Molson Canadian Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 See ya Hume he's not going anywhere, with the addition of more strikers and hopefully more stability upfront Hume can now play his natural position of attacking midfielder hopefully. Hume is one of the most passionate and hard working individuals on this team, the management knows that and the fans know it their is no way they would let him go unless they recieved a large transfer fee for him.
Kilworthfox Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I think it's more down to the fact that Hume has been linked with other clubs. This double capture of strikers may have put the final nail in the coffin for him or even fryattFingers crossed it's Cort aswell. We definately will see 1/2 strikers leave in Jan It ain't gonna happen! The clubs mentioned are Fulham and Everton, that does not suggest that he would be leaving on: 1 a free 2 or for a club in a worse position Therefore we must assume that the footballing world must believe him to be a decent player, and better than the club he is currently with. I heard Roy Hodgson speaking earlier on SSN and he mentioned looking first to his own squad before looking at any possible targets, so that report is bullshine. Everton? erm I can't see it unless its going to be 2mil +

We definately will see 1/2 strikers leave in Jan but surely with both Cort and John gone that is 2 that have left you are left with 5 strikers which is what you need really

Would be nice to see him work with Howard up top however.
Trumpet Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 We've signed 2 strikers, but with John injured and DJ injured, Holloway only has Hume, Fryatt, Hayles and Howard to chose from (forgot about Chambers). I don't think Hume will be going anywhere soon, I hope not anyway.. he's just started to find the net n all.

When John went off he brought on Sheehan! Chambers has not come off the bench as much as I would have liked him to have. He is a great prospect from what I have seen but In Holloway's opinion not yet if his substitutions are anything to go by.
act smiley Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Bit unsure about this because although Howard's a not-at-all skillful player he's the ultimate in big lump strikers and can do the business in this league and is hopefully an excellent replacement for Cort. We just got away from the hoofball though and this is going to send us straight back to it, isn't it? Oh well. Also a little bit concerned over the length of the deal offered, have we learnt nothing from some of the deals Levein handed out?
Ashley Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Steve Howard is a good signing for us but yet another striker. Howard,Campbell,Fryatt,John,Chambers,Hayles,Cort
Jay Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Steve Howard is a good signing for us but yet another striker.Howard,Campbell,Fryatt,John,Chambers,Hayles,Cort well Corts a gonna never going to play for this club again Johns loan will be over soon Chambers is probably to young for first team leaving you with Howard Campbell Fryatt Hume and Hayles which is a good balance of styles imo
DBEightyFive Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 When does Collins John's loan period end and he can go back to Fulham?
wirralsimon Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Holloway has repeatedly referred to character and players off-pitch behaviour in interviews, as well as saying he was disappointed with the atmosphere amongst the players we have. I think the Hayles signing is partly about what he brings on the pitch, but he is also a senior pro who knows exactly what Holloway wants from him and the rest of the team as this is the third time he has played for him. And he didn't start playing league foootball until the age of 25, so the legs may not be as tired as they are on other players of 35 who have been playing league football for 15 years or more. Simon
Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 He's the perfect partner for Campbell. I just hope he stays because those two would get at least 30 goals next season between them, barring injury. It'd be Deane and Dickov all over again. If we have a midfield by then, obviously.

Totally agree, people keep mentioning Fryatt as the ideal foil for Howard, but i think DJ would be the better option with his pace.
Durnerz Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Superb signing. Add an attacking midfielder now and a winger and we're starting to look a different side. Howard is the type of player that even in the most ugly game (which we seem to get a lot of the time) can find you a vital goal, we've lacked that real threat for a while now. I still agree the problem is further back with the centre of midfield and the wings but hopefully we can get that attacking presence in the middle sorted and out wide. Very encouraged so far.

Mort Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Totally agree, people keep mentioning Fryatt as the ideal foil for Howard, but i think DJ would be the better option with his pace. Damn right! for me DJ (when fit) is far and away the best striker we have at the moment... Fryatt (who's been alright the last few games IMHO) is always promising but never really producing anything to justify the hero worship he gets. While DJ and Howard sounds like an ideal combination of pace and power.
WetFlannel Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Current Strikers: Steve Howard Iain Hume Matty Fryatt DJ Campbell Carl Cort Barry Hayles Best strikers in the division? I think so... especially in depth We now have pace (Campbell), Power (Hayles and Howard), finishing (Fryatt), work rate (Hume)... Very very versatile and something for every situation. Now we need wingers to provide service
Clogger Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I'm thinking Ian Marshall. Not too many of them around any more.

i luv u foxes Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 two very good signings if you ask me howard proved it last season in this division holloway must see something in hayles to sign him again so lets see the goals flow once we have a more positive going forward midfield
Monk Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Just seen the interview on SSN I was disappointed he didn't slag off Derby a little bit more. For example, if his interview has said something along the lines of: 'I'm delighted to be here, especially pleased to get out of that shit hole that is Derby, they are doomed anyhow. Hopefully I can put a hatrick past them on the opening day of the season, sheep shaggers!' He just seemed chuffed that he'd got such a long deal (i.e. he knows on the inside that he's shit )
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 3 in 21 would suggest otherwise. But it does prove what a blind spot some fans have about Fryatt.
