Vardinhio Posted 5 June 2008 Posted 5 June 2008 Yeh I take your points, It's imperative that we do have some younger players in our ide, ideally home grown ones. But look at Stearman for example, ok so he's had a decent season but he's been around for a while now, infact isn't he our longest serving player? I would expect that after so many first team games he is being noticed, especially when theres no real competiton for that right back spot. Whilst it's important to have a grasp of the future a hold on today will always be more important. If selling Stearman and Mattock means we can build a competant squad I'd much prefer that to obsessing over one or two England youth players. Remember, even James Scowcroft has an England U21 cap to his name, it doesn't mean your're the next big thing..
teblin Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 DAILY EXPRESS Liverpool and Everton both want to sign highly-rated Leicester defender Joe Mattock.
MikeyT Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 DAILY EXPRESS Liverpool and Everton both want to sign highly-rated Leicester defender Joe Mattock. So we are soon to have no defence! Stearman will probably leave as well. We will have no defence soon, except for N'gotty, Worley and an injured Kisnorbo who once fit again, is bound to leave in January!

It might not be such a bad thing, I wouldn't mind the club getting ridd of alot of the 'rott' and building the foundations again. Unfortunately though we will also lose alot of the good'ens aswell!!!
Ric Flair Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 DAILY EXPRESS Liverpool and Everton both want to sign highly-rated Leicester defender Joe Mattock. £5 million and they can have him.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 £5 million and they can have him. If I were Joe I wouldnt join any of the top 4 in the Prem. I'd be looking at joining a mid table team were I'd be respected and would get games and experience, Everton might be a good move....
Mark Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 havent they got leighton baines though? Yes and even he's been mainly a bench warmer for them. He's too young for Premier league football at any club, give it a year or two Joe.
Ashley Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 havent they got leighton baines though? Yes they have Joelen Lescott can also play left back.
Jack Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Liverpool are set to sell Riise for 5mil, it's so that they have money to buy Mattock.
Jack Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Liverpool are set to sell Riise for 5mil, it's so that they have money to buy Mattock. In fact they have sold him now for 4 mil, this Mattock move looks a dead cert now
Noel Edmonds Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 No, I heard Barca are selling Deco and Ronaldinho just to raise the funds for Mattock.
Kilworthfox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 TBH both Mattock and Stearman deserve moves, especially Stearman. He is our current longest serving player AFAIK. Stearman has given everything but was let down by everyone else around him. As a local boy it would be nice to see him strut his stuff in front of a bigger more challenging environment. He also needs guidance from better players which face it, isn't going to happen at city for atleast 2 or 3 more seasons. Classic material Get down Jongulars and earn yourself some money! You deserve it
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 According to www.newsnow.co.uk Both the merseyside clubs are slugging it out to sign Mattock
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 According to 3mobile news Everton are preparing a £1 million bid for Mattock. Benitez also keeping tabs on the situation as he looks for Riises replacement. £1 million..... Try again Moysey

Try again Moysey If there are add ons for games played, England caps or a percentage of the sell on, then £1million isn't too far away.
Thracian Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 Mattock should stay here and continue learning his trade. He'd have no chance of playing for a top end Premiership side for a while yet and would only be loaned out to someone like us for experience. Worse still he could end up forgotten which is not likely to happen here. He has a potentially excellent opportunity of teaming up with Sheehan on the left in a team which could well be an extension of the side which won the youth cup. With Porter/Beswick in front of them we'd have a potentially excellent and entirely versatile left-flank. Everyone involved could have an outstanding season with the right encouragement and if they were all kept properly fit. If we were promoted the whole group could move upwards nd would then be at their best age for challenging towards a Premiership place. Would Mattock's scenario really be more exciting elsewhere? I'd doubt it.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 My only worry for Mattock if he did leave would be that he end up in a Chris Gunter situation. Whatever happened to him when he left Cardiff for Tottenham?

I'd doubt it. I agree that he shouldn't go to a Premiership club but get some experience first. I'm not so sure about Sheehan but Beswick sounds a better option but I don't see Beswick gaining a proper starting place yet. I would like to see a Gradel/Bell wing partnership.
