FleckneyFox Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 I think he could be the difference between going down and staying up his ability to come and collect crosses for a keeper of his level is frightening. Also his distribution is pretty poor. i miss Marton Thoughts?
Bert Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Two games in a row, he's made a blinding save, but made a fook up in the game. I think he's decent though.

Finnegan Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Put it this way - he should have saved both of our last two losing goals. But at the end of the day, if you can't score you don't win games.
FleckneyFox Posted 13 February 2008 Author Posted 13 February 2008 Has he done this often then? I thought up until tonight his punching/catching has been fairly solid. I cant remember seeing him catch a ball since he got here. always seems to punch the ball out to the edge of the area very hesitantly. i wonder where we would be if Marton had been in goal for the last 6 games or so.

Probably 1 or 2 points better off at the very most, we're not scoring and this is a hell of a bigger problem than conceding an average of less than 1 goal a match..

Four goals conceded in six games. I bet Holloway wishes he was the worst of his worries.

You can't blame him for the results we've been getting. The only thing that worries me about him is his lack of variety in the distribution of the ball from the area and his inability to accurately kick the ball out whilst it is moving.

Perhaps you should read the post again. Alnwick's been one of our few shining lights recently. Stearman's been another.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty goalkeeper! Seriously though, would we even HAVE this thread if we could score a goal or two each match? Rather than saying we could have had 2 more points were it not for his errors, isn't it more valid that if we could score regularly we could have had 6 points more?

Alexikokopops Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 He made an exceptional save before the error. It reminded me of Fulop against Charlton
SamL Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Maybe Alnwick coming in has given Stearman a bit more confidence due to them being close friends. It seems a bit of a coincidence that when Alnwick comes in, Stearman starts to play better. Apart from the mistake that led to the goal, I thought Alnwick had a good game. A few very good saves and a couple of catches, apart from that didn't have a lot to do.
Lester LXXIV Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Unfortunately when a team is not scoring, it highlights the goals that are conceded, it's not Alnwick's fault, it's the lack of goals which then make him look worse when we lose 1-0! I know what I mean!

He won't be the difference, if we don't score goals then we are doomed

A few very good saves and a couple of catches, apart from that didn't have a lot to do. That may be a factor but the main thing is his not having to serve the entire right flank as a wing back, effectvely trying to cope with two positions. It was a mammoth task in such a poor team.
wirralsimon Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Alnwick is not the problem. If we could hit a cows *rse with a banjo at the other end of the pitch we wouldn't be having this discussion. Simon
filbertway Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Has he done this often then? I thought up until tonight his punching/catching has been fairly solid. I dno about the other games but at Blackpool I thought he looked shakey from crosses, but at least he can punch it unlike hendo.
