Bert Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Out-of-favour goalkeeper Jens Lehmann claims he could have prevented Arsenal going out of the Champions League - if only he had been given the chance. In German magazine Kicker, Lehmann, 38, hit out at manager Arsene Wenger and first-choice keeper Manuel Almunia, 30, after the defeat by Liverpool. "For me it is a tragedy since I did not have a chance to prevent it," he said. "I stayed here to win the competition and saw good chances to play but I've not had them. It makes me very angry." During the Bundesliga's winter break, the German number one rejected a return to Borussia Dortmund in an effort to regain his starting place with the Gunners. But this has not happened and Lehmann is concerned that a lack of first-team action could cost him any chance of playing at Euro 2008. "To be sitting on the bench behind somebody who only started to play when he was 30 is not funny," he added. "I am very angry." He also laid into Wenger over his handling of the situation. "If the coach had spoken to me before the start of the season then I would have been able to decide if I wanted to sit on the bench," he stated. "He has a different opinion and I don't really believe he can be happy with it What a plank.
SamL Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 What a plank. Arrogant Koont, bit of a harsh comment wasn't it? I really don't rate Lehmann. Can't see him staying there for much longer.
Maybes Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Lehmann really is a character. He will be gone in the summer with outbursts like this, Wenger will not stand for it. I would imagine he will go to some second rate german team.

Maybes Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Weren't Borussia Dortmund in for him a while back? I could see him going to them in the summer at a cut price. Yeah I think so. To be honest, he more trouble than he's worth.
Fat Ron Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 "To be sitting on the bench behind somebody who only started to play when he was 30 is not funny," he added. "I am very angry." I find that exceptionally hard to believe Or was it just a grumpy old Germans way of having a dig
Dr The Singh Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 I find that exceptionally hard to believe Or was it just a grumpy old Germans way of having a dig Sour grapes maybe but if I were in his shoes I would be thinking the same thing, but making it public will have sealed his exit!!!
purpleronnie Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 I like it, I wish more footballers spoke their minds.
filbertway Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 I like it, I wish more footballers spoke their minds. Even if they sound like jealous mardy idiots?
The Reverend Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 I find that exceptionally hard to believe Or was it just a grumpy old Germans way of having a dig I think he means Almunia started playing at a decent level when he was 30. Though he is still talking bollocks.
Joe. Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Lehmann's a total willy puller and always has been since he came to Arsenal. Those comments about Almunia are so disrespectful, he's blatantly just sour because he's keeping him out of the first team.
lildave3 Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Such a tosser, disliked him ever since he came to Arsenal.
DB11 Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 If he wasn't German I might possibly have had some sympathy for him
Father Ted Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 What a plank. Coming from a 38 year old. Is that not the magazine Andy reads?
Father Ted Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Weren't Borussia Dortmund in for him a while back? I could see him going to them in the summer at a cut price. I honestly don't think there would be many teams to interested. He will be retiring soon. And couldn't have Oliver Kahn said the same thing about him starting an international career at 37
shen Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Lehmann's a total willy puller and always has been since he came to Arsenal. Those comments about Almunia are so disrespectful, he's blatantly just sour because he's keeping him out of the first team. He's always been a willy puller. I remember him getting sent off at Borussia Dortmund for assaulting his own team-mate Marcio Amoroso. And I think he holds the record for most sendings off for a keeper in Germany. His disrespect of Kahn is also well-documented...
Jack Posted 10 April 2008 Posted 10 April 2008 Lehmann is a twat. Almunia deserves to be first choice, he has had a very good season.
lildave3 Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 get ready for a giggle then - he's starting!! Almunia is injured. Apparently.
