Bert Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I know we'd lose our better players etc but Maybes came up with a fairly decent point during the game today, saying that it might be good for us, to go down for a season, to re-build a team, get a winning mentality back, get some optimism back with the supporters. It wouldn't be nice this season but in the long-term can anyone else see this benefiting us? Personally I don't think it would, but that's just me.
The Reverend Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 No. That was the idea when we came down from the Premiership. Doesnt work like that.

I think it wouldn't work, the scary prospect is that we could do a forest and stay down there, whuse to say we would go straight back up? We won't get relegated....

I remember my dad saying that when we got relegated from the Prem in 02. A year later we were back up, a year later back down...and now...well, this. If we were to go down, I could see us doing a Forest tbh.

I brushed the idea off as well, but whilst doing this, I didn't think it was that bad a suggestion. That doesn't really make sense, except in my head.

I don't think we'll go down this season and I don't think it'd be good for us to be relegated either. League One's not a stroll in the park and teams can find themselves stuck there or even worse, relegated again. The expectancy levels amongst supporters now is massive, imagine what it'd be like if we were playing in League One? Supporters would automatically expect top two, minimum would be promotion via the play-offs and that's understandable. I can see why it might seem like a good idea, especially if we could do a Man City but I think we'd end up more like an MK Dons in terms of relegations!
Matt Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 When we got relegated from the Premiership wasn't the attitude "Yeah but atleast we'll see some win's" e.t.c.? I see the point, but I don't agree with it one bit, we have to struggle through in this league slowly getting rid of the shite, and hopefully bringing in new half decent players, this can only happen with mangerial stability though, yes Ollie may have made some dodgy decisions he may not be making a huge impact on us yet, but if we get a new manager every season (or every 3 months) how can we get a team built?
Finchy Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 We're not going down people! I know it's hard but keep the fooking faith jeeez.
Bert Posted 10 February 2008 Author Posted 10 February 2008 We're not going down people! I know it's hard but keep the fooking faith jeeez. No one said that we was.
Finchy Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 No but a lot of people are acting as if we are.
Ultra Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 We're not going down people! On last night's showing, how can you be sure about that?
lookwhaticando Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Absolutely no bloody way. As much as complete decimation of the current squad might sound appealing in the short term, I really don't see what benefit we could garner from dropping out of the top two divisions for the first time in our history. I'd much rather a slow and steady building process from the position we're in now... the silly summer signing season was just completely detrimental to the squad. It's something we've since spent an entire transfer window attempting to fix (so far - we still haven't finished the clean-up). We'd doubtless suffer the same situation if - heaven forbid - we bowed out of the Championship, and there's no guarantee this shock to the system would shake us up and turn us around in spectacular fashion. In all these years, we've never had a proper chance to consolidate, build on what we've got and attempted to press on. Many of our recent seasons have started with a different manager to the one we finished the previous season with. Since Adams, no manager has had a full season in charge from start to end and then been given chance to press on from there. Craig Levein started mid-season, as did Rob Kelly. Allen started fresh at the beginning of the summer, and now Holloway has started mid-campaign too. Adams was the last manager we had to have a full season in charge before attempting to mount a serious challenge in this division. He and his squad had just fallen from the division above - wholesale changes were brought about, but it failed to shake us up. We didn't win all that many games, and the optimism quickly vanished. Just as relevant, Forest fell from the Championship. They shook their squad up, tore it to pieces and completed a massive rebuild in the summer. The next season, they hardly set the league alight - and they've not returned to the Championship just yet, several years on.
Simi Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 We're all going on a League 1 tour, you what? A League 1 tour. We're not (hopefully), but I'm just playing devils advocate.

Stevosevic Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Let's think about it, would it really be that bad to lose our proud record and drop down to League One? There's lots of reasons it wouldn't be too bad... - We could visit lots of old style stadiums in run down Northern towns - perfect for creating an atmosphere - We may actually win games (s**t, didn't we say that when we were relegated from the Premiership? ) - It would give us a chance to rebuild and bounce straight back like Forest Don't be silly, its vital we stay in this division, i actually think we are in a worse position than last year when i look at the away games to come. We need to get behind the lads, we can't afford to have dire atmospheres like Saturday because fans are thinking we are too good to go down, they need to realise the seriousness of the situation. Let's get behind the lads, hope the players start to care, find some passion and keep us up, allowing MM to sort out this mess in the summer!
FleckneyFox Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Of course we need to stay in this division if we were relegated it could be years until we get anywhere near the premiership if we stay up this season strengthen the squad further and then we can kick on. Ollies looking to bring in new faces now because hes already said he looking to bring in certain people on loan. imagine how our team would look if we got relegated. Henderson Maybury N'Gotty McAuley Shee'han Gradel Kishishev Wesolowski Porter Campbell Hayles Logan Clapham A.King Hayes A.Chambers WE SIMPLY CANNOT GO DOWN

Moreton Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Leicester City are once again in a relegation dog fight, people are talking about life in League 1 being a positive thing, something that can benefit us, but am i the only one who cares about Leicester being in a club, of eight other clubs who have never been in the 3rd tier of English Football? The fact that people are willing to give this up to try and get success is a very sad thing to think about.
Leicester Lass Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Correction - we're not being dragged into a relegation fight, we're putting ourselves into one.
Babylon Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Leicester City are being dragged into a relegation dog fight We have been in one the last 4 years. Even though we have lost our last two games, we are only one point closer to the drop zone. We are still 4 points clear (taking into account goal difference).
Stevosevic Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Can we just rebuild in this division please? Yes of course we can, i was giving examples of silly reasons people give when saying relegation wouldn't be too bad, the club needs us more than ever over the next 15 games.
Moreton Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Its more about people are willing for us to get relegated and be like Leeds and Nottingham Forest they we one of the clubs who had never been in League 1 before and now look at them, poor, Underacheiving (Not that Leicester are but they could do better to stay up)

Sometimes you just have to prepare for the worst sometimes, and it is a very realistic possibility.
