davieG Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Villa plan double-raid on Leicester tribalfooball.com - May 08, 2008 Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is set to raid old club Leicester City. The Mirror says O'Neill has lined up a £2.5million raid on his old club Leicester for youngsters Joe Mattock and Richard Stearman. Defender Mattock, 17, was the subject of a failed £1m bid from West Ham in January and has been watched by Aston Villa boss O'Neill this season. And the Foxes' player of the year Stearman, 20, is another target - with Sunderland and Spurs also keen on the defender. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=91820

Thracian Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Surely they're worth more than that. Too damn right they are.
Guest ttfn Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Lazy journalism. We turned down money for Stearman from Spurs and Sunderland 2 years ago and Villa have been long linked.
Ric Flair Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 They are worth more than that, but we are now in League One and O'Neill doesn't like paying over the odds either.
Bally Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 They are worth more than that, but we are now in League One and O'Neill doesn't like paying over the odds either. Agree. Nothing in local press though as yet. Also heard Stewart linked to Derby yesterday
The People's Hero Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 So this is where I left my cup of tea. And it's cold now. Fu ck sake.
FleckneyFox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Yeah i could see 'sticks' at Spurs, that would be awesome
lookwhaticando Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Yeah i could see 'sticks' at Spurs, that would be awesome I'd be fooking gutted if he went there. Aston Villa is bad enough, but Tottenham... jesus christ.
Father Ted Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 £2.5 million, is that it! Gareth Bale was worth something like £7mil so why isn't Mattock worth the same Just because Wales have no left-backs and so that's why Bale is playing but so would Mattock if he was Welsh! And Stearman should be worth around £5mil minimum.
Mark Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Mattock going Wigan Mattock wigan Wigan would be a bad move for an England U21 international, he can do much better and so can we it's ridiculous money again. We may be league one now but our defence record speaks for itself, Stearman and Mattock are good players.
RizLCFC Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Martin O'Neill is a ****, he promised us Isaiah Osbourne and didn't deliver and now he wants to raid our upcoming stars when we are in League 1 and we would love to clearly keep hold of them, if the players came out and openly said they would want to leave that would be a different matter.

Is that why he was probably the second most successful manager in our history!

You twat. He's got every right to want our players, he's manager of Aston Villa, not Leicester City anymore. As for the Osbourne business, he didn't have much choice with the injuries he had at Villa.

lildave3 Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Yeah i could see 'sticks' at Spurs, that would be awesome Can't see that myself tbh, what with Chris Gunter there. Not to mention Hutton and Chimbonda. £2.5 million, is that it! wurmer Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Sky Sports are reporting this too... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_3537696,00.html
thecannon Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 I dont think these players are Villa material. I think they might be premier league material. But they are definately for good championship level!
Maybes Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 I would be wanting at least 2.5million a peice. Would be very disappointed if we sold them.
davieG Posted 8 May 2008 Author Posted 8 May 2008 I dont think these players are Villa material. I think they might be premier league material. But they are definately for good championship level! Premier clubs don't buy players like Mattock to play them, they buy them on the off chance they might turn out good, get them young, get them cheap, if it doesn't work out sell them to Championship team. A low risk strategy.
Daggers Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Where they go is irrelevant because we know they will leave us this summer.
ronnup Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Where they go is irrelevant because we know they will leave us this summer. I'm not so sure. I reckon stears may stay, joe's different with his England career.
