filbertway Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 after the Derby Christmas party... he does have a bit of the old Shane Mcgowan about him imo Quality stuff
AoWW Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Great that we've got Howard and Hayles, imo. Should both provide some much needed power up front. Tomorrow just got very interesting!
when_you're_smiling Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Just hope we get the right Howard. Derby fans spent four months of last season booing him because he's a lazy carthorse and then the rest of the season proclaiming him as their saviour for the goals he scored. We've probably paid double what he's worth but we've got a regular 'premiership' starter, ok very loosly Premiership, but hopefully he'll provide something we don't have.
Matt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Hahaha! I love other clubs fans getting upset, Normally we're the ones to have players, managers poached, e.t.c. If Leicester City think about buying steve howard of uss i will burn walkers wanky stadium to the ground and slay mandaric http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2234677514

This is a poorly filmed, poorly edited and generally attrocious tube video of Stevie. This can probably be put down to the fact its been made by someone from Derby. It does however give you a kind of hint to what the mans football is all about...... and it will suit us in this division. If this vid has been posted in another thread, I'm not sorry. dandannieldanok Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Something that has just caught my attention is that Howard started every single league game in the Championship for Derby which bodes well injury wise and discipline wise.
Matt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Something that has just caught my attention is that Howard started every single league game in the Championship for Derby which bodes well injury wise and discipline wise. Enter the Leicester City Jinx... (That consisting of - Losing the abilty to score, become injury prone, and have the referee on your back every 10 seconds)
MikeyT Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Just to remind you of the rules on signing players before the transfer window. You can sign him today even though the window is closed. In fact you could have signed him 3 weeks ago if you wanted to. There is nothing stopping any club buying a player outside the transfer window. You just cant PLAY him until it opens again. Says on SSN that Hayles is on an emergency loan deal till tomorrow! Then has signed an 18 month contract.
Staf Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Have we actually signed him yet ? They have about Hayles on the os and nothing about Howard
Matt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 As long as he don't take the penalties, I'm happy with it!! Yeah we might want to watch that; Howard was almost sacked from Luton in late 2001 after an incident during an away game against York City. The Hatters had been awarded a penalty, and Steve grabbed the ball from the designated penalty taker and promptly missed. However, an infringement was noticed and the penalty was ordered to be re-taken. Against the protests of the senior players and the management team, Howard once again grabbed the ball and stepped up to take the penalty, missing once again. He was substituted immediately afterwards and he walked straight into the changing rooms. After reclaiming his place in the team, Howard went on to score 24 goals as Luton finished runners-up in the Division 3 and Howard won the Golden Boot for that Division. Source; Wikipedia
MikeyT Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I think the main thing is to have more options and to have more competition in certain places. Hayles knows where the net is and howard is a powerhouse, which is something we have lacked for a while... Horsfield was supposed to give us that option but that just didnt work really!!I am happy with them, £1.5 million is that too much?? Maybe not compared with the going rate now for a striker. now a days... I think Derby signed him for 1 million so i guess we have payed decent for him, based on the goals he scored last season, but then again Derby had the midfielders to play the ball to him!!! Lets hope we get some quality in midfield as well. I also know what you mean about the going rate for strikers although you see Thierry Henry going to Barcelona for 16.5 million and then Darren Bent going to Spurs for 16 million.....i think i know which striker i would rather have out the two!!
MC Prussian Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Yeah we might want to watch that;Source; Wikipedia Hmm... Am I wrong or didn't he just miss a penalty for Derby yesterday???
CupidStunt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 after the Derby Christmas party... he does have a bit of the old Shane Mcgowan about him imo And if look even further at the Picture with a vivid imagination, take away the beard and hair.....who have you got? A pissed Ollie
Matt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Hmm... Am I wrong or didn't he just miss a penalty for Derby yesterday??? Correct which is why Phube said the original comment I presume. Do not give him Penalty duty, leave it with Hume(?). Mind you referees never give us Penalty's anyway!
Mark Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 He'll do a job, it's just totally uninspiring that we have spent this amount of money on him. Until we get 3-4 midfielders in he'll make no difference whatsoever, except encourage the hoof.
Staf Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I thought we had to sign Howard before 5pm or something?
dandannieldanok Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I thought we had to sign Howard before 5pm or something? 3 mins to go.
Staf Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 3 mins to go. Is that right though? So if we dont sign him in two minutes he cant play tomorrow?
Brainy Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Surely it could have been done about an hour ago, but it just hasn't been announced yet
Matt Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 Is that right though? So if we dont sign him in two minutes he cant play tomorrow? I thought we had, Reading the "Emergency Loans" thread, sounds like that's what we've done.
Staf Posted 31 December 2007 Posted 31 December 2007 I thought we had, Reading the "Emergency Loans" thread, sounds like that's what we've done. Well i wish the os could keep us more updated SSN seem to have it as a done deal
