Eastern Fox Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 The reason people like Hume is because he has been our top score for the last few seasons. Fans like to have someone to shout about, even if our squad is one of the worst the club has ever fielded. I don't understand why some people would like him out now: 11 goals for a team that only scored 42 goals in total and was relegated isn't bad. Why wouldn't he be a success in League 1? He's better than the mercenaries that Holloway brought in like Howard and Hayles: what have they done to be rated higher than Hume

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 Hume would be good in L1 i don't think anyone would want him to go.
Dr The Singh Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 It’s embarrassing how people have signalled out one of the worst players in our history as someone to continue to build a team around. Isn’t that what Martin Allen did last season? Yes. Look where we are. I’m sick of people going on about this mediocre/average player and talking him up as if he’s some kind of ‘legend’ it’s fcuking stupid. I bet it will be difficult to try and sell him to another championship club. Who the fcuk is going to want to buy any of this lot? I hope they get shipped out to league 2 teams, probably at level where they belong. If anyone thinks keeping Hume will improve our chances of promotion, well, they’re living in a dream world. Personally, I hope Ollie kicks him in the nuts and tells him to fcuk off. Yes, this is the stuff of kings!!!
The People's Hero Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 I'm sure we can get another little man with a chip on his shoulder who tries to do it all on his own.

But I'm not about to pretend he had a good season. Yeah fair enough, but he's had a better season than any of our other strikers that have been here for the whole season. I just don't get how people can say don't sack Holloway for stability, but then advocate selling every single player. We have to keep people that were reasonable last season if possible. I hope the club don't just get rid of someone that scored a quarter of our goals last season without thinking about realistic replacements.
Fox You Forest Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 I'm sure we can get another little man with a chip on his shoulder who tries to do it all on his own. I believe we already have one waiting and your in hiding from his legal team.

But I'm not about to pretend he had a good season. Who is pretending he's had a good season? Not me or Ric or anyone else that's attempted a reasonable defence of him. You and MF are over exagerrating how shit he is, as if his very presence is like a disease within the club and you also seem to be exagerrating how good people on the other side of the argument think he is. We know he's not amazing. We know he's had a shit season. We know he's not the answer to our problems. But we also know he can score goals, he works hard and he's a shitload better than some of the rubbish plying their trade in League 1. Personally I dont think he will stay. knowitall alluded to as much and he does know his stuff. And if he does leave while it isn't catastrophic, it IS a shame.

Ric Flair Posted 13 May 2008 Author Posted 13 May 2008 I don't care who replaces him, I'll say Ashley Chambers, Billy Kee, and Ricky Sappleton. There. Ric, come on now. Hume as shown he's not good enough. There is no point keeping any of the players we have. Every player who played in the last four games of the season should be told to leave. Hume has been part of this awful team for the entire period of the decline. The challenge for the club now is to go out and find these players we need to rebuild the team, we probably won’t have heard of half them. The days of transfer speculation of big name players is over. I can’t believe people don’t understand this. Hume isn’t good enough for us, he’s proven that. How any fan of Leicester can sit there after what’s happened and say they want to keep certain players from this current squad is absurd. The only way to move forward is to start from scratch. There are plenty of young players out there who would love opportunity to come and play for Leicester and prove themselves, and I can assure you they would do a million times better job than any of the current lot we’ve got now. You don't care who replaces him? So if we don't replace him with someone who will score us 15 goals a season then we could well be in even more shit than we already are. Teams in our state that go on to turn it around, don't get rid of every player. The mentality of the club changes and some of the players that were at the club during the under achievement do actually become part of the new successful era. I could list you hundreds of players where this has happened. The manager plays a massive part in changing that mentality, we have a manager who WILL NOT DO THAT HERE, new players or sticking with the same players. This is my point here, your reasons for Hume going is because he's part of the mess the club are in. But my argument is that he has proven that in amongst all of this garbage he has actually shown himself to have a modicum of talent and has scored a modest amount of goals given our demise, and his record for Tranmere in League One in his final season or so there was good as well. I want a fresh start for this club and I will not be overly bothered if 95% of the players here do leave, but i've watched football for long enough now to know that players like Iain Hume are good enough to be a seasoned Championship player, we need players of that ilk to get back there and then hopefully push on.
Simi Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 ***Looking forward to the response*** "He's shit and a ****. I'd rather have a fat bitch sit on me" In all seriousness, I do hope he stays. We demonstrated in the summer that you can't move up the leagues by replacing a whole team. It just doesn't work. By selling Hume and hoping to buy someone that will replicate his goal tally, will not be easy at all. If we'd of sold Hume in January and then people found out we were replacing him with Derby's top goal scorer from last season, Steve Howard. I'm sure a lot of people on here would have been ecstatic. A very good signing on paper, but it's not worked out on the pitch at the moment. What if that happens when we sell Hume? His replacment is dog shite. We're yet again back to sqaure 1 and not having a striker that can score goals for us. We have a lot more worries at the moment I think, that need to be addressed, than replacing our top scorer.

