Bluemoon Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 He's the perfect partner for Campbell. I just hope he stays because those two would get at least 30 goals next season between them, barring injury. It'd be Deane and Dickov all over again. If we have a midfield by then, obviously. Hayles has only scored 2 all season.................his legs are gone. I have always liked the man ever since his Fulham days.....but he just isn't scoring anymore
BigGibbo Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Im happy with Howard & Hayles both could get into double figures if they hit form. Although Hayles & form haven't gone together for a little while!

Although Hayles & form haven't gone together for a little while! i agree. it sounded like they played quite well together and they both had quite a few chances to score all they have got to do now is score.
Dames Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Leicester is a graveyard for strikers at the moment. We've spent well over the odds on this guy and Campbell when the money could have gone into our non-existant midfield. Are the people that run our club really blind or are they just plain thick? We have enough strikers and defenders now.

We have forwards but no goalscorers Howard is a prolific goalscorer & Hayles has been a prolific goalscorer & can still offer something especially off the bench! Who out of our other forwards are you expecting to get in to double figures?
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Im happy with Howard & Hayles both could get into double figures if they hit form. Although Hayles & form haven't gone together for a little while! Interesting you still have my quote about Hammond up. I'd have Hammond in a 4-3-3 with our new strikers anytime instead of Fryatt.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Interesting you still have my quote about Hammond up. I'd have Hammond in a 4-3-3 with our new strikers anytime instead of Fryatt. Interesting although I think you will be on your own again Thracian, personally I'd have Howard alongside Hume (Campbell to challenge for the place when fit) in a 4-4-2. Hayles to provide cover for Howard, nothing more and Fryatt, tbh I'm not sure what I'd do with him.

Who out of our other forwards are you expecting to get in to double figures? Hume, John, Fryatt and Campbell all have the ability to net double figures in this division. Its just the style of football that this club plays that limits them.

Im not sure about Hume well any of them really but i put it to you that Howard & Hayles (as a buffer) will score more than the rest of our strikers put together for the rest of this season!

Hume got 14 last season thats double figures. Campbell got 12 and John would score a fair amount if given service. Fryatt was prolific before he came to this deathbed.

Samilktray Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Hammond instead of Fryatt?! Fryatts hardly doing wonders for us, "when" Hammonds fit if were still struggling up front we may aswell give him a chance.

Yes fair enough they can score but none of them are scoring, or are out & out goalscorers they all have different strong points! I still say Howard & Hayles will score more than the rest of them put together this season & Howard will score more than any of them individually next season.
Dr_Fox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I hate to urinate on anybody's bonfire here but we've just paid £1.5m for a 31 year old journeyman carthorse who has had one above average season at this level in his whole career. Howard is an ugly, awkward player who is only succesful in a team playing an ugly, hoof ball game; not the type of signing I was hoping for and most certainly not at that price!

Suits us down to a tee I'd say, we've been playing like that for years.

He is on his way down now and I'm not at all convinced he warrants the transfer fee (and no doubt wages) we have paid for him

Come on - the man is contracted to the club until he's 35...and he'd still be able to bang in the goals in League 2 at that age. Ollie is planning for the future and should be congratulated. Christ I hate this club at the moment.

He scored 15 for Luton and then scored 17 for Derby last season (19 if you include 2 goals in the playoffs) obviously I would be happy for him to come here and score at that rate but that and the seasons preceeding it were his peak and I'm sceptical that he will be able to produce that level of performance for us especially as his confidence must be dented after his barren spell this season!

So last season he was in his peak... he goes away on holiday, comes back and is suddenly past it?
breadandcheese Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Howard was the only silver lining in today's performance. He was excellent, winning most things in the air, roughing the QPR defence up and on another day, would have had a goal, rather than see his shot bounce off the post from 20 odd yards. We may have overpaid by £250,000-500,000 but he was easily our best player today.
joely22 Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 umm...he hasn't scored anything this season He's scored at Old Trafford. What else do you want?! Out of his depth at Premiership level, extremely comfortable at Championship level. Am glad he had a good game today.

WetFlannel Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I thought Howard was excellent today... Exactly the striker we needed. Won alot of headers and was very unlucky not to score...
