Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 But at least Howard did more in that game that miss a chance... He hit the post which was very unlucky, and also won almost every header. When was the last time we have ever won a header? Howard was excellent yesterday, but Fryatt didn't do anything except almsot hit the corner flag with a volley, and miss from 3 yards out. Yes but he was the best player on the pitch the two games previous to that and still gets slated on here I'll admit Howard could be a good player for us, certainly in the short term my problem is with buying him and Barry Hayles. Why do that?

Why do that? Ollie likes his big and strong players, and they fit that role. The amount of long balls yesterday was incredible, and I don't think Fryatt will fit into this system if this is going to be the case every match. I expect Ollie to go alot more direct with these two, at least before we get any proper wingers, and Fryatt will suffer with this as Howard and Hayles are obviosuly better built and would have a bigger presence in the air. Alot of Plymouth fans on here stated how Ollie likes to utilize strong players...
Thracian Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 Fryatt...A conman ? surely not...Its pure Coincidence that he's had 2 of his best game's in a City shirt just before the transfer window opens...But still no goals what is it 1 goal in every 5 games? N.B. Fryatt made a total of 49 league starts for the Saddlers, scoring 27 goals in the process. Whats he got this season for Leicester 3 in 20 starts..? Unfortunately for Fryatt, the higher he goes, the more his shortcomings start to count. People say he'd do well at another Championship and if so, good luck to him. But I don't see him as what we want. We're missing Campbell who could have plundered several goals from the recent chances we've created and our side desperately need his pace and impish movement. Quite why we've bought Hayles escapes me. Just when we need racehorses we go for carthorses. No doubt he grab a few goals but we have to change the way people view our team. No-one has any fear of us. No-one would need to build barriers to keep us out. We've got to start giving people something to be afraid of and I don't see Hayles doing that.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 You can't get away with just plonking two towering lumps up front in this division and expect to get promoted. I mean this is still the goal here isn't it? Not this season obviously.

Why don't we sack every player at the club, bring back all the legends that used to play for us and everything will be fine. Why has no-one else thought of that?

Erm, by playing one big lumbering striker up front either by himself being supported by a midfield which makes ours look like Mansfield Towns or with another quicker stricker playing off him.
Webbo Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 I've had nearly four seasons of this shit I have had enough, especially when all the barracking is aimed at a 21 year old striker who has played very very well in patches this season. I'm not saying he should be starting every game but I don't really see the point in labelling him as not good enough and saying we should sell for whatever we can get. When he signed we were told by Levein that he was an investment one for the future and not the answer to our problems, but because he went and saved our season everyone expects him to bang in 15 plus goals every season in a side that simple does not create enough chances for him. Yes I know he missed a good chance yesterday but all strikers miss good chances most strikers miss quite a few good chances, some even miss more than one good chance a game (COUGH HOWARD) but Fryatts chance yesterday was the first easy chance he's had in four games, if thats all he's getting no wonder he isn't scoreing. None of our strikers are scoreing, Campbells record reads very similar to Fryatts, Corts is worse, and Humes would read likewise if he wasn't able to create his own chances from range. John I'll admit has a better record and would be a good player a usefull player at this level if he could stay fit. Which he can't. Agree with all of that apart from the last line.

Why don't we sack every player at the club, bring back all the legends that used to play for us and everything will be fine. Why has no-one else thought of that? With the unbalanced nature of the squad, for the first time, I'm worried about the prospect of relegation, which I haven't been over the last few seasons. So if Hayles is only here to do a half-season stint and help keep us up, I'm all for it.

Campbell is completely overrated. very poor first touch, never reads the play, yes he has pace but he never uses it to get into dangerous positions (eg never goes near post) he can only score from about 2 yards. 1 good fa cup performance and a few tap ins for Bham and everyone thinks he's great. He's not. Agree completley re. hayles. Completely past it I fear. Now we have even less pace up front and no one to cross the ball to the lumpish centre forwards we now have. Looks like we're building towards next season in div 1.

No idea if you've got a job but if anyone who has consistently underperformed on such a regular basis as our entire squad has this season and the 3 before then they would find themselves in a disciplinary process ultimately resulting in their redundancy. Personally I've never understood why footballers earning stupid wages should not be treated in the same manner!

Simi Posted 2 January 2008 Posted 2 January 2008 There's much in what you say but both of these players have been around our first team for three seasons. What I would expect to see in that time is a) More consistency and b) Some improvement in perceived weaknesses. Taking Fryatt's his problems to me concern: a) Lack of pace. b) Limited range of shooting c) Insufficient assists through not spotting colleagues runs and feeding the ball d) Failure to attack certain positions - six yard box/near post e) Indifference in the air. f) Lack of strength A centre-forward can do without the odd one or even two of these qualities but the more you lack the less likely you are to be successful. And I don't think Fryatt has shown signs of improving those six things enough in the seasons he's been here. Bang on there Thrac. Add to that his general lack of football intelligence and lack of anticipation and you've summed him up for me.
Ultra Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Absolutely pathetic, the excuses being made for some of there players, who have season on season demonstrated they are not good enough to play for our Club. Each time one of them goes down injured I pray it is career ending so we don't have to suffer their shitness ever again and we might even blag some compo. That's quite sick. I take it you didn't go to Forest this season? Or Chelsea? If you had, you'd realise how pathetic and immature your words are. No matter how badly players may be playing, I would never want to wish them crippled, or dead.
Benji Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 talking of chelsea it's a real shame porter is injured the flick for DJ and the immediate impact he had with his fast, run at the defenders style attack really shook the defenders up, albeit for a brief amount of time hopefully after the revamp there will be a chance at least for him to prove his worth when he's fit again

Didn't you make a big post about wanting Mattock and/or Stearman to get injured when they got called up for England under-21s? The original post has been deleted, but this was Jonbluefox9's reply Uncalled for words* What has Joe Mattock done so far this season that has been so bad? I've been to all but one of the games that he's played for the first team and I can't remember him 'disgracing' the City shirt on any of those occasions. He's 17 years old! If he looks out of place in first team football every now and again then I think his age is a valid reason. I can't believe that you as a City supporter are hoping one of our talented youngsters, and Mattock is talented, gets injured!
Hammster Posted 3 January 2008 Posted 3 January 2008 Does Elvis Hammond still get abuse coz I haven't been on the forum for ages and I am in the mood for some Elvis bashing?