I don't think any of them leaving will be a shame.... The only instance where I can see an argument is for players like Mattock and Stearman where the fans feel more of a sentimental attachment as they've come through the youth system etc. In reality though, this club is bigger than any single player. Hume has hardly been exceptional and I don't see that his obvious shortcomings will be any better in league one when you consider that it's unlikely anyway that Holloway would play him!

My point exactly, Iain Hume has a bad season, played out of position in a shambles of a team and still scores 11 goals to add to the two decent seasons he had for us previously. Add to that the season he had at Tranmere before we bought him and you've got a very good player for this level and beyond. The reasons for Hume's poor season lie firmly at the feet of his manager.
The People's Hero Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 Right, I'm off to leave in a lighthouse with Bellend Sebastien and our labrador, Igor.
Ric Flair Posted 13 May 2008 Author Posted 13 May 2008 I don't think any of them leaving will be a shame....The only instance where I can see an argument is for players like Mattock and Stearman where the fans feel more of a sentimental attachment as they've come through the youth system etc. In reality though, this club is bigger than any single player. Mute points, but as i've said. His final season in League One before he came to us he scored 16 goals. He's improved as a player since then, as I have a mate whose a Tranmere fan and he has seen Hume since he's came to us and the improvement in his game is significant. Given the amount of goals he's scored for us at a higher level and the horrible environment we've been in as a club in the past 3 seasons, it all points favourably in Hume's direction. A competent manager would get 20 goals out of Hume next season and as everyone is craving stability, why replace a player we've had for 3 years who can do that.
The People's Hero Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 DJ Campbell will score more goals than Ian Hume next year.
Dr The Singh Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 DJ Campbell will score more goals than Ian Hume next year. He'll definitely score more, but goals.....it will be close!!!

I don’t understand why people are so protective of him? It’s like he’s their special little gem, the son or friend they never had. Seriously, I just think the team needs a new basis, fresh ideas, and to get rid of the players who’ve failed us and themselves. The whole mentality of the club is wrong. Not just the team but on evidence of this thread, the fans too. We need people to be putting in more than 15 goals next season for any hope of a return to the championship. The problem we’ve had is that Levein bought these players in when we weren’t doing so well in our first season. We could see things weren’t working and suddenly we add some new faces and brief signs of improvement appear. Everyone over reacted and thought we had some new kind of superstars on our hands. But what we’re stuck with is a situation whereby everybody seems reluctant to accept they’re wrong. A bit like the Fryatt situation. Look how right I was on that one. You’ve just got realise Hume’s future doesn’t, and shouldn’t belong at this club. Like i've said, the challenge is to find new players. Rebuild this club from the bottom up. Whatever it takes. Hume is not part of that in my eyes.
The People's Hero Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 Hume is definitely one of untouchables. I don't want to use Thracian's 'chosen men' term - but if we ever had one amongst the fans, it's him or possibly Fryatt.

I don't want to use Thracian's 'chosen men' term - but if we ever had one amongst the fans, it's him or possibly Fryatt. What else did you expect him to do this season? He has scored 11 goals, most from midfield in a dire team. For the 100th time, nobody is saying he's a world beater, but he's a good solid Championship player and is far better than anyone in L1. If a manager uses him the right way Hume can get you 15+ goals in the Championship, never mind League One. Getting rid of ALL the playing staff is not the way forward. We have a few half decent players and we need to retain those and get rid of the rest. I can guarantee you that if Hume leaves for a Championship side, he'll become a valuable addition to the squad he's joining. Again, the lad is not a world beater or anything, but he's a good player.
Ric Flair Posted 13 May 2008 Author Posted 13 May 2008 DJ Campbell will score more goals than Ian Hume next year. I'll take that bet up with you sir. Nothing fancy, just a pint of champagne to the winner. Now there is a crap striker.
Koke Posted 13 May 2008 Posted 13 May 2008 If DJ Campbell scores more goals (per game) than Ian Hume, then I'll donate £20 to a charity of your choice.
