Flynny Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 It'd be silly to call for them to be given the job right now, but Burrows is no Rob Kelly. IF he gets the job, I wouldn't be too displeased, but he'd need to demonstrate good form for a couple of weeks yet before I'd actively call for his appointment.
filbertway Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 May as well give them a month or so to see if they're upto it. If they can keep getting results/performances over a 10-15 game period then why not give them the job?
Lillehamring Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 to say burrows shouldn't get the job because we played well against chelsea is wrong, and i don't think anyone here has said that they want him just because we had one good cup game... the reason burrows is a good option is because he is clearly a good coach, the games under megson where he and taggart have coached have been solid performances with players capable of discipline for 90 minutes, that was nothing to do with megson, megson brought us the dull tactics, against barnsley we were infinately more attack minded yet still solid and disciplined... that's what intrigues me about burrows... he IS a proper manager, not just some high profile ex-player that had a few good seasons (or not) a few years ago. burrows should be considered along with any other candidate on his merits and his track record, and in his favour is the very healthy fact that employing him will be easier and less of an upheavle on the players. i also think that his having worked with redknapp might make a difference to MMs thoughts.
MPH Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0 Milan wants new man in by next week by Andy Mann Leicester City owner Milan Mandaric hopes to have a new manager in place by next week's clash with Burnley. And the City chairman admitted the performances under the caretaker team of Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart have given him a “headacheâ€. Mandaric said: “The search is going positively. I am meeting and interviewing several potential candidates. “Hopefully I can finish this in the next two or three days - no later than Tuesday before the Preston game. “Then, hopefully, over those next few days we can make some decisions. “The last game before the international break is Burnley at home (a week tomorrow). I hope we can sort something out before that. “Everything is okay other than a headache which Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart are giving me with the way we are performing under their leadership. “I am looking long-term for stability at the club but things don't always come the way you want them.â€

Durnerz Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 Why not? Kelly and Stowell anyone? For me its just not the right appointment, I want to see Taggart still at the club in some Capacity but it needs a manager with an aura about him who can stamp his authority on the team and is proven in the transfer market. Burrows or Taggart have never been managers in their careers of any significance no matter how highly you and I regard Wednesday nights performance. Paul Jewell would be the man for me.
MPH Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 Why not? well to be honest it was more of a shock ' no way' than not wanting it. just didnt think it would be considered...

Tabou Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 Roy Keane Was never a manager before Sunderland. Simon Grayson was never a manager before Blackpool. Dennis Wise (****, but doing well) Was never a manager before Leeds. Boothroyd and Watford, I could go on.... Why change it yet anyway? Why not wait a month? See how were doing, then do it (if necessary) in teh International break!

Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 One thing in their favour is that we'd probably get some longevity out of it. Personally I would prefer to see Milan get someone else in but if we win at Colchester then that view may change. Possibly offer them a contract until the end of the season just so we don't have the threat of someone like Jewell getting poached in January.

Also, there is a longer list of those former players who have never managed before failing dismally in their first job. However, this detracts from the fact that Burrows does have experience of managing before at a few clubs. Personally, I think the form of Burrows and Taggart affords us time to select the right man so I'd be quite happy to give them another month to see if this is not just a quick bounce.
Fat Ron Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 I think that they should be seriously considered. If we are truthful, when is the last time a City side played with as much passion, pride and determination as they did against Chelsea? Im not saying that Frankie and Taggs should be judged on the one game but if thats what we are going to get week in week out from the side, stick your big name/Experianced Managers on the shelf for now.

Mark Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 “Everything is okay other than a headache which Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart are giving me with the way we are performing under their leadership." Amazing what can happen to a team when they're relieved of a Megson.

Burrows and tags should be judged on what goes on in the league... Amazing what can happen to a team when they're relieved of a Megson.

surrifox Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 agree with that - give a couple of games - you can't judge from a one-off cup game against complacent oppo and there's nothing like playing in front of 40k+ fans to make you raise your game- if they can replicate something close to that at layer road then against a resurgent preston they might be making a case. Even levien looked impressive after the spurs game (but not for long)

I beleive Gerry has the ability to wind players up and get them fired for a game, and i beleive he should be in the chagning room. but for him and frank to take the job when we have showed an interest to top quality managers such as Paul Jewell, i think would be a big mistake. I was one of the people who fell for RK's fluke take over as manager and fluke hatrick of matches, i wrote to the club asking them to consider mr Kelly. I dont wish for our club to make the mistake again, and im certainly not jumping to conclusions of someone just because of a few games. Give them a trail by all means, but please Milan if Jewell is interested GET HIM!! P.S. p,ease sign Fulop!!!!

Foxhateram Posted 2 November 2007 Posted 2 November 2007 thats the key issue. He turned us down last time he was offered it so i dont know what he is thinking this time.... i did say IF. However i beleive we just approached him to early after his statement of im going for break. if he come to us after quiting Wigan everyone would think he was crazy, and lost the plot, and then headlines of "Jewell fell out with the chairman at wigan" "Must have Been a bust up" "Is Jewell lost his Jewells?" would have occured, hes now had what nearly 6 months out of managing, he must be missing it by now, i think hel take the job, seeing it as a new challenge.

I wish i was as optimistic as you, but my big question is why wouldn't he have taken the Bolton job if he was ready to get back. Seemed the perfect job for him and the club! I really hope he does join us because I don't see him as another manager that will be put on trial, i see him as a manger for the next few years. It may take him a while to build his own team and style of play but I think he could get us to the Prem with MM's backing. Problem is Martin Allen has set us back due to all the iffy signings, so this season at least could be a struggle for any manager. Fingers crossed for Jewell!!
