Thracian Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Just to confirm that Louis Dodds will be joining Lincoln City on loan when his current injury clears up. The decision was his own choice. It also seems that Alan Sheehan, linked with a possible loan move to the same club, will be staying as the natural competitor to Joe Mattock for the left-back berth.

Good luck to Louis, im sure he'l bag a hatfull there and come back in January fully in contention for a first team place. Fingers crossed anyway
dandannieldanok Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 I would have thought this was with view to a permanent move.

Whoo Hoo!!! Let's Party!!!
Ric Flair Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Why on earth did we offer him a new 1 year deal this summer anyway? The club have hardly gone out of their way to give Dodds a chance in the first team, even when we've been extremely shit.
Geo V Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 So he refused the 1 year deal? If he is going there on loan, who is he attached to as I suppose he`ll be a free agent??!

Daggers Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 The decision was his own choice. Didn't he even ask his mummy her opinion?! The cad.
Hullfox Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 The decision was his own choice. Mmm. Might not the club's feelings about his future have contributed?
Blue Bob Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Good opportunity for him, better than rotting in the reserves!!
STUHILL Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Hopefully he will get fit again asap and play a big part each week so we can finally see whether he is as good as some ppl have made out in recent years! He isn't that young anymore either so if he can't sparkle for a team like Lincoln, then that will be case closed as far as I am concerned on his Leicester future. Good luck to the lad!

Bit worried at the prospect of that being true!! I though Mattock would be the one playing back-up to a new LB!! Puts a lot of pressure on Mattock to perform week in week out! Hopefully Sheehan will be able to step it up when called upon and Mattock can progress from last season and become consistantly good!
Thracian Posted 19 July 2007 Author Posted 19 July 2007 Mmm.Might not the club's feelings about his future have contributed? MA's comment at Kilworth Springs was that Dodds was left out of the Quorn/Oadby friendlies because of injury but had played well in a training game last time out. It is not made clear in the message I've got but as far as I know Dodds agreed his one-year deal at City and the Lincoln arrangement will be a loan. He's simply desperate for games and doesn't want to start a second season on the sidelines twiddling his thumbs or in the Reserves where he's already had plenty of success. Seems a sensible arrangement for everyone, however it ultimately develops. Allen clearly rates a biggish group of our youngsters. Whether he'll be skilled enough to use them enough to keep them happy we'll see. It's not just about Dodds. There's McKay, Chambers, King and Odhiambo waiting in the wings as well but none of those have played a lot of reserves football so that's where I expect to see them. However MA did mention loans and only said that he wouldn't send anyone out anywhere where they wouldn't be looked after properly.

WIth a side\club so eager for quick success\promotion, there will be an issue of how city will nurture the youngsters and fringe players with limited oppportunites offered to them!!!! Good on Dodds, it's a good level for him to play at!!

I wouldn't want to assume there's no chance of a further signing but MA seems to have involved both Sheehan and Beswick in his pre-season thinking and I'm not sure there are lots of decent attacking left-backs alternatives available anyway. Both will be a bonus to him if they can retain their form and, with a proper reserves programme this season, neither should be in danger of losing their match fitness.

If he doesn't want to spend a season 'twiddling his thumbs' then he doesn't have to regardless of where he is employed. He could always spend extra time training/in the gym/improving his game. I hope it was your clumsy phrase rather than his words, otherwise I seriously doubt he has the self-discipline or motivation to make it.

Anything else would seem like you were twiddling your thumbs

I'm sure he'll be really grateful for that advice.
The People's Hero Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 What an inspiration you are. I'm sure he'll be really grateful for that advice. It wasn't advice and I wasn't trying to be inspirational. Unlike you, not everyone feels the need for every post to be a jumped up, self-important, senseless piece of propaganda or an unsolicited piece of unhelpful and probably ill-founded advice. Put it this way - if a post appeared about Matty Fryatt being frustrated by twiddling his thumbs, I guarantee you'd come back with a vicious, acerbic tirade of abuse for the man. Probably containing all the 'advice' which I managed in a succinct and brief statement following your previous post. You're a joke.

Jonbluefox9 Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 If this is true and he does go out on loan to Lincoln City then he'll have to produce the goods. We've got DJ Campbell, Iain Hume, Carl Cort, Matty Fryatt, Mark de Vries and Elvis Hammond who've all scored goals at Championship level. Dodds hasn't been given the chance to show what he can do at that level yet but if he doesn't show much promise at Lincoln then that'll be it for him at Leicester City. We've got strikers coming through who have shown as much promise at under 18 level as he did when he was eligible for that age group but players like Mckay, Chambers and Odhiambo have a bit more time to push on another couple of levels but Dodds hasn't.
