Milans List

Milan's list

The caretaker duo of Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart are one of three options that Milan Mandaric is weighing up for the vacant Leicester City manager's post.

City chairman Mandaric revealed he has drawn up a short-list of three from which he will pick the new manager.

And he admitted that caretaker boss Burrows and his assistant Taggart, who have led City since Gary Megson's departure to Bolton two weeks ago, are in his thinking.

Mandaric said: “We have a short-list of three.

“One possibility, as it always was before, is to continue with Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart and their staff, with maybe an addition to help them.â€

City are unbeaten in the league under the caretaker duo, having won against Barnsley and drawn at Colchester and Preston. They also went within a whisker of causing a major Carling Cup shock at Chelsea before going down 4-3.

If they were appointed, the duo are likely to receive backing from inside the dressing room, as DJ Campbell suggested after his goal-scoring performance in the 1-1 draw against Preston on Tuesday.

The £2million signing said: “It's up to what the chairman wants. I am sure the boys wouldn't mind them having it but, if not, we get on with it.â€

Speculation over who else is in Mandaric's thoughts has intensified in recent days as the search for a new manager appears to be drawing to a close.

Former Everton boss Joe Royle, pictured left, has previously admitted to having talks over the position.

His experience of winning promotion from Championship level with Oldham and Manchester City, and of taking Ipswich to play-off spots in 2004 and 2005, could be an attraction.

Paul Jewell, Peter Reid and Graeme Souness, who also have experience of managing sides to Premiership promotion, have also been mentioned in speculation about the job.

So too has ex-French international midfielder Jean Tigana, the former Fulham manager, whose name surfaced earlier this week and who has been reported as having had talks with the City owner.

Mandaric is still hopeful of appointing a full-time boss before City face Burnley in their important Championship clash at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.

However, he appears in no mood to rush with another two-week international break on the horizon.

“I am trying to see if I can make the decision before Saturday,†he said.

“I am not 100-per-cent confident everything will be done before then.

“We have two weeks after that to work and prepare for the continuation of the season. But my preference and desire is to do something before Saturday.â€

From the Merc...

Still doesnt give a great deal away... As the Merc usually does, advises us there is a short list of 3 then proceeds to name 6 possabilites

Still, possibly the biggest hint by the man himself “One possibility, as it always was before, is to continue with Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart and their staff, with maybe an addition to help them.†would appear that we are not too far away from the Director of Football thought on here...Maybe, Big Joe or Brian Little for that post leaving the Managment to Burrows & Taggs... Worth a thought I think.

It's all bollocks. It doesn't matter who's on the shortlist. We just need an appointment.

It is taking an awfully long time this time around isn't it. Didn't Steve "God" Beagenhole and John "Jesus Christ Superstar" Rudkin only have one game in charge before we were landed with Megson.

He's obviously making absolutely sure that he definitely makes the right decision and definitely gets totally the right man for the role this time.

Megson did turn up pretty sharpish (can you blame him?) lol

But this time around we've been looking for a manager during a busy stretch of games... last time around, we didn't have quite the packed schedule we've had in the last 3 weeks.

But... if Mandaric has been interviewing the likes if Tigana, I don't mind if it takes a little longer...

Well, I won't mind if we don't end up with some deadbeat tosser like Peter Reid.

Allen left in the midweek at the end of August. There was an international break in there too after the Plymouth game on September 1st and he took over the day before the QPR game on the 15th so still a fair gap (think that's all correct, can't be arsed to check) but obviously it's been a bit longer this time, yes. I think it's because Milan wants to speak to both Dowie and Holloway but we haven't had the usual crap in the press about them being unsettled etc, which can only be a good thing. I don't really mind who it is now as long as it's not Peter Reid but I would prefer a proper manager instead of lower-league journeyman Burrows. If he wasn't already at the club he wouldn't be anywhere near the shortlist and he's only here because of Megson. Time to make a harsh decision again in my eyes.

One can only summise that we wont have a new manager for Saturdays game.

I am not too concerned about the lengthy process this time around as long as we get the'Right Man' in this time.

We've fcuked up too many times getting the wrong man(Although its easily said in hind sight!)

Ive said it before and i'll say it again.

I AM NOT GAY!....

I mean...WE NEED STABILITY! :)

Hmm I wish I was that optimistic, I see this delay as more to do with the fact that there aren't many good managers to pick from out there, and who actually want the job! In all honesty I would prefer to stick with Burrows and Taggs longer if it means MM doesn't appoint someone half good from a bad bunch! Last thing we need is another failure. the next manager has to be the right one and be given time. Don't care how long you take Milan, just get it right!

If Burrows get's the gig after seeing Mandarich's reaction to the performance against Colchester then it's because he can't persuade anyone worthwhile to come in!

Taint gonna be Burrows.

So the merc reads the same news feeds as us then.

Taint Jewell, my top 3 bets are:

Margerat Beckett

Ian Beale

Dr Hilary Jones

All 3 are self explanatory!!!

Nah he was off golfing, rather than having meetings with MM, I think it's more of a case that Jewell turned us down straight away. Would be even better though if I was wrong and he did indeed join us WITH Hutchings as assistant, be class!!! Don't think MM would be taking so long though or saying he had candidate lists this late on, if Jewell wanted the job.

Agreed

But if Joe Royle has been interviewed, why has an appointment not followed? :dunno:
