Exactly, it's the equivalent of a safe bet that very rarely get's you big profits but can quite easily backfire.

If you concede a goal or heaven forbid two, then it's game over under Megson's style. I can understand the need to have a tight defence and keeping clean sheets is very refreshing and rewarding, but you need some attackers and more than a token midfielder to win convincingly.

Agreed.

But even George Graham at Arsenal were defensive biased and it didn't do them any harm.

Although it could be argued that their strikers were more prolific than ours currently.

Not meaning to moan but our Alan, like Kaebi played 90 minutes for the Reserves on Monday, yet he (and Kenton) was selected and did play a part in the last 25 minutes. Whilst it was a great result, we are all too used to the team only bothering to perform to the required standards in cup games.

I saw Megson laughing and joking with Maybury during his first training session and feared the worst, he better not be picked ahead of Kaebi just because of his involvement tonight, especially as wing back would suit him down to the ground. It's rather worrying if these pair have somehow moved ahead of Kaebi in the pecking order.

well noted but that in turn could work against them for the stoke game on saturday... as Megson said

" the biggest worry i have now is how much it has taken out of us ahead of the stoke game"

I think football has moved on from the 1-0 smash and grab style, with the unpredictability of teams and players in the league, the odds are that the offence will score even with alittle help from lapse refeering, which inevitably as you say is game over under Megson's style!!!

Exactly. Having 1 oe 2 upfront with no support from midfield is just as hard to break through as it is for the opposition who have at least 2 upfront and more attacking outlets trying to break through a 5+ man defence. If Megson is going to play 5 at the back, which I kind of think he should, then we must have some box to box midfielders who can provide creativity to our attackers. I'm confident that Mattock and either Chambers, Stearman or Kaebi can attack when needed as well.

Someone like Neil Danns would be a great loan signing if we could get him, or Jonathan Douglas from Leeds. The sort who can defend and attack in equal measure from midfield and can score.

We need a little bit more craft in midfield. Clemence is awesome, but he need a creative foil along side him.

Like when MON used to play it.

We had lennon who kept it ticking over

Savage who ran around like a headless chicken.

izzet who provided the creativity

We have clemence who can do lennons role and savages to some extent.

We have weso (when fit) who can do the running aroung getting stuck in role.

As can Kishichev (excuse the spelling)

But we don't really have the other one who can change a game.

I have to agree, the system will only work if the team can go from defence to attack in the shortest possible time with added quality, aswell as 'box to box' players, pace will also be a major factor especially from the flanks. If there was a team to act as a role model the o'neil city team would be a good one, we were very good at turning defence into attack very quickly!!

i'd love to see kaebi involved however, it begs the question

surely if he was that good and impressing everyone in training and in the reserves he'd be in the team then wouldn't he????

To be fair to Megson, I think his team at WBA relied on pace from certain outlets. So i'm sure he's aware of that and he's dealing with it in the best we he knows and can. It's not the way i'd go about it, but it's another chapter in supporting Leicester. Sadly, it feels like this chapter will be dictated to me and there will be not a lot of pleasure in it.

Hmmmmmmm, sad but true!!!

Megson was infamous for 1-0 wins with WBA, Derby went up with quite a few last season. I would personally happily pay to watch one nil wins if that means promotion.

The problem is that teams that play defensively in the Championship go up with lots of 1-0 wins rarely stay up. In Megsons defense he did start the game with seven defenders (eight including Fulop) but in this case it was the right choice. It doesn't mean he will play like that every match. There was no way we would have scored a hatful of goals against Villa so he came up with a gameplan and won. I am fine with 5-3-2 as an away tactic to be used against good teams who are strong at home....I just hope that it doesn't become our only tactic, and I am confident that it won't.

He also had koumas.

I'd have liked to have seen his explanations if we'd gone 1-0 down early on and how he'd have gone about taking the game to Aston Villa. With only one attacking outlet on the bench, we'd have been screwed. Luckily it's paid off again like it did against Forest. But it didn't work at Charlton last Saturday and the fans were livid. It's something to bare in mind, because as far as I can see, the way Megson goes about things, when we lose the fans will naturally be disgusted due to the negative and defensive sides he put's out.

Totally agree with this post.

It came off last night and it will do at other points in the season I am sure but when it does start to go wrong and we need to look at attacking options, it's going to be difficult as was evident at Charlton on Saturday. When he brought on N Gotty and Kishishev it was just inevitable that we weren't going to create many chances, it looked like damage limitation.

i think its fairly safe to assume that Kenton was there as a sub CB

We already had 3 on the pitch, plus Stearman who is known to play there!

No need in my opinion.

Definitely. And Sheehan was on the bench as well I heard (was a bit out of it last night), another bloody defender if true! Chambers and Kishishev could have dropped back to full-back as well. Three defenders on the bench, it's mental.

couldn't understand that myself. Unless there's problems with others we're not finding out

Playing a defensive line up away to premiership opposition is totally acceptable imo. I doubt he'll play like that at home on Saturday.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Hume play behind the front 2.
