Simi Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Where have they found 6 million from?! Something to do with the new TV deal I'm guessing?
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Hi Birmingham Fan here. Just wanted to come and say good luck to DJC we wish him all the best, and I think I speak for must of us bluenoses when I say that. You have got yourself an absolute steal at £1.6M his goalscoring ability is top notch, he's VERY quick, can run with the ball finishes his chances, and absolutely puts more than 130% effort in. He loved it at blues and I'm sure he will for you. My favourite player, and many other's favourite player too. Anyway best of luck, and goodbye DJ How come he started so rarely if this is the case? I know you have alot of strikers but all this talk of him being worth six million in a few years and being the fans faviourate player suggested he should of been the first name on the team sheet.
1LoveridgeC Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 TV Carson Yeung's New board coming in, supposedly

Poor manager, went with the bigger name strikers??
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Fair enough. I'd be happy with 30-35 goals between the two of them this season.Every player at this level has their negative points, even for £1.5-2m. Look at Nugent and Chopra's prices, even allowing for age they are crazy these days for strikers. Earnshaw at £3.5m was seen as good business in comparison but he's hardly pulled up trees at Premiership level. When the dust settles, I think we'll have come out of this quite well and will have a real asset on our hands. Fingers crossed anyway. This is it though, Hume 750k good business, Dudley 2.1 million not good business thats is all I am saying, we still have gaping holes in our squad and team if we have the money to sort it out fair enough but I don't like to think thats the majority of our kitty gone.
STUHILL Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 OK Im trying to get my head around this deal without thinking too much about the fee! DJ always has looked a handful whenever I have seen him on SS and I am sure he will be a livewire striker who can score plenty of goals as long as he has a creative midfield behind him to utilize his pace and a big forward to take the knocks and flick the ball on to him. Im delighted he has signed but cant believe we have paid more than Wolves paid for Freddie Eastwood but that is my personal opinion who is a better player but we must trust MA who has seen him close up and every time he played for Birmingham he hasn't let them done in the short while he has been there. I think his stats are something like 13 goals in 20 starts but I haven't checked how many sub appearances were thrown in etc.I suppose he will be a guaranteed starter come game one this season and I cant see him lining up with Hume. I'm not too sure who the target man will be to line up alongside him will be but will probably plump for Carl Cort if he is fit or maybe Matty Fryatt if he isn't sold on. Its a good signing but many may be apprehensive because we haven't seen that much of him but I am sure he will soon become a hero for us in time. I can't see how we would be leaving Hume out, he is one of our better players and with the right service could be better than DJ. I understand the problem of two short guys up front but Thracian is right, we don't always need a target man to be successful. I just can't see Cort cermenting a regular starting place. I see him as a striker to throw on to mix it up a bit. I would prefer Fryatt over Cort too. Would still like to see another striking option but perhaps we should focus more on other areas now, like LB and L midfield or even a creative midfielder.

I know you have alot of strikers but all this talk of him being worth six million in a few years and being the fans faviourate player suggested he should of been the first name on the team sheet.Cameron Jerome, and Nicklas Bendtner. Jerome is 6 years the younger. More powerful and more prosperous.Bendtner also 6 years younger, is in Arsene Wenger's plans for this coming season. He's that good. This is it though, Hume 750k good business, Dudley 2.1 million not good business thats is all I am saying, we still have gaping holes in our squad and team if we have the money to sort it out fair enough but I don't like to think thats the majority of our kitty gone. You'll soon find out it's extremely good business

I can understand that, I'm concerned about the left side, but only relatively speaking. At the worst we go into it with Mattock and Porter as first choice, two players who a lot of people were happy with last season.

Althugh Babylon will probabley tell you different when he gets hold of his goal scoring record, or the "FACTS!!!!!" as he likes to call them. Jerome didn't start that many games did he? Any news on Bruces plans for Rowan Vine? Very odd buy. What do you reckon to N'Gotty/Clemance.

Bluefoxtim Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 This is it though, Hume 750k good business, Dudley 2.1 million not good business thats is all I am saying, we still have gaping holes in our squad and team if we have the money to sort it out fair enough but I don't like to think thats the majority of our kitty gone. We bought Hume for 750k when he was playing for Tranmere in league 1 and was not exactly setting the world alight with his goal scoring record. The price is not £2.1 million. If we get promoted, that extra 500k or whatever it is will seem insignificent.
He's not bald Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Oh buh buh buh, Manwell has an opinion and dares to voice it. Lets make him out to be big headed. .....obviously I didn't actually mean you never watch football, you seem to have taken this to heart so I should probabley explain that I was having a dig at your stats and facts attitude towards the whole thing (as well as everyone elses, especiallly of late it's goals per minute, goals per start, clean sheets minutes on pitch etc) instead of implying that you never watch football. Although I can see how is might of been taken the wrong way. Dennis Bergkamp managed only 11 goals in 52 games for Inter, Eric Cantona only managed 23 in 81 outings for Auxerre, Luca Toni managed 7 in 32 apperances for Modena in the Italian lower leagues, precious DJ managed 3 in 25 for Stevenage borough FFS. He has less pace then people think IMO as he is often used as a sub, he over runs the ball alot and does miss some absloute sitters and can be easy to mark out of a game if a manager sets out a decent plan, sometimes he plays with his head down to much not seeing a decent oppurtunity to set someone free. He's like Ian Hume with a tad more pace without the abilty to shoot from 20-30 yards. I think sometimes we all miss the point here, stats are all very well but they are all based on playing in another team with other formations/tactics etc,we don't know how MA will finally use what he has (I doubt at this point he doe's completely) so until we see how well certain players work within the team and adapt to the roll and support/service (or lack of) from their teamates it's impossible to predict how many goals they will score or assist in,passes the will complete, tackles they will make,we could debate stats from now until Christmas but one things for sure, there will be players that surprise us as well as those who turn out to be a big disappointment.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 The price is not £2.1 million. If we get promoted, that extra 500k or whatever it is will seem insignificent. True, if we got promoted I couldn't give a crap how much we owed them.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I don't think you need to read too much into DJC not getting more games last season. Bruce seemed to have the Warnock approach to strikers, throwing cash at them left, right and centre to make sure he kept it fresh and they could just pick the most in-form at any one point. Vine was a weird buy but he scored one crucial goal and now they're in the Premiership they could easily take a £1m loss on him and it would have all been worth it for that goal, ridiculous but that's the way it is in our division these days. I can see Wolves/Charlton/Sheff Utd doing a similar thing this season.
1LoveridgeC Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I'll believe Bendtner is good enough to be a regualr starter for Arsenal when I see it Good little player still young definately Prem quality but I don't know about top four. Viney, well he appears to have been a panic buy. But he has been forced to play out of position mostly for us, scored a very good goal against Derby which without that goal, we would not have been promoted so we can't complain too much N'Gotty- pretty poor. Quite slow, not brilliant at all, but to be fair he spent most of his time for us at right back. Clem- very good signing. Not prem quality but, he basically got us promoted single handedly, an excellent captain, and I wish him all the best.
scrivins2 Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 yay DJ is here to stay, well at least 4 years will fowler be the next move

Actually it was 500k up front, he was being farmed out to the wing quite alot so therefore not scoreing that many, and was always thought of as one of League ones most promising players. It was a clever buy. One will certainly make a profit on I would think.

We will in todays climate, if we were buying him and Fryatt now rather than a couple of years ago you'd be quoted about £1.5m each.
Geo V Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 yay DJ is here to stay, well at least 4 yearswill fowler be the next move I`ll be shocked to see RF turn up now. It`ll be easier for him to make the Cardiff side now Chopra has gone.
