to when we last went up alongside Mandaric controled Portsmouth, there was a lot made about the money Pompey had spent on players, yet their outlay in transfer fees was fairly small. Mandaric's MO is to bring in good players for little outlay to other Club's and pay them bonuses etc... to get the job done. So all those wishing an Eastwood or Koumas may as well forget it. We may splash the odd bit here and there but in the main we'll do it on the cheap. Secondly, there are far too many people getting uptight at the prospect of our percieved style of play, if you think we are going to stroke it round like Ajax then you are sadly wrong. The CCC doesn't allow for that kind of football and to achieve it you would require highly skilled players; and they are not going to be wanting to ply there trade in the CCC. Despite being the 4th most popular league in Europe the standard of easy on the eye football is lacking. That said you can still play good football moving forward at pace and precision, bypassing the midfield only to bring them back in as you move higher up the field. Watch the promotion season again on DVD - Walker --> Deane/Benjamin/Scowcroft --> Dickov GOAL!!!! I'll have 70 of those this year no qualms. I will take a midtable 12th and above finish this season, safe by February and all that. Under Brian Little we had a rag tag bunch of misfits and 'who-are-they's' and we did with Martin O'Neill as well. I will gladly take a smidgen of that fight and will to battle as a foundation from season one. Total football and millions on players forget it, but the heart back in the Club and being a team no one really fancies playing, that'll do.
Flynny Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 I'd be relatively pleased with 12th, so long as at some point in the season we're above that and we have some hope of the play-offs throughout the season. If we're in the bottom half all year and win our last 3 games to go 12th, I might be a touch disappointed. 10th is my expectation, really. I don't really care how we go about playing football, so long as we score more goals than we concede for a change.
Matt Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Improvement. And lets face it to improve on the last few years it isn't exactly to much of a expectation or too much to ask is it? I have said give or take 1 or 2 places if we're not Top 10 i'll be disappointed, I know even though we have Milan we don't have that much to spend (If you beleive what you read on here that Milan is to spend 4million this year and 4million next year, I have not seen anything from Milan saying this but everyone seems to be reporting that fact when you read stuff on here) but with the funds availiable compared to the last few season 4 million is alot for us, With that fund availiable anything less that Top 10 (Give or take the odd posisition) i'll be disappointed. I don't expect us in promotion this season, I think thats beyond us at this stage and I think its abit OTT expecting that, but we need to be up there, just outside the playoff regions to be in with any shout of Milans 3 years plan.

Raj Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 IMHO next season i would settle for a mid table finish. More importantly i would like to see players who actually look like they care about LCFC and not just going through the motions. I want to see a manager on the toucline who goes through what we,the fans go through. I would like to see abit more attractive football BUT as long as results are half decent i would be happy. I don't expect to watch Arsenal type football with Chelsea type results! Oh..and full houses week in wek out would be nice too!
l444ry Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Very perceptive post Barton. You have described the reality of the situation very well. Nevertheless, the fringes of the play-offs is the minimum we should expect.
Bluefoxtim Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 I'll be happy if we are actually playing some decent football and have the play-offs in our sights...so top half
Mickey O'Neil Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Very happy with 10th +. This will be a huge improvement over last couple of years. Really go for it the year after...show some decent players/targets we mean business.
Jay Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 a team I can be proud of going to watch on a Saturday is all I really ask for and to bring back that hope and optimism that keeps us going anything else is a bonus as far as I am concerned

Spot on Barton The only thing i would say is about the age of players we seem to be getting in (well, just N'Gotty at ATM but it looks like De Zeeuw will be coming along with others). It looks like really we have to get as close to promotion as possible with the age of players (or potential players), because there arent a lot of experienced, good players out that are needed to get out of this division.
lookwhaticando Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Top 8 is my hope, top 12 is my expectation. Still, I'll settle for anything that doesn't involve relegation. I don't fancy another shaky last 15 games, looking over our shoulders all the time wondering where the next win will come from, doing the permutations and seeing which bunch of no-hopers around us are our best chance of survival. Give me safety, give it me quickly!

JoeyB Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Champions! Depending on the players we get in, 10th would be the lowest i would accept!
Unit Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 14th for some reason. Obviously 1st would be nice but I think this season will just be getting the team to gel and play well then the season after will be the big push, please prove me wrong.

I think we have the right manager to make the players 'gel' whereas before we never did. The last one was MON in fact.
Ben Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 Depends on what players we bring in. I think anything below mid-table would be an underachievement IMO. Hopefully we'll be able to make a push for the play-offs.

In 3 seasons time (Milans MAXIMUM time frame for promotion)virtually EVERY TEAM relegated from the prem will be BANKERS to go straight up (AND WILL), by virtue of the of the VASTLY superior teams and MASSIVE parachute payments. If LCFC want to even break into becoming a "YO YO CLUB" (Again) they need to go up next season or the following, I otherwise it will become virtually impossible, Derbys heroics will become as rare as hens teeth. So IMO we have a VERY SHORT TIME FRAME to acheive this. Given what I have just said & believe, I hope & pray for a top 6 finish and a scrambled entrance into the land of milk and honey.

volpeazzurro Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 This has been said loads of times before - but it doesnt work like that. They have the money, the have the Prem squads - but it doesnt always work like that. A good realistic post!!! I would like to be vying for the play-offs at some stage but would be happy with 10th. As has been said, it would mean the world to me personally if the players at least appeared to be trying their best, which in someways is the most you can ask. I walked out twicw last year including the last game. I'm not proud of it as as a general rule you should support your team through thick and thin, though perhaps not if they don't appear to care. The signings thus far are realistic and look very promising. Midfield is the main problem area though imo. After the end of season blues, I think I can start getting optomistic again!! Season ticket renewals on Monday!! Cheers.
ibbosuk Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 This has been said loads of times before - but it doesnt work like that. They have the money, the have the Prem squads - but it doesnt always work like that. Its been said because its true, as each season that passes its becoming more and more self evident. I.E. last season 2 out of 3 (very nearly 3 out of 3) and the other team spent around 5 million. Any team that bucks the trend and mucks it up will still have the parachute payments (and probably a new manager) the following season to push us even futher down the pecking order. We DESPERATELY need to go up just to make a game of it.

So one a year
Number 6 Posted 9 June 2007 Posted 9 June 2007 it is possible to play good passing football in the CCC, ask steve coppell
