Benji Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 Ok so it is hard to be positive at the moment But nothing we do will change what has just happened, so i'd like to take one positive out of today and say i thought the youngster played very efficiently and calmly, didn't put a foot wrong and did what he was asked to do. Definitely could be an acquisition for league 1, i thought he looked good enough for a proper crack at championship level... Constructive thoughts anyone? has he performed well in reserve/youth games?

Constructive thoughts anyone? has he performed well in reserve/youth games? Out of his depth today, the game just past him by i'm afriad!! On numerious occassions he was beaten for pace, his passing range and movement were limitrd. He's a young lad and the game was too big for him!!
Bryn Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 Meh. He wasn't really in the game. He didn't do anything wrong which is something but he didn't particularly impress me.

FleckneyFox Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 He may not stay here yet hes only on loan and Preston wanted him so he might leave us yet. But for a centre half playing centre mid on his full debut in that kind of situation he was impressive
lildave3 Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 At least he looked to pass it. Crunching tabkle in the first half too, loved it.

dandannieldanok Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 It was a ridiculous decision to play him today even though he did ok, huge sign of desperation.
SamL Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 Hes signed a pre-contract hasnt he? Aye, thats what I thought. I thought he played well, although he really shouldn't have played at all. People have said he hasn't been up to scratch for the reserves so shouldn't be anywhere near the first team. A decent full debut though, fair play to the lad.
Koke Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 At least he looked to pass it.Crunching tabkle in the first half too, loved it. Yeah, he could pass the ball, unlike our other centre halves. And some crunching tackles too. For a CB making his debut in midfield, I thought he didn't too bad.
dave_the_fox Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 How come Weso didnt play in that role? don't understand it really
Basingstoke Fox Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 He looked decent to me on sky Bought in as cover for the defense and he did a good job.
Tevez Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 Worley was 'sick' today I thought. Can't wait to see more of him next season.
Guest Posted 4 May 2008 Posted 4 May 2008 How come Weso didnt play in that role? don't understand it really I wondered that too. Especially given the importance of the game, and the fact that Weso has a history with the club, and the fact that he's put in some good performances when available, it seemed like a very random selection. But I do think Worley could be a good player and hopefully he'll get some games next season

Southern Fox Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 He was chosen instead of Weso in my opinion due to Stoke's aerial height and to thwart attacks from throw-ins, corners and set pieces. With Kisnorbo out - it just added another big lad to mark one of theirs. I agree though, the game did pass him by, but to play out of your position - on your debut I thought the lad did okay
davieG Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 Why was he playing midfield, Ok not his fault when we had King available a much more accomplished player. As for his performance from the TV it looked like he didn't touch the ball more than 3/4 times and then only when he was acting as an extra CB. After seeing his two recent reserve games I was completely shocked to not only see him in the team but in midfield WTF. For me it was the final nail in the coffin for any chance I had of wanting Holloway to stay and sum up his negativety. I also thought he was pretty slow certainly Stearman overtook him to take the ball off one their players. For CB he does have a decent touch but doesn't seem to use his body strength. Even now, despite people's misgivings about his strength I'd sooner have Stearman at CB.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 It's fairly obvious he was in there to combat Stoke's aerial threat - playing him in midfield wasn't much different to when N'Gotty has played there before. He marked Sidibe at all the set pieces and did a really good job. I was more concerned with the fact Steve Howard seemed to be playing in midfield. I think it summed up this season that before the game me and Kilworth were assuming King and Weso would be in central midfield cos we thought Oakley was out. In the end, neither of them even got on the pitch and we got what we deserved for it. I just pray the new manager places more faith in our youngsters cos the only things that gave me any sort of hope yesterday were the performances of Stearman and Mattock.

Maybes Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 I thought it was real strange playing him from the start, however I was impressed with his performance. Should be good enough for league one.

Constructive thoughts anyone? has he performed well in reserve/youth games? He didn't look anything special and I was amazed at his inclusion. He didn't wan't the ball and when he got it he passed it 5 yards from him. Odd choice IMO, where was Weso? Injured?

Which I understand but it was such a negative appoach, why can't we set ourselves out so that people start worrying about us, It's Kelly all over again. As you say King and Weso would have given them something to think about and I'm sure King, with his height is capable of acting as an extra defender when needed but there was no way Worley was going to act as creator and with Oakley giving his usual out of sorts performance we were dead and buried, if a win was needed from the KO. As for the so called strike force - Ha!!!! Holloway = Capitulation
Uncle Albert Posted 5 May 2008 Posted 5 May 2008 For saying that was his first league start I think he played bloody well, especially in the situation the team was in. He kept Delap and the other one very quiet and was solid tackling on the floor and challenging the high ball, got a bright future and hopefully his future is with us.
