I'm 17 next month, just picked up a leaflet for MINT driving school - discounts for NUS students and block booking, first lesson free.

Anyone been with them?

And anyone recommend one? I live in Ashby

I had 4 hours in London a few weeks ago, went pretty well, I was driving around Islington for pretty much all of it. on the main roads for most of the time and went round the emirates too :D. Now I'm looking to do as many lessons as I can there when I go back in July and hopefully get my test out the way in the summer.

I tend to find in terms of things like this Driving Instructors, Plumbers, Electricians and any form of work where you offer a service that those who need to advertise and not always the best.

A good plumber will never need to advertise his work word of mouth and recommendations normally means they are never short of work and neither should a driving instructor!!

your best bet is to speak to people you know who have already done their test and you will find an excellent instructor that way

It's hard to pick yourself up after failing. Big time.

but the feeling of when you actually pass is worth waiting for!!

It is something like that, not sure where he's got £175 from.

You'll pass your theory, anybody who doesn't is a moron.

It's £106 for the car and test plus a few lessons in between.

Luckily since that post i phoned up the auto system booking thing and managed to get lucky as there was a cancellation so got 2nd one in a couple of weeks now.

I did ring up the number over and over again though lol

Not worthy of it's own thread so I'll just stick it in here...

I'm presuming in September we will get the '59' plates but what happens next year? Is it just 10 instead of having two lots like we do at the minute?

I've wondered this also.

On the subject of cars one of my bosses has just pulled up in an 09 BMW M3 coupe, never looked round one properly before and it's fooking mint. Love these cars.

Still not sent my provisional off.
Well done you 3 who have passed

And just to add my usual post, still not sent off for my provisional yet.

Still not sent off for my provisional. :ermm:
This thread again?

Well guess what folks.

Guess what folks!

In other news, unlucky Dom, that's well harsh. :(

Quinn. Apparently.

Don't hold me to it though, i'm not very reliable.

Oh, and I still haven't sent off for my provisional yet, I know you're all wondering.

Oh, and i've still not sent off for my provisional :giggle:

It just doesn't get said enough.

We could yes, he'll be passed by my birthday. I'm sure of it.

What a call this was.

Depends on the area you live in really.

Don't go with the British School of Motoring (BSM), they're very expensive and take you through too slowly.

I'm with them. To be fair, it's usually £25 an hour, which is expensive. I get discounts though through where I work, so I'm getting £21.50 an hour on 10 hour block bookings. My instructor's brilliant, too.

I passed my theory on Tuesday! I was shitting it because I did absolutely no revision untill the day before when I read 11 sections of 14 in the bsm theory book with all the questions, answers, and explanations in them. Got 48/50, the two I got wrong were from the sections I didn't read! As for the hazard perception, I didn't revise for it, so I was shitting it. Scraped it. 51/75. On one of them I didn't get any points, and on the double hazard I only managed 4, so the rest of the clips must have saved me cos I really ****ed up on them.

Anyway, booked my test today. Should come through for the start of September. I've had 24 lessons, and I just need to be more aware of markings and stuff really. Not really sure what to expect on the test, slightly thinking i'll fail. No idea why. I can't really afford to, though. I've paid for all of my lessons, my theory, my materials, gonna pay for my practical, car, insurace, and tax. It's a piss take really, especially as a student. (hence why I opted to learn in the summer. Less hassle learning to drive whilst learning at school all week, and I can earn more by working more hours.)

Just need to find a cheapish car and insurance and pass now. Easy, right? :(

EDIT: Add petrol to the long list of things I'll have to pay for.

Failed my theory on Monday.

Piece of shit.

Unlucky. :(

My Son failed it yesterday........ hes devastated. Got 61 on the Hazards which you need 44 to pass (I think) but got 42 on the questions and needed 43. How fecking annoying to fail by 1 point!

They have really toughened it up now apparently? Im glad I dont have to take it lol
