Simon Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 If they're that highly rated and wanted that much then make the bastards outbid each other for them- £2.5m is peanuts for the both of them IMO I'd want at least £4m or 5m.
Jonezy Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Time for MM to show some guts, and wait for the right price even if Mattock and Stearz wants to get away. Even though we are a League One club now, we shouldn't lower the prices of our biggest assets and talents.
dandannieldanok Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 I wouldn't be at all disappointed with £2.5million combined for both. Mattock is too young and hasn't had a great deal of first team action to be quoted at the price some people want. I wouldn't even say he's been that good for us anyway and England u-21 caps mean very little when you look at the bigger picture and some of the shitters that have manged to bag one in their past. As for Stearman, people seem to have very short memories. He was getting rightly slagged off for a bunch of half-arsed performances before christmas, and yes he has vastly improved but hardly the consistency to warrant millions. Don't get me wrong I like Stearman and Mattock and think their decent players, I'm just saying that some people have set their hopes to high IMO. We know it's an inflated market (Crouch being quoted a ridiculous £15m just today being a good example) but were not in a position to haggle really, despite the financial backing of Mandaric.
reynard Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Let's not forget gareth Bale went to spurs for 10million. mattock must be worth at least 25% of that.
Flynny Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Yeah 5 million for the pair is about right. Any less is a steal.
Naboo Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 West Ham have been linked with Mattock again recently, and that DannyHaynes from Ipswich. Joe may see a move to the hammers to be of good use especially with the way they breed the young players down at Upton Park.

Theres no questioning Mattock and Stearman's value but our relegation would surely mean that any interested party wouldn't have to offer as much as if we were in the CCC?
RizLCFC Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Is that why he was probably the second most successful manager in our history! I know he was a good manager for us and I respect him for that it's just that planning on signing both Stearman and Mattock for a combined fee of 2.5million is bloody buying them at half price, just because we are a League ! club we shouldn't have to flog our players off for cheap buys, fair enough, If clubs want our players make them pay enough for them so it's beneficial to us aswell, If they don't want to fork out for them we're happy to keep them here. I read McAuley is being lined up as a £600,000 switch to Ipswich in the next few weeks, that's absolute garbage, he's 2/3 million in my opinion, we can't let these clubs steal our players that was my point, maybe I was wrong for calling O'Neill a twat and I apologise for that, I was just soo annoyed at these undervalued bids being quoted.

I accept that, but this is all just paper talk. I would be VERY VERY VERY dissapointed if the three: Mattock, Stearman and Mcauley went because people will just not understand how we will miss these three, the last two especially!

If you meant 2-3 million then you're in cloud cookoo land
Shrenchel Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 This is definitely a fantastic plan. Let's get rid of all the players from the only part of team that can actually play football. We'll be back in no time.
Linekaaaah Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 This is definitely a fantastic plan. Let's get rid of all the players from the only part of team that can actually play football. We'll be back in no time. Spot on. Our defensive record speaks for itself. Still, on that basis it's understandible that if anybody is gonna plunder our squad, they'll go for the defenders. Don't agree with the price though, and tbh i'd rather whoever takes over from Ollie pulled out all the stops to keep them here.
Simon Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Theres no questioning Mattock and Stearman's value but our relegation would surely mean that any interested party wouldn't have to offer as much as if we were in the CCC? Why? They're under contract. If clubs want them that much then they can pay out. At LEAST £4m plus add ons or no deal IMO.
Tilley Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 After talking to an ex-City academy player who is still close to Stearman, he wants out. So let him go.
sdb Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 After talking to an ex-City academy player who is still close to Stearman, he wants out. So let him go. so he obviously didn't care as much as he liked to make out - if true

Although they're highly rated, they were part of a relegated squad, which they'd no doubt want to leave to further their careers. IMO I'd want at least £4 million also but the loss of income into the club may force Mandaric to make a quick buck.
MikeyT Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 After talking to an ex-City academy player who is still close to Stearman, he wants out. So let him go.
Joinesy77 Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 If Mandaric puts his money where his mouth is we dont need to sell our best players. Mattock and Stearman 2 of our best and they actually love the club, which is more than I can say for most players. Only sell if its a ridiculously inflated price, £10-15m
breadandcheese Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Why the bad feeling if Stearman wants away? It's completely understandable. At this stage in his development, he needs to be progressing up the chain if he ever wants to make it and establish himself as a Premier League player. It's not about any bad feeling towards Leicester City, nor being fake in his desire to see the club succeed, it is about his ambition to play at the highest level. Does he bear any responsibility for the clubs relegation to league 1? Not in my opinion. Him and the rest of the defence did exactly what was required of them throughout the season. We had one of the best defences in the league, certainly not the defence of a relegated team. So I would not begrudge him or any of our other defenders if they wanted to move on.
Phil Bert Fox Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Mattock to Newcastle. According to someone very close to him, 5 Mill was quoted!!
Eastern Fox Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 After talking to an ex-City academy player who is still close to Stearman, he wants out. So let him go. Be realistic, twenty year old footballers with talent have a right to pursue their careers. As much as would like him to stay, I can't fault him for wanting to leave.
clazkel Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 I really hope they both stay, but i can't see it being very likely. If they go to a premiership team i don't think they will get regular first team football which is what they need, so they may be better going to a good championship team where there is a good chance they will get first team football on a regular basis. I believe they are more than capable of doing well in a premiership team but they need first team football. Mattock and Stearman along with Hume and Fryatt are the main players i want to stay more than any other players! I don't blame them if they want to go but i will be gutted if Stearman goes as he has showed more passion than any other player over the last season and i thought he would want to help us get out of this mess. I thought he was Leicester through and through, but i understand why he would want to leave.
