Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 We keep just throwing players aside... I mean I'm sure there must have been some team SOMEWHERE that would have paid for Cort or Newton? Even if it was just 10K. Or are we the only team that stupid?

Even if it was just 10K.Or are we the only team that stupid? The problem is that quite a few of them were offered long contracts and they don't have to leave. Why would they want to go somewhere else when are guaranteed to be earning twice as much at Leicester for three years?
SamL Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 We were in desperate need of a winger and Newton was the easy option. His best performance came against Birmingham last season but he's been shit in every other game, never looked bothered. Big mistake by Martin Allen. Does mutual consent mean he has found another club? Goodbye, don't come back
Mort Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I honestly think that half of a game was the only reason we signed him, sadly he's not repeated it. IIRC that's pretty much what Allen said when he signed him, something about watching a video of the Brum game ... always struck me as a kinda desperate effort on Allen's part (such a piecemeal summer when it came to transfers).
Thracian Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Never undestood why we signed him this season. Where were we going with a guy who's scored one goal in his two spells except a tiny bit furthe than with Sylla and Low who didn't score between them? I could have screamed when we sent Gradel out on loan and he got five goals in an interrupted half season. Anyway what past is past and it represents another good day at the office for Holloway.

It's not the transfer fee it's the wages, Newton had 6 months to go at say £5k/week = £130,000 and Cort had 18 months at say £8k = £624,000.

No I get that, but I would guess we have had to pay, say, at least half their remaining contracts to get rid of them. Can't just "sack" em, that nice squeeky voiced Gordon Taylor (I don't hate many people... but he's up there near the top of the list! ) wouldn't like it. But then there's also the negativity issue which Ollie mentioned, so that would be a very good reason to pay them their pound of flesh.

So there's little point in trying to get some sort of fee, the players themselves, if they've taken a cut must feel they can get another mug club somewhere, putting any sort of fee on their head could hinder that option.
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Thank god. Bar one performance genuinely one of the worst players I've seen play for Leicester. No joke.
Jonezy Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Another plus in the Ollie book.... Milan letting Ollie do this, also shows, that Milan trust Ollie. Better times....

danny. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 woo! he always reminded me of an andrew impey, but one with wooden legs that couldn't play football.
OzFox311 Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Another Martin Allen mistake fixed by Ollie, this man is becoming more and more likable by the minute... Seriously though, good luck to Newts, he just wasn't good enough to get ample game time here and we can't afford to have a star signing playing reserves for his whole time here.. good decision all round.
WetFlannel Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Just think: Summer - Newton January - Laczko
