Ric Flair Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Harsh... he scored 12 last year and benji scored 13 in his whole city career. But Benjamin did get 9 in something like 20+ starts the season we got promoted. (that might need checking actually, but his name sprung to mind when we got linked with DJ)

Simi Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 DJ was a none league player come good. If he hadn't scored in a high profile cup game he'd still be at Brentford. He's barely scored more league goals than Elvis. DJ Campbell 83 goals in 109 appearances at Yeading 12 goals in 22 for Brentford 12 goals in 24 for Birmingham Hammond scored 8 league goals for us in 31.

I also see a smidgen of Elvis Hammond in DJ Campbell though, thankfully Campbell is slightly more composed in front of goal though.

Very good record, I hope he gets more starts here than he did at Brum, potential for 20+ with service.

I will be disappointed if fryatt goes becuase i still think he is a promising prospect. Get rid of elvis and deep freeze! You're right ther. I also see a smidgen of Elvis Hammond in DJ Campbell though, thankfully Campbell is slightly more composed in front of goal though. And has a better first touch
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 I know there is more to the bloody argument but they are the FACTS!!!!!! They are worth more than just my bloody opinion on it. You know nothing about me, what I do or what football I watch but you have decided your opinion is worth more than 99.9% of the people on here when you know nothing about us. They are manipulated and dressed up to suit your arguement Thracian style (Eg Billy Sharp having a worse goal scoreing record then DJ Campbell, having played all of two games) which gives away plenty about your opinion on the subject, and you've not added anything else to them which you would of done if you'd know alot about the subject, and there are more important things than goalscoreing records for strikers whether or they are FACTS or not, but so far that is all you've put forward.
Babylon Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 You're right ther. I also see a smidgen of Elvis Hammond in DJ Campbell though, thankfully Campbell is slightly more composed in front of goal though. Which is what makes me quite positive about him, how many times have people said if he could finish and could stay on side he would be a good player.
stulcfc Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 tbh im happy with this i just hope we keep fryatt aswell and maybe do the old roatation with the strikers like brum did last session wels just wait and see but if fryatt did go i would be pissed off even if we did get a decent price we dont realy need to money if he scores a bag load next session he will pay for himself wasnt the best session for him last session but that was mainley down to injury if we keep hold of him i think n hope he will shine
Thracian Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Important signing as far as our having a chance of scoring enough goals is concerned so +1 (Total +17).
dandannieldanok Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Important signing as far as our having a chance of scoring enough goals is concerned so +1 (Total +17). At this rate I can see Allen finishing on over 100 points by the end of the season.

I'm not dressing them up to suit my argument i'm using them to disprove your opinion that they are definitely better players!!!! I've not seen you say much apart from the fact "he isn't worth that" so that to me says plenty about your opinion on the subject. What do you want me to add, shall I talk about his pace? His finishing? His quick reactions? The fact every brum fan I spoke to about him sang his praises. But lets forget it, you watch more football than anyone else, your opinion is more valid than everyone else, you know each player inside out and sit watching videos of them through the night. Manwell is right everyone, he's rubbish and not worth is.
lildave3 Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Pleased with this tbh, especiallythe fact the fee is spread over 2 years, good deal imo.
Geo V Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 OK Im trying to get my head around this deal without thinking too much about the fee! DJ always has looked a handful whenever I have seen him on SS and I am sure he will be a livewire striker who can score plenty of goals as long as he has a creative midfield behind him to utilize his pace and a big forward to take the knocks and flick the ball on to him. Im delighted he has signed but cant believe we have paid more than Wolves paid for Freddie Eastwood but that is my personal opinion who is a better player but we must trust MA who has seen him close up and every time he played for Birmingham he hasn't let them done in the short while he has been there. I think his stats are something like 13 goals in 20 starts but I haven't checked how many sub appearances were thrown in etc. I suppose he will be a guaranteed starter come game one this season and I cant see him lining up with Hume. I'm not too sure who the target man will be to line up alongside him will be but will probably plump for Carl Cort if he is fit or maybe Matty Fryatt if he isn't sold on. Its a good signing but many may be apprehensive because we haven't seen that much of him but I am sure he will soon become a hero for us in time.

