Bryn Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 battle relegation all season then stay up, or sit midtable all season? Not really related to our position, purely a hypothetical question. Provided we stay up I can imagine some people saying a relegation battle is more interesting than midtable obscurity all season long. But I think more people would appreciate the security of the midtable.
Moreton Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 obviously Mid-Table all season. That would have been an improvement on last season. Who would want another Relegation fight?
Benjani Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 This is ridiculous! Mid table all the way, who says we wouldn't play amazing all season, but be unlucky e.g. letting in late goals and not scoring enough.
Webbo Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 The way this division is, any midtable side that can string 3 wins together can move into the playoffs.
lookwhaticando Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 Relegation battles can be immensely involving... so long as it's not your own team that's in one. I'll never forget the Premier League 04/05 season when Norwich, West Brom, Southampton and Crystal Palace fought it out to the death. Immense. It's not for us, though, I'd much rather a bit of stability... mid-table, the hallmark of mediocrity, is at least a more positive position - being in a position to build on something, rather than scrape things together and rely solely on fighting merely for survival.
Eastern Fox Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 What kind of silly question is that? Who would prefer to be at the bottom of the table with a chance of relegation than the middle with a chance of the play-offs.

Provided we stay up I can imagine some people saying a relegation battle is more interesting than midtable obscurity all season long. But I think more people would appreciate the security of the midtable. I'd take the relegation battle. Providing we stay up obviously. So much more exciting, emotional and you tend to get better atmospheres at the games as well. The goals meant so much yesterday. The celebrations were completly mental, brilliant. I have nothing but great memories of yesterday & I think it wouldn't have been the same if we weren't in the shit, so to speak.
Finnegan Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I appreciate a relegation battle can be exciting, but no thanks, I've had enough.
SystonFox Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 being mid table all season means we would have turned some of those Draws into wins, and maybe some losses into draws thus earning more points to be mid table and thus the fans being happier. if we survive this relegation fight i dont want another one unless its our first season back in the prem!!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Definitely relegation battle and stay up. Football fans are never happy. If we had been in mid-table all season our fans would have been on the manager's back as to why we weren't pushing for the play-offs. People would be moaning how inconsistent we were. Football never ends. By finishing 12th we wouldn't have a headstart next season as opposed to if we finished 21st. At least with a relegation battle you get that fierce, desperate feeling every Saturday at 2.59pm when you know your team needs three points so desperately. Mid-table can make you complacent - just remember the O'Neill years, our glory years yet people were still frustrated we couldn't push on and finish higher or progress further in the FA Cup - but you don't get games like the Birmingham game last season when you're mid-table. In my opinion, if we're going to stay up this season then we're going to have to either win away at Sheffield United or Barnsley or it will go to the wire at home to Sheffield Wednesday and football fans should relish occasions like any of those - days like yesterday when an unexpected triumph means everything.

I knew there'd be people out there with that opinion. Silly question my arse.
lildave3 Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 As long as we stay up then a relegation battle. It seems to create more of an atmosphere than if you had nothing to play for for the last 15 games. Also, it feels so much better when you get wins like yesterday and Cardiff.
Joe. Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Pfft mid-table would please me nicely. Plenty more wins than in a shitty relegation battle.
Matt Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I said at the start of the season I wanted improvement, Improvement in my eyes was mid-table, Seeing as this league is quite big mid-table is a big majority of the league, I expected and wanted high mid-table, somewhere between 11th - 14th, So if we did finish mid-table my objectives and expectations would be fine. As for the question successful relegation battle or mid-table, No-one wants the worry, disappointment, stress of a relegation battle successful or not, Mid-table wins every time. What a stupid question, Perhaps the feeling of happiness and proudness (in a weird way...Proud your teams avoided relegation...How's that work) is good after a successful relegation battle but i'd rather not.
DB11 Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Relegation battle if we stay up. If there is any slight chance we could go down then mid table
C-man Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Probably mid-table, I don't think I could cope with any more seasons that are as stressful as this one.
James. Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Interesting question. There's something a little sadistic about wanting a "successful" relegation battle over the safety of mid table but then supporting a football club is about emotions and the sheer variety and extreme of emotions that a relegation battle generates makes you feel alive as a football fan. And that's not just when you actually go to a game, it's when you're sitting at your desk in mid week getting that weird kick out of worrying where the points are going to come from. However I'm at the point where I want to see progress and success at Leicester City and finishing just above the relegation zone is in no way a successful season. A mid table finish for this club WOULD signify progress though and right now that's what I want more than anything else.
Koke Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I can't handle any more relegation battles. I don't know how you guys can. The stress level is too much.
Sods Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Relegaion Battle. All about exicitement and experiances Football is. Even if we did go down, i will still be there. It will happen one day it still might happen this season.
accessory Posted 20 March 2008 Posted 20 March 2008 Who could vote for a relegation battle? Especially in a league as crap as this? Yes there have been some high points this season, including the win last Saturday. But there have also been plenty of lows, particularly at home. I wouldn't want another season like this one.
Finnegan Posted 20 March 2008 Posted 20 March 2008 The problem with Fez's answer are the words"and stay up." Sure in a perfect world I'd take the excitement of a relegation battle over mid-table mediocrity.. but only if we stayed up. I really, really, really dread the prospect of going down. And granted it's that feeling that makes the battle so exciting, but I don't trust this club to keep clawing out of the dirt. I'm sorry. Besides. Think about it from a wider perspective, mid table battle generally means you won more games. This, generally, means you left the Walkers on fewer Saturdays feeling angry, disappointed, bitter, betrayed and destroyed. I'd fucking take that, thankyou very much.

The question does say "Sucsessfull Relegation battle" though. Obv, if I knew we were going to go down I'd choose the mid-table boring season but sucessfull relegation battles are so much more exciting.
Koke Posted 20 March 2008 Posted 20 March 2008 Successful or not, how can you lot even want a relegation dog fight? Give me a safe mid table position, with some good football.
