Mark Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Not meaning to moan but our Alan, like Kaebi played 90 minutes for the Reserves on Monday, yet he (and Kenton) was selected and did play a part in the last 25 minutes. Whilst it was a great result, we are all too used to the team only bothering to perform to the required standards in cup games. I saw Megson laughing and joking with Maybury during his first training session and feared the worst, he better not be picked ahead of Kaebi just because of his involvement tonight, especially as wing back would suit him down to the ground. It's rather worrying if these pair have somehow moved ahead of Kaebi in the pecking order.

AyewJoking Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Out of the five? transfer listed by Martin Allen/Milan Mandaric we've only got rid of Hughes?

Koke Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 And still we have the moaners. He raised a very valid point.
Lillehamring Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 And still we have the moaners. i'm sorry, when did everything become perfect?
AyewJoking Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 So Martin Allen put de Vries on the list then said, "hang on, I can build the team around this guy"?

Bert Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 To be honest i think they're waiting for Kaebi to learn some half decent English.
Flynny Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I wanna see Kaebi, but I never thought Maybury was a total write-off. He's capable of being a good championship Right--back, even if he is 4th choice in that positon for us. 5th if you count N'gotty. Didn't see the point in putting him on there, though. Was Newton on the bench?
Eastern Fox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Didn't see the point in putting him on there, though. Was Newton on the bench? No it was Henderson, Maybury, Sheehan, Campbell, Kenton
Daggers Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Was Newton on the bench? No. I reckon Megson is working his way through the squad trying them out in competitive fixture to see who he fancies keeping. Either that or he has a bloody funny sense of humour.

Im not making some weird call for his inclusion, far from it but then again I didnt want MDV back in a Leicester shirt and he proved me wrong so anything is possible. I dont get the Kaebi bit at all. Its bad enough we only have him on a two year deal but the signs are that he isnt fancied to do a job for the first team. I dont get the Ferreira signing either. Its all confusing but Megson needs to get the results right and if that means including the likes of Maybury then so be it, as long as he performs.

He had a decent second half for the reserves on Monday and simply helped keep the ship steady when he came on tonight. But that was all that Megson required of him. we had our goal. There was never any question of our pushing forward for more because Megson, true to form, finished with a team full of defenders apart from Campbell and, perhaps, Clemence. But they closed the game out competently. I wasn't encouraged by the method - awful but effective might sum it up - but Maybury did nothing out of sync whatsoever.

Megson was infamous for 1-0 wins with WBA, Derby went up with quite a few last season. I would personally happily pay to watch one nil wins if that means promotion.
Milky Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I did warn you all after the reserve game on monday that he'd turn to Maybury, but do you listen?
Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Megson was infamous for 1-0 wins with WBA, Derby went up with quite a few last season. I would personally happily pay to watch one nil wins if that means promotion. You may well get your wish. And if it will make you happy that'll be a bonus for you.
Geo V Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 You may well get your wish. And if it will make you happy that'll be a bonus for you. I know you wont be. You`ll gladly substitute 1-0 wins for 3-3 draws or even 2-3 defeats by the sounds of it. People like yourself seem to forget that even under previous successful managers that we have had to rely on the play-offs because we couldn't muster enough points to go up automatically like GM has managed on two occasions in his managerial career. To get that high up the table we need a fair share of 1-0 wins. Its time people wised up and got this almost utopia like mentality of winning 4-0 every game and doing it with style because it wont happen that often. Lets somehow get to the Premiership and then add the type of players who are able to play that way. For now, with what we have, we aren't going to consistently play Brazil football to satisfy the delusional and unrealistic fans like yourself.
Eastern Fox Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Obviously we can't expect to win every game 4-0, but equally we can't always expect to win when we field a team of 7-8 defensive players as we did tonight, with only one attacking option on the bench. Credit to Megson for getting this great result, but I don't think these tactics are necessarily going to work all of the time in the league. At the moment, he doesn't seem to be using our attacking options very well-people said Hume and Campbell were below average tonight, obviously the front pair against Charlton didn't work at all. I think Kaebi sounds like he has value to include in the squad, rather than 3 defenders on the bench like tonight. Encouraging result, but I think the squad will often need more balance between attack and defence to win games.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I don't care who plays as long as we are winning Play Maybury as a forward if its going to get us 3 points
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I hate all this, ' I don't care who plays as long as they give 100% ' that means bollocks, if we give 100% in the next two games and lose, i'm sure some of you won't be saying the same thing then. Gary Megson got away with murder last night having 9 defenders in his squad and 8 on the pitch for the final 10 minutes. I'd have liked to have seen his explanations if we'd gone 1-0 down early on and how he'd have gone about taking the game to Aston Villa. With only one attacking outlet on the bench, we'd have been screwed. Luckily it's paid off again like it did against Forest. But it didn't work at Charlton last Saturday and the fans were livid. It's something to bare in mind, because as far as I can see, the way Megson goes about things, when we lose the fans will naturally be disgusted due to the negative and defensive sides he put's out. I shook my head when I saw the squad last night. That sort of squad isn't why I go to watch football, it never has been. I feel i'm getting robbed from the game and the team I watch some rain or shine. I can't walk away either some i'm stuck with Megson and his ways, but I think i'll have more feelings of frustration than elation if Gary continues to pick teams and squads of this nature. Alan Maybury? Chapter III

I wanted to turn the car back round and go home when i found out. Was worth it in the end but it won't always be pulled off in the league.

Exactly, it's the equivalent of a safe bet that very rarely get's you big profits but can quite easily backfire. If you concede a goal or heaven forbid two, then it's game over under Megson's style. I can understand the need to have a tight defence and keeping clean sheets is very refreshing and rewarding, but you need some attackers and more than a token midfielder to win convincingly.

I think football has moved on from the 1-0 smash and grab style, with the unpredictability of teams and players in the league, the odds are that the offence will score even with alittle help from lapse refeering, which inevitably as you say is game over under Megson's style!!!