Some teams no longer play target men as such but rely on things like speed, mobility and fast passing. With the players we've got now - including Cort - Allen's at least got some choices. I still wouldn't be surprised if we pull in another striker and sell Fryatt for all sorts of reasons. Especially as he's starting the last season of his current contract if memory serves.
Daggers Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Can I just say again we have only payed £1.6 million Can I just say - Leeds can't afford to pay any of their squad?
Simi Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Can I just say - Leeds can't afford to pay any of their squad?    I saw that on SSN, they couldn't pay their players wages for June.

Manwell is right everyone, he's rubbish and not worth is. Oh buh buh buh, Manwell has an opinion and dares to voice it. Lets make him out to be big headed. .....obviously I didn't actually mean you never watch football, you seem to have taken this to heart so I should probabley explain that I was having a dig at your stats and facts attitude towards the whole thing (as well as everyone elses, especiallly of late it's goals per minute, goals per start, clean sheets minutes on pitch etc) instead of implying that you never watch football. Although I can see how is might of been taken the wrong way. Dennis Bergkamp managed only 11 goals in 52 games for Inter, Eric Cantona only managed 23 in 81 outings for Auxerre, Luca Toni managed 7 in 32 apperances for Modena in the Italian lower leagues, precious DJ managed 3 in 25 for Stevenage borough FFS. He has less pace then people think IMO as he is often used as a sub, he over runs the ball alot and does miss some absloute sitters and can be easy to mark out of a game if a manager sets out a decent plan, sometimes he plays with his head down to much not seeing a decent oppurtunity to set someone free. He's like Ian Hume with a tad more pace without the abilty to shoot from 20-30 yards.
1LoveridgeC Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Hi Birmingham Fan here. Just wanted to come and say good luck to DJC we wish him all the best, and I think I speak for must of us bluenoses when I say that. You have got yourself an absolute steal at £1.6M his goalscoring ability is top notch, he's VERY quick, can run with the ball finishes his chances, and absolutely puts more than 130% effort in. He loved it at blues and I'm sure he will for you. My favourite player, and many other's favourite player too. Anyway best of luck, and goodbye DJ

Especially as he's starting the last season of his current contract if memory serves. Im not saying that the partnership wont work, just that Im making an educated guess based on MA`s previous management history and the way his teams usually set-up. Time will tell if we go for this option, BTW, I see Brentford have earned out of this too due to a sell on clause. No figures discussed but this was from there official OS. BEES WINDFALL Brentford Football Club are delighted to hear the news that former Bee DJ Campbell has agreed a move to Leicester City, where he joins up with Martin Allen who first brought him to Griffin Park. On a personal note we are pleased for the player who was very popular with the crowd during his short stay here. Also, from a financial perspective, the Club are obviously delighted that this should deliver a much needed windfall, based upon the sell on clause that was originally negotiated between ourselves and Birmingham City. With regard to any affect upon our Budget for the Season, provision has already been made for 'exceptional income'. Therefore such windfalls have already been anticipated and included in our considerations for how funds may best be utilised within our overall Budget. So, it does not simply mean that the sum available for the playing budget is immediately bolstered. In fact, like all other League 2 Football Clubs, the key restriction here is that we must work to is keep playing squad costs lower than or equivalent to a maximum of 60% of our turnover. Simply said, this means that even if a Club sells a player for millions, they could not simply spend it back on playing squad.

1LoveridgeC Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 You happy with getting Mido as a replacement? Well yes, but for 4 times the price, on his day Mido is far superior player. Hey, thats the premiership for you.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 He's like Ian Hume with a tad more pace without the abilty to shoot from 20-30 yards. Fair enough. I'd be happy with 30-35 goals between the two of them this season. Every player at this level has their negative points, even for £1.5-2m. Look at Nugent and Chopra's prices, even allowing for age they are crazy these days for strikers. Earnshaw at £3.5m was seen as good business in comparison but he's hardly pulled up trees at Premiership level. When the dust settles, I think we'll have come out of this quite well and will have a real asset on our hands. Fingers crossed anyway.
