James. Posted 20 December 2007 Posted 20 December 2007 There is nothing and I mean NOTHING quite like hearing good music with a talented female vocalist singing over it. There's something incredibly sexy about women singing and also incredibly pleasurable on the ear. I would have to say Beth Gibbons of Potishead is my favourite female vocalist. She displays such raw emotion and versatility in her singing, it's a pleasure to behold (as you would have noticed for anyone that read my review of the gig I went to in the Portishead thread). Another favourite of mine is Lou Rhodes of Lamb. Listen to their album Fear of Fours (or in fact any of their albums although that's the best) and you will see what I mean. From the old skool I would say Dusty Springfield and Eva Cassidy are both amazing vocalists. Hearing either of them sends a shiver down the spine. So, woman who can sing, I salute you.

Geo V Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 Reminds me of a mate of mine who only listens to male voalists or groups as "women dont sound right singing" the prat! Anyway, on certain R&B tracks when female vocalists get their little bit parts it really makes certain tracks. At the moment Im feeling the older sounding or "old school" sounding voices like Chrisette Michele, Emily King, Floetry and Jill Scott but there are some great female vocalists out there, its just a big shame they aren't so good at songwriting as it sounds all the same these days.

Simon Posted 23 December 2007 Posted 23 December 2007 There's lots of really good female vocal talent around, in metal I'm a big fan of: Simone Simons (Epica) Mellissa Ferlaak (formely of Visions of Atlantis) Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation) Annette Olson (Nightwish) Also a big fan of Dusty Springfield, Patsy Cline, Debbie Harrie. Modern female vocalists? Hmm don't know all that many outside of metal I have to admit, I really like Katie Melua's voice as I do Leann Rimes, Vanessa Carlton, Delta Goodrem and Alex Parks (where the hell did she disappear to?). Classically I'd have to go for Katherine Jenkins.
