davieG Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Does Ollie know which is which? MercLeicester City manager Ian Holloway today revealed that he may sign a third striker during this month's transfer window. Holloway landed Derby's Steve Howard and Barry Hayles from his old club Plymouth on Monday, and both are expected to start tomorrow's FA Cup match against Southampton. But Holloway, who admits he is prepared to do some "ducking and diving", says he could yet bring in another attacker. "I am keen on a lot of players," he said. "I have got a big scouting network and I am trying to do a lot of things, but I can't tell you what they are. "I have got two strikers in, I might have another one in time. I need options in wide areas - I think I have got a choice of three new ones, maybe more - and central midfield, and possibly a defender." Holloway is relishing his role as manager of a buying club rather than a selling one as he bids to create a squad which will eventually have his indelible mark on it. So is this a pleasant difference from his previous managerial tribulations? He said: "Yes, exactly. I might want to swap some around because I have got so many players, and if I need to duck and dive, then I will do. "Let's face it, they have not pulled up a lot of trees to impress me so far have they? "I am getting the work ethic now. Even at QPR when they were 3-0 down they never gave up, never stopped running and could have got back in the game, but it is all about balance, ask any manager. "Milan Mandaric has not been here long, I have been here even less and I am having to sift through things that have already happened. "I will take that on the chin and I want the next 20 games to be a lot different, because they need to be." Holloway ran the rule over three foreign trialists last week and he said: "They impressed me and I might do something, but it is all up in the air at the moment, like a man who trips carrying a jigsaw puzzle - when it lands, I will know what pieces I have got and what work I have to do."
Alexikokopops Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 At least he mentions midfielders in one sentence! I'm clutching at that final straw...
Daggers Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 27 right backs, thirteen forwards and no keeper. We're great. Foxes!
Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Whenever I think of Ian Holloway all I can picture is when Gareth rings up Brent when he's in a meeting and tells him he likes his little beard. I'm clutching at the straw that has revealed we are set to sign Ben Alnwick.
Fat Ron Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I take it that you would have preferred him to do nothing in the Transfer Window then and carry on with the players already at the club?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I don't know. I'm desperately trying to remain optimistic. I don't want to be one of these idiots that moans about speculation but when he is actually quoted as saying he might bring in a third striker, I despair. He's been saying all along it's the service. I'm sure he's negotiating behind the scenes with all sorts of clubs for midfielders but it'd be nice to hear that instead of stuff about a striker yet again. It's all very frustrating.
Daggers Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I take it that you would have preferred him to do nothing in the Transfer Window then and carry on with the players already at the club? I'd prefer him to shut up, get on with managing the club and put all of his efforts into dragging us out of the crap-heap he has contributed towards rather than pontificating bollocks to media organisations. I take it you are perfectly happy with his performance on and off the touchline so far?
Bernie's Love Child Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Hey! I've got a strange idea guys! Lets wait until the end of January and see who Ollie brings in rathar than moaning after the window has been open for 4 days that we hasn't signed this player or that player or a decent midfielder! FFS people give the man time!!
Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 What also strikes me about this article is that if you picture Ian Holloway wehn he was interviewed, he's probably have been giggling. Almost a little sheepish that he can bring another striker in if he wants to, like a kid being given an extra quid to spend on sweets if they want and they fookin will do. Ian now reminds me of this emoticon -
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Tell you what lets have 10 strikers and 10 defenders, then we'll win the league...
scottybbmf Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 he has to do something i dont agree that panic buying but we are linked with so many names and people seem to forget at the moment with our current squad we will be going down too much speculation going on see what we actually get. GIVE HIM A CHANCE HE IS NO MUG.
Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I WANT YOU ALL TO TAKE A GOOD LONG HARD LOOK AT THE SIGNATURE BELOW. REALLY SOAK IT UP.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I WANT YOU ALL TO TAKE A GOOD LONG HARD LOOK AT THE SIGNATURE BELOW. REALLY SOAK IT UP. That hair is special. I'm warming to him...

Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 That hair is special.I'm warming to him... If you take the hair away he actually looks like Barry Hayles, perhaps Ollie's got confused.
Fat Ron Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I'd prefer him to shut up, get on with managing the club and put all of his efforts into dragging us out of the crap-heap he has contributed towards rather than pontificating bollocks to media organisations.I take it you are perfectly happy with his performance on and off the touchline so far? I'd prefer him to concentrate on the football instead of the media in all honesty. Nobody needs to know who we might or might not sign, just who we have signed and who has left the club. Im not keen on the paper chat cause most of its b*llocks anyway. Im not happy with the Clubs performance let alone Holloway. But then in all honesty I havent been too chuffed for the last 4 years so Im happier to give the guy a break as he been the only manager we have had in those 4 years to look at the squad and realise its not working. Changes need to be made and he is making them. Only time will tell if they are the right changes for this Club.

FFS people give the man time!! Worryingly similiar comments were made in the summer and we all know what happened then,I for one am neither happy or optimistic at this particular moment in time!

Lets wait until the end of January and see who Ollie brings in rathar than moaning after the window has been open for 4 days that we hasn't signed this player or that player or a decent midfielder! Your patience and common sense will win you no friends here
Dr_Fox Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 I take it that you would have preferred him to do nothing in the Transfer Window then and carry on with the players already at the club? I would prefer him to do things: 1) Sign players who are better than what we already have 2) Sign a couple of decent wingers Howard may (arguably) fit number 1 (at least for a year or so) but we payed over the odds Hayles fits neither category and the same applies to Pericard (if he signs) and I've yet to see us seriously linked to any wingers bar Martin who I expect will stay at Plymouth If his signings aren't going to improve the team then I would rather we just stick with the players we've got; at least that way we're not wasting even more money in wages!
Master Fox Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Is there a record for having the biggest and shittest squad in the history football? I think we're pretty much there.
Babylon Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 So he wants.... Another striker, 3 wingers, one central midfielder, one defender, a keeper and a Partridge in a pear tree.
MC Prussian Posted 4 January 2008 Posted 4 January 2008 Is there a record for having the biggest and shittest squad in the history football? I think we're pretty much there. This has "Cirque de Stupidité" written all over it. Maestro Ollie presents to you the most outrageous and spectacular creatures football can offer...
