Monk Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Look at this high quality show of defending (think it only works in the UK). There's some really tight man marking going on http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/c...1118262,00.html Also Megson's post match comments (From OS). At least he's frank about it and doesnt talk in third person: Gary Megson said defensive errors cost his side dear following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic at the Valley. First half goals from Chris Iwelumo and Luke Varney were enough on the day to gain all three points for the home side. And speaking at the post-match press conference, Megson confirmed that his team would need to 'smarten up' if they were to progress. No Shit He said: "We have got to make sure that we start games properly to give ourselves a chance of getting results. Today we didn't do that. "We started off ok - nice and neat in possession without any great penetration. We had three or four shots that were all from distance. Stephen Clemence hit one that went just past the post, but we didn't cause them enough problems up front. "Once the game settled down a little bit we became too easy to play against. It would be nice to be able to score the type of goals that Charlton were gifted. The defending was really poor - not just on those two occasions but maybe three or four. "It's not about what you say it's about what you do about it. I am looking at the goals that we have given away so far in the eight days that we have been here and they are really poor goals. There have been times today when we have got away with it - certainly in the first half. We were at sixes and sevens in an area where you have to be strong and physical. "The throw that Charlton chucked in wasn't a particularly long one for the first goal, but somehow we have got a player who is facing the wrong way who heads it into our box on Charlton's behalf. That was a pathetic goal for us to give away. "For the second the ball was chipped in and we have got two players going for the same ball. Neither of them could sort it out and it drops down to Varney who shins it in from five yards. "People are going to have to work a lot harder to score against us. In the second half I felt that the introduction of Bruno helped THEN WHY DIDNT HE START!!!. We got a big body in the middle of the goal and I thought that we looked better - without everybody firing on all cylinders. "We had many defensive players in positions that they are not used to. We have got to get away from the fact that the football club isn't there for their benefit - it's the other way round for all of us. We have got to work for Leicester rather than it being a nice place to come. "We looked more solid and at times we looked better going forward in the second half. We need to settle down in certain areas - smarten up and be a lot tougher and proactive when it comes to defending. You have got to be there first. "I'm not sure that Charlton had a shot in the second half, but in the first half we chucked the game away."
The People's Hero Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Looked better going forward in the second half? Boll ocks did we! Megson - you're a twat.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 McAuley for the first. Kisnorbo for the second. Both utterly disgraceful and I can't imagine you'd ever find Bruno N'Gotty making decisions that bad.
Milky Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 The annoying commentator just made that even worse to watch.
Koke Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 McAuley for the first.Kisnorbo for the second. Both utterly disgraceful and I can't imagine you'd ever find Bruno N'Gotty making decisions that bad. In all fairness, the pair of them have had far more good games than bad games.
Ozwin Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Bloody hell, we lost to two shitty goals? Which could have been avoided? Damn, we could've drew it
mancunianfox Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 "We have got to get away from the fact that the football club isn't there for their benefit - it's the other way round for all of us. We have got to work for Leicester rather than it being a nice place to come." I definately agree with that. If rumours are to be believed the players have not been happy under Worthington, Allen or Megson. They need to start to get their heads down and work hard and stop throwing their toys out of the pram whenever anyone wants them to get some hard work done. It seems increasingly to me like our poor performances are due to a group of players who are the problem as opposed to it being entirely the fault of the manager.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 In all fairness, the pair of them have had far more good games than bad games. It's just that when you are sitting there watching that kind of decision-making (I was in the corner right by where the two goals came from), particularly Kisnorbo backpedalling into McAuley to try and clear the ball for their second, you wonder whether they are actually good Championship defenders. Why we have someone who has played for AC Milan on the bench when our starting centre-backs have had careers either at Lincoln City in the fourth division or as a backup utility player with Hearts. Yes, they have progressed since those days but how much? For me, they've never been part of a good team at this level whereas N'Gotty has been part of many far better teams.

Yeah But Kalac played for AC Milan and do you rate him?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 YeahBut Kalac played for AC Milan and do you rate him? He's better now than he was when he played for us.
Daggers Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 "We have got to get away from the fact that the football club isn't there for their benefit - it's the other way round for all of us. Why aren't the players that are dicking about been fined? Why aren't the ones who will never play for us again and no one will buy not been told to sod off and never darken the training ground again? Grr.
davieG Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Our defence prior to saturday was the 2nd best in the league and is still second equals, admittedly we still have problem keeping clean sheets GM dropped N'Gotty Our problem is we don't score enough goals, 5th worse in the division. Where are GM's comments about the lack of activity up front? He was the one that dropped DJ & MDV and substituted Hume the only forwards to score thus far.

Obviously you're bang on about the lack of goals. But that is a bit irrelavant, the defending on Saturday was piss poor end of. We were never going to score three goals at the Valley.
Daggers Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Becuase when Megson gets the boot in 5 weeks the next manager might decide he wants them. Megson is truly the Fryatt of the backroom staff
Koke Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 Megson is truly the Fryatt of the backroom staff Please dont start that

Agree, that was just to put the defending against the lack of goals into context, the defending could be construed as a blip where as a lack of scoring ability has never improved. So as I said where were his comments about our inability to score or even look like scoring one

Kisnorbo and McAuley are good enough for this league, no doubt about that. They've produced brilliant performances time after time. But that is no excuse to the poor display on Saturday. You could argue that N'Gotty should replace one of them and maybe he should.. I see where you coming from though. Our problem right now is the lack of goals up front as davie G pointed out.
demon_dog Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 First time I've seen the goals. What absolutely Shit defending, Megson is right, c'mon Taggart sort them out.
Unit Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 I know this is a bit off topic but how gay is their first celebration? "come here and giv'uzz a kiss! MWAH"
Lillehamring Posted 24 September 2007 Posted 24 September 2007 can someone put the goals on youtube or similar - i'm sick, i know, but i wanna see how bad it was...
