Father Ted Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 On SkySports Martin Allen was asked whether more signings would be on there way. He replied: I've got a meeting with the chairman on Monday, he's been very supportive. There may still be some more signings.* This could mean that there could be more players on there way and may be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday * Not exact words

We still need a creative midfielder and maybe a right-back. MDV looks like he has won over MA so the urgency for a target man up front doesn't seem to be there but looking at the way that MF seems to play in the lower profile games, I still think that he will be punted out this week and maybe a replacement will be needed for him.
martinrowland Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 this is good hopefully he makes the right signings and they dont end up crap

We need a right back????????????? Is stearman, Maybury, Kaebi, Kenton with N'Gotty and Kishishev who have also played their not enough for you?

A right back, but no mention of a left back. As Babylon says, we have enough right backs as it is. I can't see us making as many as 4 signings next week, especially this close to the start of the season. But we shall have to wait and see I suppose.
Thracian Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 We've got to be careful to concentrate on quality not quantity. Any manager can sign footballers. But what we need is people who are categorically better than what we have depending on how MA intends to play.
Tommeh Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 Can maybe see 1 coming in this week. Then maybe a coulpe of loans once the window is shut depending on what positions we're struggling in. Must admit after yesterday I'm confident in starting the season with what we've currently got.
Isopen Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 We are short of players on the left especially if Mattock has an injury problem. Chambers did ok again yesterday, but still reckon a left footed left back is required. Prefer Chambers to be RB

Prefer Chambers to be RB I don't think Mattock is normally injury prone. But if his hip injury is in any way serious there's not much available apart from Sheehan and Beswick so we would definitely need someone else. However, Sheehan's record in first or open team matches including League, Cup and friendly fixtures, is quite reassuring if undoubtedly flattering.

This hip problem that Mattock seems to have is reoccurring from last season is it not? If that's the case, I hope he doesn't have to end up with him having an operation, that would be a blow to us, especially if we haven't brought in any back up.
David Guiza Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 left back unsworth maybe wide player hopefully ethrington but cant see it happening and maybe a forward like carlton cole or daniel sturidge on loan
teblin Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 If nothing else we need a left back, play chambers at right back. Stearman was poor yesterday.
Daggers Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 left back unsworth maybe *glove slap* *pauses for thought for a second* *delivers second, even harder glove slap*
DB11 Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 Our main priority is surely a left back? Then a creative midfielder then a target man. That's what order I think anyway
Tommeh Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 If we sign another striker I'll curse. We can't decide between DJ, Hume and MDV and seem to be forgetting Fraytt and Cort.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 We need a new left-back, definitely! And possibly also a left-sided midfielder.
BartonFox Posted 5 August 2007 Posted 5 August 2007 We need a new left-back, definitely! And possibly also a left-sided midfielder. Desperate for both and a keeper. Disappointed we are in the final week of preperation and we are still woefully inpet in those 3 departments (Mattock excluded).

Thracian Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Desperate for both and a keeper. Disappointed we are in the final week of preperation and we are still woefully inpet in those 3 departments (Mattock excluded). I don't understand this "desperate" for a keeper thing. Logan's looked fine to me - in fact more commanding and vociferous than last season - and hasn't conceded a goal in pre-season as I recall despite most of the time being invested on Nielsen actually getting the shirt. Yes we could improve on our goalkeepers, it's a given for any position, but neither Logan nor Henderson are expecially likely to let us down and even Nielsen might settle to be reasonably capable. We certainly need a left-back. Sheehan is the obvious number one at the moment and has done fine in general - featuring in far more attacks than ever Mattock has done so far. Defensively we've also been sound when he's played although he's not yet been tested seriously enough against quality opposition. As for Mattock, depsite the constant praising of him which I've always said is a little premature, he's been a bit disappointing to me - not quite his efforvescent self and not involved in anything that particularly comes to mind. Perhaps his hip injury has been a factor all along and, if so, it is far more important to get it right than to keep pushing him when he's not fit.

I just can't help thinking if sheehan was that good he would have played more often.
TheBlinding Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Exactly, if MA thought he had a half decent left back in Sheenan i'm sure he wouldn't try and play a right back there. He even preferred to have Rowe-Turner as back up rather than Sheenan.

He even preferred to have Rowe-Turner as back up rather than Sheenan. Nonsense. Sheehan played for 77 minutes against Cheltenham. MA has been determined to give his full squad match time and , with Mattock's problem doubltess in his mind, would not be wanting to risk overplaying our last specialist left back, if we accept that Beswick is too inexperienced in the position.
Candidcamera Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Lets really shake some life into the supporters and try for Heskey.
Ric Flair Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Lets really shake some life into the supporters and try for Heskey. Unreal.
