General Smuts Posted 12 March 2008 Author Posted 12 March 2008 I got a Computer Science degree and I have to agree with that mate. I did the first two years with very minimal effort, for me I found the 3rd year very intense, the step up was massive so keep your head on and don't get too relaxed because you will need to work hard in the final year if you want a decent degree classification (which you'll need to be able to get a GOOD job). The market is saturated with IT students with degree's who are crap so unless you stand out from the crowd with a first class honours or at the least a 2:1 you won't be on anything more than £20k unless your incredibly lucky. I got lucky and now work for a massive well known IT firm on a fat wage but many of my mates are stuck in the £16k - 18k bracket and have been for 3 years. Sorry for the waffle mate, just thought i'd give you and anyone else in a similar situation a bit of advice You mean i have to start working for my degree next year

Mickyblueeyes Posted 13 March 2008 Posted 13 March 2008 You can do what I did and skive the entire year then spend 11 weeks in the library teaching yourself everything before your exams!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 March 2008 Posted 13 March 2008 Hoping to do an astrophysics degree at uni, but I am really into computers and stuff so that's why I'm taking that kinda stuff. Excellent choice. A proper degree ThanksNot sure what I want to do afterwards though Astrophysicist? I hear they're in high demand!
General Smuts Posted 13 March 2008 Author Posted 13 March 2008 You can do what I did and skive the entire year then spend 11 weeks in the library teaching yourself everything before your exams! You'll be welcomed with open arms onto my course
the_bowman Posted 13 March 2008 Posted 13 March 2008 Astrophysicist? I hear they're in high demand! Well I'm going on the basis that I'm good at physics, good at maths and love astrophysics. Then apparently you can get lots of jobs with a physics degree, so I'll decide what to do then.

ronnup Posted 13 March 2008 Posted 13 March 2008 Uni is a three year social holiday. Not a lot else for 90% of people. feels like you're setting yourself up for the future but any fooking nugget can get a degree in anything and employers don't give a fook.
Webbo Posted 13 March 2008 Posted 13 March 2008 How do you get rid of a physics graduate? Pay him for the pizza.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 March 2008 Posted 14 March 2008 You can do what I did and skive the entire year then spend 11 weeks in the library teaching yourself everything before your exams! I did that in my second year and spent five hellish weeks learning nine modules.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 14 March 2008 Posted 14 March 2008 I did that in my second year and spent five hellish weeks learning nine modules. I did it in my frst, second and third year! I ended up with a 2:1 as well university is all about self learning, I just took it to a extreme. All you got to remember if you do choose to do it you will be spending alot of time in the library at one go....but then you have 9 months of doing fook all....except the odd coursework here and there!!! Ahhh...to be back at uni and waking up on a monday morning only to turn over and say fook it im going back to bed!!!
Raj Posted 14 March 2008 Posted 14 March 2008 You say that, but Virgin Media are giving me £3750 for expenses during my three months of dissertation writing It all works out in the end. OI! Im still waiting for my Virgin Medai package(FREE!) and a phone off your sister(also FREE!) Where are they?????
danny. Posted 14 March 2008 Posted 14 March 2008 Uni is a joke, I barely went to any lectures in the second year, probably 2-3 per module in the last year, I just bought the 'official course notes' from the lecturer at the end of the module, memorised/learnt them the day or 2 before the exam (night before always an allnighter), sit the exam, repeat. Got a 1st in the end..
