catfordfox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 here y'are http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/05/..._been_a_lo.html
josh_baskin Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Im glad ive finally seen it all put into words, ends on a real high too dosnt it!
dandannieldanok Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 That's very good because it's brutally honest. As we all know, nothing is good about this club except for the loyal fans than turn up in their droves every week.
foxad Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Holloway talks a good game and is always quick with a quip and a BBC column, but this is a football club, not a comedy stage. What was needed was authority and tactical savvy, not winks and witticisms. The post-relegation interviews saw the usual apologetic platitudes trotted out, near offensive in their banality. this is exactly why holloway made me livid
MikeyT Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Good bit of journalism there. Straight to the point and couldnt agree more.
catfordfox Posted 8 May 2008 Author Posted 8 May 2008 Are you the writer catfordfox? yeah - sorry for the self promotion!
hairy Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 yeah - sorry for the self promotion! No need to be sorry. I like it. Good article summing up the main points since our fall from grace.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times the national press have printed stories (in whatever guise) that accurately sum up how it feels to be a Leicester City fan. That's one of them. I read the Guardian blogs as much as I can, mainly to keep up to date with foreign football, and I've often thought this past season there should be more Championship coverage. Now I suppose it would just be plain old "lower league" coverage. Congratulations, superb article. Have you had any other stuff on LCFC published in the nationals in the past? Would love to read them.
coale39 Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 What a depressing but brilliant article. Exactly my thoughts.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Just another rant given a higher platform. Eloquently put, given, but shedding no more light than any other FTer has done here. I'm in a meh mood today.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 A good piece, and no surprise the Guardian published it - they have loads of good footie articles (check the article on my signature and have a read if you've not seen it before). If I ever come across as a bit blase about the whole relegation business it's because the pessimist in me always expected a massive fall from grace. During the O'Neill years I was always pinching myself because it was so blooming BRILLIANT, particularly bearing in mind I started taking a real interest in City during the Pleat era. I always had a nagging doubt at the back of my mind that it wouldn't last and I should enjoy it while I could, which I certainly did. The spirit of the club has steadily eroded since that bloody Wycombe game which for me marked the end of the era of City actually being anything to get excited about, the final nail in the coffin after the departure of O'Neill, Heskey and Lennon and the inevitability of Collymore going off in a huff. How do we get it back? I wish I knew
Corky Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Have you read some of the comments? "Tigers will always be bigger than City". Egg-chasing tosser And some Tigers fans I've spoken to wonder why we don't like them?
Guest Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 Well written piece, enjoyed that Pity that some sad act of a tigers fan had to stick the boot in on the comments section
GloverFox Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 ... saddening and gut-wrenching to read, but the truth is there ... the standard of football was poor, the managers response was poor and the Club is where it deserves to be! .... So now the painful truth for the Club .. support the Chairman, put in place a 'man-motivator' manager (as opposed to a West Country comic) and start to make the players earn their 'well-paid' keep (.. shit, as a time served engineer I'm working harder than any of 'em and for a mere fraction of the dosh!) And the painful truth for us fans ... League 1 is a tough environment, the players tend to be younger and keen to prove a point. Yes, Leicester will be an 'F.A.Cup' game for all the 'smaller' clubs (but, remember we 'aint that big club anymore either ) ... and whilst it's going to hurt, the fans have got to prove we can do our end of the business by showing good support with humility and humour. Since moving South for work I've been priviledged to watch Yeovil Towns rise from non-league obscurity to their present L1 status (and whilst last season they were almost as shit as we were they are already shaking things up) ... at times it's been real hard coming back 'home' to watch City getting beaten again, so now the Club owe's a debt ... start playing football and winning
Fatbloke Posted 8 May 2008 Posted 8 May 2008 A quite superb article, acurate and definately gives you the impression the writer is a Leicester fan, Mandaric must go because with him at the helm, no matter who our manager was we will fail, he will not find another Harry Redknap, he could afford to tell MM what to go do with himself and is probably the only person that could, there are buyers in the wings so do the decent thing Milan and enjoy a long and comfortable retirement.

I fervently hope that what you suggest comes to pass. Especially if Martin George can be persuaded to be the buyer.
